New fallout over the Obama administration's drone program civil rights groups are calling the president a hypocrite for backing a policy that could target.
American citizens who have not been charged with any crime.
Overseas so after all of his tough talk against alleged torture in the Bush Administration white house Press Secretary Jay Carney.
Yesterday.
Played a very carefully crafted defense on this take a look.
I would point you to -- the ample.
Judicial precedent for the idea that someone who takes up arms against the United States in a war against the United States.
He is it is an enemy and therefore could be targeted accordingly that's I think established in -- number of cases and I'm not even a lawyer I'm aware of that.
They have a case -- brown joins me now deputy assistant secretary of defense under President Reagan and Fox News national security analyst.
Morning Kati and and -- and I'm guessing they don't have a problem with this with this drone policy in and of itself riot.
-- -- If it of the Bush Administration what are -- talking impeachment now the Bush Administration -- What happened they water boarded three admitted self and the seven indicted.
And criminals who were part of September 11.
And and that was something that was called gray hue and cry now we have American citizens being killed and as you -- -- no problem.
When anybody being killed it makes -- my country.
But were donated in such I think -- in an open ended way and it frankly the interesting thing in the irony is it's the same guy.
John Brennan was that the CIA.
During the waterboarding -- enhanced interrogation and he's now the mastermind of the drone wars and he's going their.
Be the new CIA director.
It tells us about the Obama administration's policy towards the war on terror what is it will be well I think a couple of things one they don't want to get their -- series you know they really don't want to have any American casualties nobody wants American casualties.
But the problem with that I think -- 38 in in the hole drone war idea number one.
We may have been very good at the very beginning when we were taking out some key people in very difficult to reach parts of Pakistan and Afghanistan but we now expanded veteran -- and -- killing an awful lot more people.
And what has happened is that are we now creating a whole new generation of people who hate us who want to come after us who feel that they have -- cause.
To go to war against America the other thing I find a problem is he a win for us it's not a war right the drone -- -- -- a game.
But for the guy on the receiving -- -- a war.
And the -- -- mark -- that worries me it probably more than anything we're lowering the threshold of when we use force.
You know what I think it's an important thing to have Americans in the loop and by doing something where no Americans are -- risk.
In an odd way it makes war more likely I'm not sure that's where we're.
You know very interesting -- house is Kay -- One of the things that strikes me is that it negates your ability to get intelligence from many of these individuals -- IAE and we know that the president has not fond of the of the -- model.
But it just raises a lot of questions about the most useful way to apprehend people and to get information from the and basically.
Yes we now right we're talking about -- while Lockheed -- American born citizen who we know was an inspiration to.
The Fort Hood shooter yeah and to the Times Square bomber and to -- underwear -- I think that most Americans would think that's a pretty -- legitimate case that has been built there.
And two others who were who were connected to him right we're not -- about any other incidences that we now.
That I have a guess American citizens now you're an awful lot against Al al-Qaeda writ large Taliban writ large.
But -- precedent does that set up.
You know what were the only guys with drones now but that's not gonna last -- what happens when other countries get trounced debates are taking out an American ambassador in American CIA agent.
Driving a car in Saudi Arabia on the -- weren't you under and in amazing sort of set of circumstances you could even see drone attacks.
In the United States I just I worry about the precedent.
I worry about the generation that we're creating a people who -- really -- hate America and I worry about lowering the bar so that we make it much too easy.
To pull that trigger and -- go to war.
At -- where we don't have anything at risk.
It's fascinating because we basically heard that the war on terror was was over and many -- is.
And yet it has been carried on in in a way that may perpetuated if you're right.
Katie thank you so -- ever -- let us always preached cocktails.
