But she's also a New York Times best selling author her latest book is the chronicle of six people who faced extreme challenges in their lives.
But they overcame them to become stronger than they were before the book is called ten years later six people who faced adversity.
And transform their lives I spoke with -- earlier you write about people who have overcome adversity.
But you're no stranger to it you've survived breast cancer and you come out of that stronger.
A lot of people would come out of it you know demoralized and hurt and an afraid how did you -- how were you able to come out of it even stronger.
I think the interesting thing Mike is I was going through breast cancer and a divorce simultaneously and I think sometimes in a case like that the tendency is to hole up to get under the covers.
And just wanna forget about it but I think it's one of those things that if you can make it through either breast cancer divorce or whatever your cross to bear is if you're still standing and even if you're a little bit T -- if you're still -- you get four words.
And to be the forwards are you can't scare me and I got those four words after after I made it through breast cancer and -- something interesting happened.
When I was at NBC and and I never asked for a job -- -- we sat and waited for someone to notice me but I decided in this case you know what.
I have this new thing going on I feel strong and I'm gonna go -- my -- and -- -- ask about this new hour of today.
And I'm gonna ask for that job so.
I took the elevator up to 52 floor -- my big bosses and I walked in and I I felt empowered I -- like you can't scare me I want this job and my boss was like.
That's crazy but at the end of the day I realized that if you feel strong inside.
And you have confidence.
Then and then you can get what you want -- I felt very very very blessed to be able to do that.
Now in this book that you've done you take the lives of six people you look at -- over a ten year period.
Through their first he's one of the stories.
Was about.
A person that you met just days after 9/11 it is a very powerful story I want you to tell what happened.
-- you know it's funny it was a guy named Ron Clifford and he went down to the world trade senator for some work can and that's when all hell broke loose and he was actually trying to help -- rescue this woman who was burned from head to -- was wrapping her up.
In as she NA -- -- table cloth he was trying to protector and you know at that sounds tragic enough to be down there witnessing it what he did know that it was that his sister.
And niece were in one of the planes above him.
And he did learn that to later it was a horrible horrible.
Tragedy and he lost them and what's weird Mike was.
After when I when I first sat down with -- to interview and I see he was he was sitting there and he said to me.
What is your name and I had met him before and I said my name is coda.
And he said what kind of -- name is how -- a and I look at him and I said.
I'm an Egyptian.
And he said stand up.
And this is you know he'd he'd learned all this horrible news and I stood up and I thought oh my god.
This guy is so mad that he's gonna do something because I've -- I'm like do something to me if someone had if -- lost loved ones and and this is the closest thing you could get and he looked at me cube wrapped his arms around me any hugged me and I started crying because he was hugging me.
And he said I loved on Moore said that it's it's a beautiful country I want you to know and he was he was console -- me which I found so.
I'm real and I loved him from from that minute they get you know I think about a get choked up but I loved him from that minute.
On and you'll you'll see in the book how he emerged ten years later and you'd think that this guy should be.
You know who you know just really getting treatment.
Non stop but he found he found his way out to.
The book is just filled with these great.
And wonderful reminders.
Of of the capacity of a human being to overcome incredible adversity.
You know speak university.
For her you work with my good friend Kathy Lee Gifford every -- -- a stop right there the no I'm dawn we're not even getting close to stop and and and you guys have had this long tradition at the end of each of -- -- fourth hour of today.
You sort of celebrate the end of the show with a little glass of red wine but I know that -- recently decided that you were gonna give up the wind for a month.
But we wanted you to feel at home and so we have provided you not why because I don't wanna have you break your pact with Kathie Lee.
But we have provided for you Baptist -- especially -- are you so you'll feel a little bit at home -- My only -- all year let me let me make sure that's what it is.
That is baptists were there you go it's a wonderful wonderful story.
A great great reminder of a great country and great people and it and you're one of them -- thank you so much for being here love you Mike thank you.
