One Milwaukee sheriff is making a bold statement about 911 not being your best option take a listen.

With officers laid off and furloughed simply calling 911 in waiting is no longer your best option.

You -- beg for mercy from filing criminal hide under the -- or you can fight back but are you prepared.

Consider taking a certified safety course and handling of firearms you can defend yourself -- -- we get there given duty to protect yourself and your family.

We're partners now can -- count on you.

The man behind that radio -- joins me now Milwaukee County sheriff David Clark junior thanks sheriff for being with us this evening.

-- this month was all right now I have to tell you that that is a very dangerous -- PSA a public service announcement.

What closed due to actually do that.

Announcement.

While the backdrop -- this we've had severe public safety cuts humble the city Milwaukee police department and want to county sheriff's office.

We've had rising.

Response times 52 minutes to respond to a burglary -- through no fault of the officers this -- the lack of political commitment.

By the elected leaders here Wisconsin was abandoned not only -- -- offices but the citizens as well.

So is that concept that any individual doesn't play a critical role.

In their own protection is foreign to me as a matter of fact.

Personal safety is an individual responsibility my job part of my job is to give people the honest truth of what's going on.

And I've operational -- two important things have gone on in the state of Wisconsin recently won his castle doctrine and protects.

Homeowners inside their home should intruder come in the other is the personal protection act.

Which allows citizens to apply for permanent and to arm themselves trying to leverage -- those two things so that we can better protect this community.

And and you know -- it's interesting most people think that 911 is the end all I have to do is call it and they'll be -- And you know I was looking at some of the lawsuits and -- a written arisen out of 911 calls were nobody shows up where it.

The police haven't been dispatched or one person calls after -- been shot.

You know seven minutes later calls again he -- shot now is running down the highway.

And then is heard being shot to death and mean -- is like that are not unusual.

But no -- is taken you know the the this and that you have which is let's level with the citizenry and in fact I think that it was your mayor.

Who said something like do we have any -- thought on that yet know we have -- -- apparently.

Sheriff David Clark is auditioning for the next dirty Harry movie now that's the mayor.

What say you to that point.

Well I wasn't surprised I was hoping to hear something coherent logical.

From the mayor.

He's part of the reason why that the areas and the the plate that it is but you know just that personal safety.

It's not a passive activity it's a very dynamic one.

We need to engage citizens and the more that we empower people.

To clear role in their own personal safety the better community that Milwaukee is going to be and I assume sheriff that.

You know wouldn't when we talk about a band.

On assault rifles and a ban on handguns like in Chicago and Washington that's not something that you're in favor of.

Not at all I I trust law abiding citizens I trust law abiding citizens -- two go arm.

What I fear judged is a criminal perpetrate a with a gun what I fear.

Is a lenient prosecutor's office and -- -- judiciary who will not enforced vigorously.

The laws that we have on the books that will send a different message to the criminal element.

That.

That kind of activity is not going to go on.

And and you know sheriff I want you do like take a look at this Homeland Security.

Video real fast.

It Department of Homeland Security says what we should do if a man's murderer comes and we have that one guys.

Yes if you are caught out in the open and cannot conceal yourself or take cover you might consider trying to -- -- the shooter -- whatever means are available.

To protect your hiding place locked the door if you can.

Blocked the door with heavy furniture and clothes cover and move away from windows hide behind a large items such as cabinets or guests.

You know sheriff if you heard -- they spread.

-- scissors I mean are you kidding this is the department of homeland security and they're worried about people defending themselves with the guns.

Sheriff not Clark I assume that you don't think revenue -- a good idea of someone's coming -- you would have gone.

Does -- -- that the other day and I left the HS is out of touch.

I like to think that my finger on the pulse of what goes on at street level with both the officers in the community.

And again I'm not afraid of empowering citizens to make critical decisions and I don't wanna sit here and and tell people in this situation do this in this situation that that's why I emphasize it's an individual.

Responsibility people have to make the best determination.

With what they're faced with on the ground in those situations arise but the thought of grabbing a scissors and.

That is -- really ridiculous -- and -- sheriff -- I couldn't agree with you more.

Thanks so much for being with us would love to have you on again.

So -- my pleasure -- right and here's.
