New reaction from house Republicans after President Obama asked for a short term budget plan.

To rewarded with the Pentagon has called devastating defense cuts less known as the sequester.

The White House is offering a trade off that includes some spending cuts and some more taxes.

But house majority leader Eric Cantor says that that deal will not -- Perhaps.

-- -- it you know -- just more of the same.

You know we've got a real problem in this country we know.

We're spending much for money then we have and continue to retrieve plus dollars a year.

And it's just got to stop has got to stop because you know it doesn't help people for us to keep doing that.

Joining me now house majority -- California congressman Kevin McCarthy good morning congressman good to have you with us today.

Thanks for having -- video what what do you think about that at the president's asking for more time day a lot of people I think at home listen to that -- -- and didn't this would be the second extension we've already had on this.

Which was supposed to be -- make or break push to come to some agreement before the end of the air.

Well look the whole idea sequestration was the president's idea.

The house actually passed last year twice the way to find the cuts were protecting the military.

And the senate ignored in the present ignored.

Then he asked for two months of the fiscal cliff now access to get that does not solve the problem and remember this -- -- is just coming back to -- same answer to take more money.

And the taxpayers.

It is not the answer we need to get government out of control and expand this economy.

You know the thinking is that it on the fiscal cliff DL he didn't have all that much leverage but that this time around you do.

Charles Krauthammer is a special report last night with them Brett -- and basically said you know it big they need to do nothing Republican should sit on their hands in this -- Our unity that.

Well look we're not doing nothing in this in this sitting back because we have passed the bill that would -- the cuts today could move forward but we have -- moving forward to.

Produce a budget that balances.

And actually grows the economy where the precedent for the last five times has missed the deadline.

We had to threaten the senate to even talk about -- -- budget because they haven't done one in four years with their pay.

And now we're passing a bill today that asking the president actually say what his budget would even balance -- -- -- that the last two weeks have to spend our time.

The most basic things to get them to answer.

You know in the the president said yesterday that they have already cut two and a half trillion dollars done in deficit reduction.

That all of the things that were on the table when he tried to.

Make a deal with that with John Boehner are still there entitlement reform tax reform all of that he says is still on the table come to the White House come speak with him.

Try to hammer out a deal based on that framework why not.

You know how many jobs have been -- the White House and he pulls the football out from under you have visited this president can never come to an agreement congress to show that they can do -- action.

Think from one moment.

Of all the budgets the president has sent to this capital it has not received one vote from a Republican -- -- Democrat.

This president has increased spending.

And put deficits as a trillion dollars every single year.

He can't continue that the CBO director just warned yesterday but the amount to debt to -- GDP.

Is in dire -- -- that we have to do something about it so what's your next you know.

Well our next move this continues.

Put a budget that reforms.

-- government expands the economy and let's as well that's something that we pass.

This is sequestration that this president asked for it is the Obama sequestration is going through on March 1 he requested it he has ignored at the house -- that that the senate had to.

-- will allow sequestration to kick in on March 1.

This is what the president asked for these -- the cuts that he requested and that is what's moving forward.

What you think the president is so reluctant he says he's willing to do -- -- -- -- -- And you know and why would -- be reluctant to do things like means testing or two raise age not people who are getting these benefits now.

But for those of us who are under -- -- 55 and you have a ways to go before they get to that point.

Why do you think he doesn't want to come together with Republicans -- that idea which seems to get a lot of general support.

I think you get support from both sides the president will never put in his budget.

He's never campaigned for it and he's always fought against it in the time that he came for he'd say he's for something but never show what -- -- That's the challenge when he says come negotiate with them I think what needs to happen the house pass a budget.

The senate needs to pass a budget they haven't done that in four years and then let's start working from -- show where the path will be.

Where you could make fiscal -- fiscal responsibility here and bring accountability back to Washington.

Right to -- the sequestration would kick again on March the first.

And encouraging both sides to come for the senate says they're gonna put out a budget has been over three years so we'll see -- that looks like.
