-- at large of the national -- Jonah Goldberg he is also a Fox News contributor.

You probably saw the Washington Post that piece today that says Bob mr.

Obama plans to take any more combative approach.

On gun control and he's going to be going around the country.

Putting on sort of you know old town hall events kind of rallying the people to try to get this thing past you think it worked -- I'm pretty skeptical we saw in his inaugural also tried this too he said that he was is he -- the help of the people.

Serve he's backing community organizer Modi wants people to call in the congress.

Put pressure on congress.

Problem is is that he wanted to do this sort of thing a lot over his presidency and it's never worked.

I think the people in the White House -- live in a bubble about the president's own level persuasive power with the American people who do great job of getting out voters on Election Day.

But he gave over fifty speeches in 2009 about obamacare he never once move the needle public opinion on obamacare.

He never once persuaded people he's not a not nearly good salesman but people who already agree with them think he has.

Well we saw that especially in the early parts of his first term anytime he wanted to get some legislation pastor something he seemed to give a prime time speech.

But that didn't seem to have a great -- either.

Right I mean David Axelrod seem to have this sort of more -- bell was the answer to everything approach to Obama's speech making.

And the problem for Obama now is he's a lame duck and he's got to go to these states that have voter that voted for Romney in the election to have the public put pressure.

On their senator is -- to back him on an issue that they don't -- back my I just.

It's a very tall order and I kind of feel sorry for Joseph but I think he's sincere on all of this but he's out there with this dog of an issue politically he wants -- -- when he sixteen.

And he's stuck doing this while while Hillary Clinton is gonna -- co host are beyond sixty minutes with Barack Obama.

On this Sunday I'm sure he's pretty bitter about that.

So that's why we have the vice president giving people helpful advice like if you really want to protect yourself go by a shotgun that way he can sort of work both sides of the issue push for the gun control but still be a gun advocate.

-- -- it's -- really great advice because it well I think the shotgun is good it's also really good at killing innocent bystander next to the person breaking into your house.

You know the whole Biden -- a tough -- heat heat.

Knows that he can't be anti gun the problem is that this administration.

Has absolutely easy for good reasons or bad I mean that's not the issue this is an analytical matter has zero credibility.

With the that the gun rights community they they believe that Dianne Feinstein that I believe that -- -- Obama.

Want to take away guns they believe that their bones and this legislation.

Is -- it is so full polls and loopholes.

And -- -- group that wants the late on the predicate to make it easier down the road to check lists of gun owners to.

Sue people who didn't store -- guns to give people give the government the right to go into people's homes.

And -- is no trust that that that that's where the Democrats are gonna stop and so -- it is also has a down payment on a slippery -- these are the people these are the people who are in ninth 2000 aide to Senator Obama sought clinging to their guns and religion.

Enemies of the people he apparently thinks that he's going to move.

And persuade to be in favor of gun control states like West Virginia and Wyoming imagine it's not gonna happen -- and I'm -- there's -- presently -- an analytical political matter that this thing ever gets out of the senate.

And I think John Boehner loves the idea of just simply saying we will give serious consideration to what ever Harry Reid senate.

Passes and sends onto us on the matter of gun control.

Because it's -- terrible wedge issue for Democrats and I don't think Obama has the loyalty among Democrats but he thinks he does and Harry Reid himself has enjoyed the support of the NRA.

In the -- yeah.

-- and Harry Reid can't cross the NRA.

A lot of these guys can't -- it as much of -- -- the NRA as if it's the NRA that holds you know holding these guys ransom.

Their voters in a lot of these places.

The NRA actually does speak for them this is a popular in a position among actual voters in the in these in these essentially red states with with.

With blue senators all right Jonah Goldberg from the national review good analysis as always thank you.
