-- surrounding a portion of this year's US military aid package to Egypt earlier this week Fox News confirmed the delivery.
The first of twenty F sixteen fighter jets bound for Cairo and the planes were part of the deal.
As -- press back in 2010 but that was before the country's revolution and the rise to power of the Muslim Brotherhood.
KT McFarland is -- -- National security analyst and she joins us now with more.
Thank you for joining us KT -- -- so even President Obama has said that Egypt's alliance with the US which was solid during Hosni Mubarak's thirty year reign.
May be in -- state of transition -- -- his working the deal had already been approved by congress could only have been rescinded by President Obama.
Why did he choose to allow it to go -- -- very very clearly think this is they really bad idea.
Number one.
The national debate right on guns and we've determined that you don't want put dangerous weapons in that the hands of unstable people so why is dangerous weapons into the hands of an unstable country like is Egypt right now.
It has political and economic chaos.
And haven't the second reason is you know except for when we get for an and we get -- -- -- sales.
When I worked for Henry Kissinger was the beginning of the United States' relationship with Egypt and the deal was we'll give you military equipment and aid.
But we want a peace agreement with Israel I want you to keep that have kept the peace for forty years and now -- you just pointed out.
Egypt is made -- re considering that -- even suggested with President Obama that you know they're calling Israel.
-- -- and apes and maybe we should reconsider that DL and then finally the problem I've got -- -- gonna use this stuff for they -- a fire.
Weapons on their own people they're gonna use these airplanes against -- -- people against Egypt against American shipping in the Suez Canal.
I -- -- are really bad idea.
Eighteen why did the president allow it to go through and had their -- ain't guarantee.
As you just mentioned that you know bark at he would not use the weapons against Israel or his own people -- here why the administration says they've got to go through a bit.
They said we -- steal a couple of years ago we're just certain finally delivering that even though it may have signed it with the previous leader.
We're now kind of have to go broke through with the deal that we sign this reason they -- -- if we don't go ahead and get this equipment to Israel and into Egypt.
-- -- And may -- -- make Egypt more unstable.
I don't buy either one you could slow walked the first one even if you have an agreement with them.
And secondly why doesn't it why don't we just say one of the conditions is -- You've got to just say I'm here to abide by that peace agreement with this girl and haven't.
-- -- course met Hosni Mubarak I want to correct myself there.
I'm sorry I've got it again Mohamed Morsi.
And has been a Barton being the previous leader right so where sixteen trillion dollars in debt as well let's talk about the amount of money that goes to Egypt in 2012.
We provided one point five billion in total aid we provided one point three billion in military aid.
Financial -- financing.
Can we continue this kind of support.
Well I don't I think if we give I've I've offer foreign aid -- I think that.
What I want though I think it's cheaper to abide friends and kill enemies but I want -- for that money.
This is just -- gift we want something in return like is but we're not necessarily getting that.
The other thing to remember about Egypt right now -- on the ropes economically.
They need a billion.
The one point five billion dollars a month to feed their people want to get them fuel oil.
And transportation fuel so they're desperate for that kind of assistance -- as you pointed out.
What are we giving money for.
-- -- get anything in exchange for it and we've got to borrow.
Forty cents on every dollar I think it's -- -- rethink the whole thing right thank you very much taking -- bar on as always we appreciate and thank.
