Well it is the viral act of kindness we first brought you last week the sterling family from Missouri.
First got an email they got about five orphans in Peru was a -- Until they discover the overseas plea was the real deal.
The Missouri family of four did not have a lot of money.
But they realize -- could help and now those five orphans have a new home and a new family.
And Lauren and Scott sterling join us live to talk about it god bless you and your family.
You stop problem and you decided to help a citizen viewers last -- so many times you see a problem I think all that's terrible meanwhile with your lives.
And you -- did so much more let me start with you on this Lauren.
You heard this plea when she found out it was legit how did you go from saying this is terrible to.
I am I would like to become their new mother and give them -- home.
I did what a lot of people the issue I first read and buy it costs a lot of somebody with a lot of money should give back.
It's a great a great thing I want I yeah I think people deserve -- -- in my thinking -- -- -- family but I didn't immediately think it can be yes.
-- it took me several months and it took me seeing some things and orphanage and different country and just this limit its exposure to some other things to go up caffeine -- that it could be yes it's it's possible that it can be yes now.
Scott you you are part of a long -- a landscape company you -- you freely admit you don't have a ton of gal was there any hesitation about the financial expense to your family.
Not to mention the emotional.
Expense of taking inside -- family members.
Oh yeah I mean you can be in I'm very practical in.
Very logical and so initially I was like how -- gonna do this.
How are we gonna do this and and I remember a moment -- IA I have friends and family -- saying you guys are crazy for even considering unison.
And I moments where I thought well you know I love my life I'm comfortable with where I am and and everything's good enough and I heard myself saying those things and I just couldn't imagine.
Telling god that some day that.
These people needed these kids needed families they needed parents that I -- you know too comfortable my wife and and decided that was more important my comfort was more important than these kids have.
Parents and law.
And their parents died six years earlier of tuberculosis and the and the oldest brother just decided he wanted to keep their family together the five of them in Peru.
And they maintained that in it in an orphanage.
And we're asking the world to help give them a -- at a family they -- their family a place to live and and then they met you -- -- -- you -- started to talk over Skype.
But tell us about when when they first came to Missouri and he first got them.
Into your home.
What was that like -- I think after several weeks in true we were there for five weeks.
I almost forgot what life was like before that so.
And that's kind of get its good to you to have -- -- so then when you come home and you have a family of nine.
It's a new normal it feels like a new normal for us.
They love our house we we think we need more showers they -- there's a line waiting for showers -- -- day.
At first win that we were selling they didn't understand why we -- -- -- by a lot of belief.
So they're very -- one male love that they -- they're used to sharing.
They even without a family Dave felt like they had siblings -- growing up -- an orphanage with kids that.
They shared everything went so they're great -- sharing in doing life together they'll all sit on the same couch to watch the same video on one computer screen so.
They are very comfortable it's it's good for them.
And the picture here we can see -- two a daughter's.
Who also took out a budget siblings as a result of the smoke Scott had a they react -- this.
Slow the all the time talking about her Brothers and sisters -- Brothers and sisters and she was.
-- our our five new kids were teaching -- Spanish and so she said a lot of bomb most Chico's and all and all this other stuff and and was pretty hilarious starters nineteen year old was in college and had to finish up.
Final exams -- we landed here in Kansas City that was the first time she got to see them in person and and they just adore her they love her so much and and it's very neat deal.
Lauren I know that you're a family of faith and that your church -- been instrumental in helping this whole thing happen.
But the people in your community also rallied to help you -- -- -- that was very moving that they they when they saw what you did they they found acts of kindness is.
Acts of -- to offer you of their own tell us.
Eighth save people from all over the place we have received -- anonymous gifts and the mail whether it's gift cards or.
A gift card from some I don't know paid for most of our school supplies and we started this semester.
And yesterday air and it's just a few days ago we had paper Calvin peanut butter on the front porch and it seems like small things -- -- all of those little things all of the things that you don't think about wind when you're not feeding nine people.
Are huge deal lasts paper towels in peanut butter and basics are things that -- -- flying -- never made more trash in our lives.
Diet aid it's all things and that that help but I think it's good reminders that when I didn't aspire self.
Not everybody's called to do what we did not everybody -- outlook and for five kids to bring into their home by.
That's how our community -- our church has played a part in the story is by supporting -- then and helping us stay strong on days that may be -- -- don't mean anything now.
The anonymous gets may come on the perfect day when we just needed in your mind -- that we're going to be okay that we're -- I think -- People from all over the place have been supportive been given.
I can tell you getting some more donations because.
