The general -- like to be very specific and I'd like to be very brutal.
About the Republican Party.
What is it that you object to most late.
That cause you to vote for President Obama twice.
I voted for the president twice because first and foremost I didn't think that the economic plans put forward.
By the campaign in 2008 or 2012.
Really for suitors for the times -- -- and so I had an economic reason to do that.
I became a republic and officially in 1995.
After I decided not to run.
And I have voted previously seven straight times for Republican candidates I've spoken at the 1996 convention the 2000 convention I worked for Reagan powerful Weinberger -- worked for Nixon.
As a White House -- so I think my credentials -- fine.
But in the last several years I have been troubled by.
-- right shift of the Republican Party took part of the right now I've said this on a number of occasions.
And so in 2008 I've found that as an American.
The best choice for America at that time and continue in 2012.
Was Senator Obama and then now President Obama reelected.
Now here's what -- it's -- it's you're an analytical man would you say that's correct yes -- try to be all right.
President Obama -- economic plan and work.
Among African Americans when you voted for him.
Twelve point seven unemployment.
December 2012 a month after you voted for me again.
-- -- up.
-- and work.
-- Black income 32000.
Dollars compared to white 55 -- gone down under -- Obama hasn't worked.
So you basically said to yourself I'm still gonna support the guy.
Even always economic policies haven't worked for African Americans and pretty much anyone else.
It's why you only seeing me as an African American bill -- -- you're getting excited you know excited no I know that we consolidated some of your criticisms you said.
And correct me if I'm wrong.
That the disengagement of the Republican Party from the minority community blacks and Hispanics troubled U.
The economic situation in the country has improved but not enough -- -- for African Americans.
I have -- minorities I'm not speaking as an African American outcome to the minority part of my criticism in a moment.
But we have seen a doubling of the stock market the financial system has stabilized.
The economy is starting to improve I wanna see improved even faster.
And in a broader sense so that those who were at the lower end of the economic scale including African American Latino Americans and others can start to come up.
A terrible problem was inherited by the president and it is not just a president who can fix it ultimately.
Those numbers that you just -- -- going to be fixed by an improving economy and an economy that's spread out more.
And more and more African Americans will benefit and Latino Americans if they also get the education needed for the more demanding job so.
And similar matters there's -- hurry now let me young women you seem to be voting again on -- and twelve because we haven't seen an economic improvement in this country very much.
And in addition.
The big spending policies of the Democratic Party in the president.
I've driven the dead as you know too close to seventeen trillion dollars and he's the biggest spending president -- -- -- -- something very interest.
The education beside you and I agree with this and and and the general and I we support the best friends foundation in Washington DC which is mentoring.
The we have some common ground here I know the general for a long time.
We spend more per capita on education than any other country in the world except Switzerland all right so it is -- -- money.
But the money continues to flow it's the discipline it's the disintegration of the family structure.
All of the things that the Republican Party and the conservative movement.
Yet you have drifted away from them and I'm saying -- you know it's not about money in education MI wrong.
It is money and education but it's more fundamental in that and one of the things that you know I've been working on bill over the years.
Is he America's promise alliance which I -- fifteen years ago which my wife now runs.
Where we get into the lives of these youngsters at the earliest stage of learning when they're still infants and to bring them along so when they get into school.
-- -- ready to be educated and can move forward now with respect to some of the things I've been saying have been critical of the party.
Is that I don't think the party recognizes the fundamental demographic changes that are taking place in the country.
And one more generation.
African Americans Asian Americans and Latino Hispanic Americans will be the majority of the country.
And we have to educate those youngsters for the positions of leadership that they are going I don't think that's being done and I hope.
-- I don't think it's I don't think it's being done adequately and the important point have been making.
Is we have to understand that if you want these people to come to the Republican side.
You can't have immigration policies.
That affect them in a negative way -- we do you believe that cost -- one more point -- -- one more point that you can't have policies that try to.
Make it harder for minorities to vote.
I think one of the most terrible things that happened in the past election season.
There's -- we had a number of states that we're going out of their way claiming there was outright fraud.
When there really wasn't any fraud to that be of concern to us.
But we were doing things to making it more difficult for those people vote and what -- that produced it produced ever outpouring of them who stood in line to vote.
And so we need to do more in education we did you do more to fix our economy.
I think the president should focus more on the economy and the debt that we have is not just responsibility of the president last four years.
It's a congress both houses of congress and blow up.
Employees who are driver on it he had -- -- you know yes he did he had a debt commission he ignored.
He's not proposed any meaningful spending -- but let me get a laugh I want to get very micro won this.
We try to seat the full wet wet wet.
The voter ID you object to showing an identification card when you vote now afford another Republican Party -- That's what I just -- all right C.
I object to putting in place additional levels of voter ID.
That one just -- franchise.
Those of our fellow citizens I wanna see a Republican Party.
That rather than trying to make it more difficult to vote and restricting the number of days and hours you can vote a Republican Party that says we want everybody to vote and we're gonna give -- -- reason to vote for.
All right but I don't I don't know I don't know groceries -- that if asking for an ID.
Is trying to restrict the volt I mean I'm sorry you shouldn't be able to prove who you are before you cast the ballot.
No you should be able to prove who you are when you register to vote.
And when you make the proper registration identifying yourself you shouldn't have to go to -- Harlem you know -- for fraud is committed.
And -- I mean Boston and Chicago you register in and you show up but it's not you know come.
Are black hat I come on let's get on to -- race -- -- in my -- I have I have not seen.
Any study that says fraud is a problem with such significance.
That these kinds of procedures were in place and I'm glad to -- that governor Scott of Florida.
As recently said he's turning his back over to -- His local -- I didn't think -- -- an ID to vote is is the bare minimum but let's get good ratio you.
They objected to Sununu.
Who is of the biggest Mitt Romney surrogate.
You know on during the campaign Sununu called -- Obama -- Now she you know -- you -- I don't for a long time you don't think some new news or racist do you.
Know that I -- I didn't call -- always said that that word being sends that -- would it does.
Do you think it is opinion he was lazy on an issue it wouldn't matter if he's white purple or green.
He said he was lazy after the first debate and he said -- a couple of times and -- well let me finish I'll take -- so what is so shocked.
The person who was interviewing and they said you really wanna use that word knowing but -- -- other things that were troubling.
He said you know the president.
Wasn't a real American.
What does that so supposed to mean to somebody -- mean he's not a real American.
Clearly it was in the heat of the campaign he's a partisan I'm not defending Sununu is choice and words I'm not okay all right all right I'm not defending it.
But I'm saying in the -- I know Sununu you know Sununu he's not a racist so why even bring -- just say.
He was foolish let me tell you what that way.
Let me tell you why I wouldn't call I would never call it's not a racist and he -- some very poorly.
Chosen words in my judgment and I think he might agree with the -- respect -- but you have to understand the impact this has.
Are minorities throughout our country and if you want to appeal to these people if you want to bring them to the Republican Party and give them a reason to vote Republican.
You have to avoid this kind of language which can infuriate.
People and caused them to go vote.
So you need to ask is ask yourself the question what happened.
We lost the election.
We even lost the popular vote in the house but retain the house 73%.
Of Asian Americans.
And 94% -- African Americans of the party is at 46%.
Negative approval rating with about -- six hundred twenty seven approval.
We have to do something to change the.
Image and I -- great -- I agree that there has to be fought put out to reach out to those precincts but I didn't think with all due respect general you know I respect you.
That make an old racial issue out of it Sununu who is a blatant partisan was right thing to do -- you -- -- with Sarah Palin when this copy and Inge Ivan stuff.
You know Governor Palin is a performer.
For her crew.
I didn't caller you know you keep saying that but I did use it don't -- was the context of -- -- our report that there.
I know -- the term relief keeps saying they were appealing to their base they're speaking to their people.
I think they have to speak to a larger group of people for Republican Party and that's a -- back on the right track and Bobby Jindal said this morning is well I was about to make the point yeah.
Bobby Jindal has also says a similar things.
Did did -- as -- Haley Barbour and others.
Which I understand appoint a high or making doll I am not a real point you're making -- -- -- your remarks were taken then.
And branded on the GOP the Republican Party the -- about your race is they don't care about the minority black on black and you -- -- actually not true.
I know that's not true but I'm telling you there is this -- of intolerance within the artery potter party.
When you say you know let's self deport people 47%.
-- a lot of things the party has to look in the mirror at.
And say is this we want to be.
Now what I used very carefully -- was -- -- the party.
Some parts of the party there's a dark -- not the whole party.
And I think that's true and I'll stick with that there -- -- level of intolerance that everybody has to look at that the body was talking about down.
I think at the meeting last week saying things Haley -- talking about what exactly.
I spoke to a lot of Republican leaders who know that this is the time.
Not just to criticize those who have criticized the party got but to look in the mirror and say what do we need to do -- -- to make it more -- I.
Got two more questions for -- number one.
You being who you -- our traditional got.
Wounded in Vietnam served his country patriot guy.
By supporting as actively as you did Barack Obama you also put yourself in a category of intolerance.
-- Issues like abortion.
And the president is very bullish on abortion pretty much without restriction -- right issues like.
Entitlement culture when you yourself -- born in the South Bronx and humiliated on your -- The entitlement culture now extends to 50%.
Of the American homes right huge rise in.
So your putting yourself.
In that bracket by supporting.
The Democratic Party through Barack Obama.
Who it seems their values are different than yours general.
Not at all.
First with respect to abortion I am pro choice.
I believe that a woman and her partner -- our conscience and her religion and her family.
Should make this choice I would not so.
Push abortion I hope people can avoid that that that decision.
But once that decision in his face and I think under the law everybody has the right to make the choice in consultation.
With themselves -- conscience their god their family and their partner.
With respect to entitlements.
Yes I was raised in South Bronx but I can assure you it was Social Security that kept my.
Parents in the respectable comfort.
After they had retired and they paid into that that's not so -- -- -- not yet that's not what I'm talking all I would get I would have means testing in a heartbeat in fact I should be means tested.
I think there are a lot of things we could do -- entitlement reform I think -- lots of areas in our government where we can take a hard look entitlement reform other areas.
And there are ways to cut the budget but the president doesn't know and that he and number one thing has been number one thing bill.
It is the congress to -- -- appropriations bills that.
Pays for the bills -- I have.
Yeah Bruno Barack Obama is behind the big spending jargon now.
This is I might ask I think the entire congress has been behind the big spending not the real public and -- -- -- congress -- -- and I'm not speaking as a Republican I'm just speaking for the record.
But right now this is a rude question and I'm sorry to have to ask it.
This is the scuttlebutt.
For on the Republican side -- They said.
There's this edited by more than want.
-- you're angry.
With the Republicans.
Be cost the major look bad in the weapons of mass destruction deals during the Iraq War.
I don't believe that I have to -- on -- saying I don't believe that that's -- motivating you I think here.
Genuinely sincere guy and American sees it that the way you see it I disagree in some areas I agree and others.
But this is around.
That Cheney and these guys you like them -- had no use for Cheney had no use for this war he did what they asked you to do.
It turned out there were no weapons of mass destruction and held that.
Want to comment on.
As a bunch of nonsense I presented the information that we all had from the intelligence community.
And when I went to the UN.
It was with the assurance of the CIA that the information I had to course correct.
Cheney is that same -- -- the president did all of our commanders thought it was correct.
And we all we're saying so the congress voted dirt on the basis of that it is amazing and I did two more months earlier right.
Before I spoke and so I made a choice based on the information I had and I don't have to -- Answer idiotic questions like that are about whether I'm mad at somebody of.
I appreciate -- general wasn't too bad was it coming if I had a good time and I invited back fill the general -- will listen.
-- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- I think it was an important interview we're very happy you did thank you very much thank you bill.
