At work Harry -- is a former NYPD detective the president of how consulting incorporated a private investigation firm Harry joins us now.
There you go into businesses honor on a regular basis and help them train for just such these attacks exactly.
The -- to survivability is having -- plan.
If you don't have a plan to invent some like this happens in the with the what happens is a good chance that you're going to be severely injured.
So -- -- -- -- more and more to solve this law firm shooting we see it again and again we saw of course tragically it's in -- elementary school of the current Connecticut.
So when the first things you say to do is to have a plan -- escape plan that everyone is aware of in the office place so.
We sort of stage this down here in our newsroom to give an example of what would look like if there was unfortunately.
Some kind of shooting that would take place.
Correct but it said the person's escape.
All right let's say the shooters coming from the door.
Okay all right the first thing you're gonna hear shots all right so and yelling and screaming yelling and screaming and you've got to have -- -- already you know my which -- gonna do.
The first option is to escape.
OK if you think you can make it out here and make it to the exit down the hallway here OK that's fine you got a straight hallway here.
Which is kinda bad okay because you do your chart run on the -- so if you decide that you want to run down our hallway divesting the -- was zigzag.
Are you -- less chance of being shot.
Okay nor -- our soldiers do sort of exactly as is typical military and police training.
All right second -- the second thing didn't need to do is -- If you can't make it here.
Down with some of these exits -- block there's no way to get to some of these Texas.
Do your best we certainly saw that -- sandy -- shooting exactly teachers trying to hide their children inside of closets which actually saved their lives in space like this.
As an example in a newsroom here.
What would what would we do the hot where we go we'll -- -- -- you you've got two great rooms here.
All right.
-- one thing you can do if you can't make a tour was maybe hide under the desk okay we'll go into the -- first here.
-- got a great wrong here we got a solid doors and we've got a great a lock on the story.
So we'll come until the moment.
We're going to shut that door.
-- -- -- -- -- You're gonna take a barrier like this.
And push it in front of the door and you're gonna barricade yourself inside this room was really good you got another one -- -- got -- -- them you can barricade yourself in -- Until the police get -- out.
The first two or three minutes is the most important time and an active shooter incident.
Because that's when all the killings -- world should lose them it's gonna take at least two to three minutes to get here.
And that might have to coordinate outside -- might be a little longer than that -- that for them to be and we didn't.
And god forbid them once -- have some individuals -- behind the desk right I mean that if you have to California location is you know you could hide under your desk already.
And then all you have to really do.
It is.
Put its share -- -- and and hopefully you know the shooter won't.
Visually visually you're out of the way now.
If you got a last resort here okay.
Escape the walked the hallways are blocked he can't get alcohol -- were you hiding is not an option for you.
You're confronted with this guy with the gun fighting the last resort right.
This is the last resort you have to remember that that is the last resort to fight.
If if you've got to attack the shooter don't go unarmed and you have to use what you have available to you here in your office right.
We've got a letter opener.
All right so even the minute you get from your -- to escape grab something grab some kind of weapon because you're not gonna run into somebody or not.
You got a pair of scissors OK and you got a fire extinguisher.
All right these are things we found on this office here are at the fire extinguisher view bloated and some guy's face in the that you -- to attack them that's going to be the help you any -- Italy.
