-- secretary Panetta is expected to testify on Thursday.
-- being Ghazi that is something that a lot of senators including Lindsey Graham in particular have been pushing for.
He wanted that before -- confirmation of John Kerry.
And before the hate hearing so let's bring in Steve Hayes senior writer at the weekly standard -- Fox News contributor good morning Steve good to have you here -- month.
In a lot questions about this.
You know and in terms of that timing just just to address that whole issue of -- this isn't a 911 call.
-- -- John McCain in the hearings with Hillary Clinton.
Said we lost two of those people the two former Navy SEALs in the final hour.
Of what I -- was a seven or eight hour exchange that that that would make that a tough statement for him to defend on Thursday.
Indeed -- you've heard of Penske we've heard other people familiar with the assets that we had in the region suggests that at the very least he could have had some kind of a flyover to try to disperse.
This angry -- but what I found most interesting about what secretary Panetta just said in think in the clip that you played.
Is that he seems to be blaming the intelligence community saying we really need to have better intelligence well.
Certainly.
There are are many reports that we know about.
That the intelligence community had been feeding up it did into the State Department.
I had been making on its own warning precisely about the kind of unrest and instability in Ben Ghazi.
Not caused by these jihadist groups -- we saw.
Repeated reports about that so there were lots of reports about the general stability in the sit in in that area.
To say nothing of potentially reports.
About bad day where did the potential -- this hearing on Thursday as they said Lindsey Graham.
Really did not want the hazel hearings even to go forward until Leon Panetta had been questioned.
Extensively on what he knows.
What I do think did that Republicans will likely have learned a lesson from the -- got the hearings.
Week before this last week where they spent most of their time.
Talking rather than just asking questions I think there are a lot of tough questions -- Leon Panetta.
Should have to answer I expect that Republicans.
Well asking those questions and hopefully given the opportunity to provide response.
-- yet you know what that's such a great point I mean let's hope that the questioning from the senate at this week is short and sharp.
And that it gets to the point we'll see.
Let's have a little bit about chuck -- -- because Bill Kristol.
One of your colleagues of course wrote an interesting piece on sort of the importance of reconsidering sometimes -- nominations he used Harriet Miers as an example on said he thinks that's -- Democrats need to do here any chance of that.
I think it's possible I think it's less likely to -- Harriet Miers thing -- and we're with respect to Harriet Miers.
The conservative opposition to her nomination at the Supreme Court came out pretty early.
And made made a strong case that thought that she was you know if if not unqualified less qualified than.
Others and we eventually got Samuel Alito who has served with some distinction on the Supreme Court I would say.
Since -- since he was placed on the High Court.
Bout with respect -- Chuck Hagel what's interesting to meteor will be interesting to me is to see what Democrats come out.
And actually opposed his nomination and he had a miserable.
Appearance it was really a disaster.
When he testified last week.
You've heard that from people not only who are usually critical of the administration but people who were paid to defend the administration like Robert -- the former spokesman said it.
He was on prepared.
-- NM impressive.
Yeah I mean where's it go from here that made did does it look like it's still gonna pass TO.
Or -- you know is there any sort of -- -- -- Robert Gibbs kind of ground -- for for reconsideration.
We had senator Joseph lands from Nebraska Republican become the second Republican -- said that he intends to support.
The nomination of course Chuck Hagel from Nebraska served from Nebraska.
I think the real question is what will.
A Democrat it's senate Democrats from red states -- you've got a number of senate Democrats who couldn't have been impressed with that performance.
Who aren't necessarily gonna want to follow that the president and the White House in lockstep and it's hard for me to imagine that -- anybody who watched that be they Democrat or Republican wanting to support the White House wanting to defer to the president.
Could've been impressed with what Chuck Hagel is doing -- when you look at that the pockets of instability.
Around the world than the kinds of things that we're likely to face -- a country over the next four years.
If you vote for Chuck Hagel you're going to be putting yourself on record supporting him in that position as we head into these troubled times.
All right was -- happens certainly Thursday seat thank you so much -- -- --
