Well the recent unrest in Egypt and lawmakers debating whether or not US should be sending millions and more aid to that country.
Including F sixteen fighter jets.
You're taking a look right now at new video where just today more than two dozen people were killed protests there.
Joining us now for a fair balanced debate Republican congressman.
-- regal and democratic congressman Juan Vargas both our newly elected in their districts and have been on the job for just a short time but we want to spotlight -- of the new faces on the hill.
Thank you gentlemen for joining us.
Great to be with you think -- How -- -- -- going to be let me begin with you are you -- that the sale of these fighter jets to Egypt could backfire against the US and its key ally.
Absolutely in fact I live here in San Diego.
And we have -- number of military installations we know the capabilities of these planes.
The fighting falcons especially this for a fourth generation falcon is a terrific plain and I am very concerned.
I I think it's a mistake.
Well I think we we do have to talk to Israel about this to figure out what's going on I mean this deal that we did was not with the current president was with Mubarak that would -- -- -- Assistant terrible things in the past and the things going on Egypt -- I think it's mistake personally and I think we needed to talk more with Israel to find out what they believe.
Could happen because I I could see these planes being used not only against Israel the potentially against us.
-- rails not a member of the GOP for example are pushing for the US to hold back further any until it's clear.
-- -- the -- to government proves that has not beholden to the Muslim Brotherhood is that realistic at this point.
Yeah yes and it's a valid concern given more -- history.
But I also would contend that when we're looking at four -- -- We know the mistakes that we made as the United States in the past.
Where we end up arming the kind of wrong side -- things whether we look at what happened in Afghanistan.
Over decades period.
Or even more recently in Libya where we still today it's -- as I'm concerned.
According to our interview seen in hearing with Secretary Clinton.
I want to know whether or not the weapons that we were supplying to the Libyan rebels had anything to do with that consulate in Ben Ghazi.
We've seen -- time and time again we need to be more stringent.
When we are giving out foreign -- most especially when it comes to the hot zone of the Middle East because it is it is imperative that we keep a safe Israel.
Some -- always contended with how.
A safe and secure -- you do not have a safe and secure United States we've got to put a hard line on Morsi.
Alyssa -- -- other issues making news right now to.
How -- from Bart is the president's choice for Defense Secretary is coming under close scrutiny do you have concerns over Chuck Hagel nomination.
No I don't I think that day and obviously we know quite a bit about him he was in the senate he's been around for a long time.
I think he's a person is very capable he served his country well.
And I think the president ultimately deserves a right to choose -- he thinks is gonna serve well and I I think is a great choice so I don't have any concerns at all.
Do you expect a fight that kind of cradle it and I Capitol Hill over this nomination.
Well let's be clear water and I will not have a say in this it's gonna go before the senate but -- in speaking with senate colleagues in in the public reaction to this.
Let's face it hagel.
If he's not being taken a hard line on groups like Hezbollah and Hamas in Gaza he at least has had a -- to kind of vague approach about it.
I want to know where he stands and I want to make sure that he is a firm supporter of our strongest ally perhaps in the world indefinitely in the Middle East.
And that is -- Well gentlemen I know -- -- a lot of issues coming your way in the days and weeks ahead we wish you all the best and we're glad you could be here with us today.
Thank you thank you very much thank you had the pleasure it's nice to agree with the Republicans they go.
We got that agreement already terrific thank.
