And welcome to FOX News Sunday panel plus -- Brit Hume Johnson -- Kimberly is cross -- and Juan Williams you know it we have needing a phone call on Saturday is to discuss.
What we're gonna.
Do our panel topics on and we decided to do Hillary but a close second and so we're gonna do that now was whether the Republican Party there was the first meeting.
Post election of the Republican National Committee there's a big national review conference here in Washington this weekend's of -- that a lot of sort of big picture talk about where the party days ago the political correspondent for the New York Times just Melanie was down in Charlotte.
Four they Republican National Committee conference what did you -- Well one thing that did not come up was the name Mitt Romney not a -- but I heard anyone mention that we're saying is probably a good sign in terms of the fact that people are moving on.
A couple things one -- -- Republican National Committee and Republicans are trying to figure out how they got.
They're clocks cleaned so much on that.
The social media aspect to get out the vote thing septa used to be a really strong sort of operation of this party the mechanics are nuts and bolts on the Obama.
Operation in Chicago just completely overwhelm them so they're talking about that but the harder and that's an -- -- to -- the harder thing to fix it is.
Sort of how they.
But work with this president and if they sort of help him govern -- face.
Compromise a little bit or if they take a hard line and they don't and I think a lot of Republicans.
Are going to face primary challenges if they do.
-- many things and that the conservatives aren't that it interest and and so I think that the the shape of the party is still sort of emerging here we're seeing an outside of Washington.
I'm split with people inside Washington -- regional for example the -- originally the governor of Louisiana and went hard after.
The types in Washington.
And we'll sort -- and he was taking aim at Paul Ryan Harris up -- -- this has to work battle of that that the nuts and bolted affects the rest this stuff has ordered that.
You know I have to say I was talking to a top Romney advisor who just happen to be here in the office.
This like I think he had done an interview and and he was talking.
In off about how they were completely outgunned by the machinery that that the micro targeting the data processing.
Of the Obama campaign and he was talking about reverse engineering you know like the people of Samsung looking at an apple product and trying to figure out I don't mean out of doe lawsuits about sex Samsung -- I tried -- But the idea that you take the finished product and try and work your way backwards to understand how that all the -- That is I think we agree the least interesting part of this march -- -- what does the Republican Party and I'll answer I think that part.
Get out the vote operation today and where they reach voters.
Is very important.
And I'm not sure Jeff how easy it is to fix them in the Republicans have the advantage and in 04.
When they -- elected George W.
Bush against many expectations and in the face of a very good voter turnout operation by the Democrats -- you the best they've ever done to date.
And they got overwhelmed by a great turnout operation.
Propose a democratic turnout turnout operation.
Was by far the best in history in the Republican party's gonna have to -- some.
But to figure out how to get them to go Brent a lot of that has to do with the message that you got -- -- and I -- message that Hispanics in the right message when I and I get all that but the but once you get the message out to the people and you have created a massive people who are willing to vote for you.
You've got to get him to come loopholes in here was a second term.
Election for the president.
And they got and they turned all of these registered voters do you think -- X percentage won't vote in the likely voters it was a tremendous political achievement that.
The best in history by far so -- Look I'm not saying I don't have to have a a more attractive candidate with a more appealing message and all that but that that this mechanical stuff this nuts and bolts stuff.
They got to get that right and I'm not sure -- -- -- -- -- marijuana is one of the things that it seems that this president.
One was pretty effective bat in the last year -- -- term when he was basically running all the time and seems to have an -- about so far.
Is trying to define.
Republicans by -- there against -- you know these are the guys who won't even raise taxes on millionaires these are the guys who won't support.
A universal background check these are the guys who don't want.
You know kids who came here through no fault of -- illegals to have a path to citizenship how do Republicans turn that around and be defined by what their four.
Yeah I mean this and hits was the big lightbulb that went -- over everyone's head down at the Republican.
Retreat that they had last week witches.
I'm Jeff talked about how a lot of Republicans have to make a decision because of the -- primaries or not.
What many Republicans are coming understand -- this president doesn't want to work -- I mean this is not a question of saying should we shall not he is.
Out there what what John Boehner -- -- everything speech that he wants to annihilate them there is a a real feel among many Republicans and that is the case and what he wants to do you must make -- looked as united make them look as though they're not ready to govern -- lead.
And so I think the first in the they have taken out of that is that they have to have more unity.
When you have issues like this tax -- in the elbow running a different direction it only serves -- to highlight what the president is doing.
And they've also got to be proactive on some -- I think you're gonna see some Marco Rubio come out on immigration.
They're gonna try and look like the party that is leading and with better ideas and the president the question again is going to be can be be unified around some of these issues want.
You know I think bigger than micro targeting -- demographics here and I think Republicans are just way off message -- way out of touch.
With not only expanding Hispanic community not only.
Continuing growing black community.
But with women I think the whole notion of women going so strongly pro Obama is evidence that there's something very much wrong -- terms of that relates to so.
What we see right now from the party if things like what recently took place in Virginia where they're trying to change the electoral system in the -- so that it's not winner take all -- reward by congressional district because that would have awarded this more.
Electoral votes to -- you know -- even -- Obama won the state.
Or secondly the gerrymandering.
In terms of congressional districts that helps to keep Republicans in power by consolidating Republican voters.
This can go only so far but it just strikes people light voter suppression as negative an ugly.
As opposed to what -- was talking about things that you stand for things you believe -- here is here are conservative principles why we believe.
And a balanced budget.
Why we believe in a strong military here's why we believe in -- Saying things that I think would appeal to people all -- and all ages but that's not the message the message instead is one of gridlock intransigence.
Kimberly says -- the president doesn't wanna work with them I think the American people have the idea that the Republicans.
Have been very clear this president.
We don't why can't we want to defeat it and we want out of office as soon as possible.
I'm gonna give you -- a quick revolved and the senate -- -- when he does he one is effective.
Who has a certain magic.
-- a candidate again that'll matter they'll have something to say about the enthusiasm voters sickening is the economy.
The US economy as a force of nature it's been held back -- -- -- circumstances and policy now for the past several years.
It might rise again anyway even in the face of the heavy regulation and increase taxes and so on.
And if it comes back it will be a tremendous help.
To whoever the democratic and it is in the third thing is the debt crisis.
It seems clear to me that this president doesn't wanna do much if anything about it beyond raising taxes which should not which is not popular.
In it and if people -- now finally feeling that with the kind of forcing -- in 2010 but greater.
That will level playing seems to me for the Republicans coming -- -- also raising taxes and gonna solve the problem exactly and ended up part of not enough.
But not enough not enough money to do it thank you panel please check in with us throughout the -- let us know what you think about.
Where the Republican Party should go what it needs to do look for my Monday edition of Wallace unplugged we're gonna got a club drop for can -- also.
