US moved to simply force should -- move forward simply to give the green light for complete open borders.

Well our next guest says yes the author of -- -- a mall and Jason Riley is joining us and he's a member of the wall street journal editorial board welcome great to have you here today.

Thank you for having me -- Clinton decree with that characterization.

Of my position the book is an argument.

For moving to a free market system from moving -- -- -- the lets the supply and demand the question I have -- inspiration what do you mean by having open borders how would that work.

Well you would you would let right now the problem what drives illegal immigration in the does that there too many people chasing too few leaves us.

So I would want to bring that in the balance we should allow people to come to meet labor needs of the US economy and right now we have.

Politicians and public policy makers essentially engaged in central planning.

Which didn't work for of the Soviet Union and doesn't work in the US regarding immigration which is one reason we have.

Eleven million plus illegal immigrants in the country right now we want to reduce.

Well some say the biggest mistake -- in 86.

When Reagan.

Put through some reforms that allowed amnesty for those undocumented workers -- there was no legal.

Entry path for future immigrants do you agree with that.

Yes that was the biggest problem the biggest problem.

Was that we legalize the population that was here.

Illegally but did not provide ways for our employers have access to low skill or labor.

Going forward and we will be in exactly the same position.

If all we do this time.

Is legalized the people who already here right now obviously our economy.

Is struggling but we will get back our motel lovely economy will grow there will be labor demands going forward and then last.

People from south of the border can.

Game legal access to a labor market.

They will start coming illegally again so I think the key to solving this problem or at least moving towards the solution.

Is not simply dealing with the illegal population already here.

But dealing with the prospects for the economy growing and our players needs -- -- labor going forward.

There right idea the president with his plan and then he should have bipartisan.

Group of senators saying that we will go forward with having people here sort of amnesty is they're calling it or not calling -- path to citizenship.

If you have strict border enforcement.

Do you think that's realistic at this point or do you think we're gonna -- the president's way move forward first.

Well I think that's a work in tandem a guest worker program.

Alleviates pressure.

On the border frees up our Border Patrol focus on real threats most of the people coming to overwhelming majority.

Of the people coming our economic migrants who would use the front door if we let them come through it.

That would alleviate pressure on Border Patrol free them up to chase down people who -- weekend.

Drug dealers human smugglers potential terrorist and so forth.

So I think it will work in tandem and I don't want to put the cart before the courts say that we need to make the border impenetrable.

Before we can deal with the guest worker program.

Because -- you're not gonna make the border and had a triple.

And be again to work in tandem you wanna reduce pressure on the border by giving people more legal ways to and to be last.

Jason -- great to see you today thank you so much for joining us with your insights.

Thank you.
