We're checking with Bob -- -- managing editor of the hill he joins us now live from Washington an -- a couple of subjects we wanna talk about today.
And one is this secret house group Bob it's very close to an immigration reform agreement what are you know what to.
Yeah that's our lead story today and some -- bipartisan group of house members a lot of focus has been on the senate.
But these house members have been meeting off and on for four years and they say they -- actually.
Ahead of where -- senate is could remember the bipartisan gang of eight in the senate.
They released a 56 page white paper wasn't legislation and bodies -- at the draft a white paper than legislation itself.
This group which includes -- -- Louis Gutierrez is very close to.
President Obama and includes Republicans as well.
They have crafted an up close two introducing legislation that at a thorny issues you know they're not revealing a lot of details yet because.
-- the biggest issue of course is a path to citizenship and and and -- years is pushing for that.
Republicans are stressing border security.
And it gets into the whole issue of well.
Who is going to -- say that the borders are six year because both the house and the senate agree that.
You gotta make sure the borders are secure before you have this path to citizenship but but how you define Netanyahu proves that is it is that.
The key sticking point who would with the senate version give.
-- Homeland Security -- the Paula tunnel final say on border security.
Yes that's right she would have the final say so you know Republicans wary of -- that's the L bomb initiation a lot of Republicans say the borders not to care.
We've seen a lot of signals from the White House flat out statements -- that borders security has never been as strong as it is now so.
You know when you get into the details and a lot of optimism on immigration reform will -- the details -- get amendments.
It's going to be very difficult -- pass -- the house and senate but without a doubt this is the best shot that they've had -- in more than a decade.
All right let me move on to.
Senator Robert Menendez of New Jersey -- first time he's been in trouble.
And but the latest one boy way has got a lot of tongues wagging the dog New Jersey newspaper is now -- -- men and days.
To break his silence.
And essentially.
Come clean as to whether there was any inappropriate.
Relationships with underage.
Prostitutes.
What are you know.
This is it is going to be a tough one I think for a Menendez says to survive unless he gets his side of the story out he has denied -- but a statement.
And you know when you press statement and and prostitutes is in a statement.
You know you're in political trouble he is denied that he's had sex with underage prostitutes.
With his ophthalmologist friend is a big donor recently.
Last month.
He reimbursed at this ophthalmologist who is office was raided by the FBI.
About 60000 dollars for plane travel now he just -- reimburse him.
-- last month for trips that were taken in 2010 so that's that's us that's another troubling sign there.
This is gonna be -- you know a circus for both democratic leaders that it creates a major headache for -- Menendez is part of that.
-- the gang of eight is working on immigration also just replace John Kerry as chairman of the foreign relations committee so.
I do think that at some point Menendez -- have to have a press conference because the media stocking.
Came out and he is dodging them but he can only dodge them for so long you you can't run and hide from the media -- ever.
Yeah but times.
And I can't even remember his past.
Difficulties.
That they were considerable so you -- I can't remember I memory came up in different.
Campaigns that he had and Republicans it.
Have attempted to use that against -- and it was always as I recall it was always some type of donor.
To his campaign that -- -- trouble.
And he was Yemen and has never been charged with anything but but there's always that kind of dogging him when he was in the house and any he won his senate seat was.
Ethics was an issue that the Republican that ran against him put on the table of -- Menendez was he able to easily win his -- rates I'd be tempted to say.
Don't you think these guys -- ever learned that that would assume that he's guilty of doing something wrong now I certainly don't wanna make that accusation.
Bob -- managing editor of the hill Bob good to see you as always thanks -- it's.
