Well drastic cuts are about to hit the United States defense budget is part of a deal to congress cut last year but according to president bomb those cuts.
Might not be enough.
We can't just cut our way to prosperity.
Democrats and Republicans have still been able to come together and cut the deficit by more than 2.5.
Trillion dollars through a mix.
Spending cuts and higher rates.
On taxes for the wealthy.
So does that mean more taxes to New Hampshire senator Kelly -- -- joins us now.
With perhaps good morning -- senator good morning so what did you make of the president when he made that comment.
What I native it is this is that no question that we need to cut spending.
Get our fiscal house in order with sixteen trillion dollars in debt but his first answered everything is new taxes you know.
And when you think about it what happened in January he got 600 billion dollars in new revenue -- with -- spending cuts.
And now again he wants to raise taxes I think it's time for us to cut spending and what are the odds he was talking yesterday about how bad the sequester is.
The -- was the idea it was the invention of the White House.
Well it was I mean if you read Bob Woodward's book he said it was their idea.
And by the way -- today I'm going to be working with another group is a group of senators sent Bob McKee and from that.
Chairman of the house armed services committee were going to be introducing a bill.
That comes with alternative cuts to deal with seek restoration without new taxes you can do it by cutting spending and we'll do it in a responsible way.
For the president to come forward now do you fees -- to get something of desperation.
Or is this that there are responsible thing to do before march 1 is right upon us.
Well I actually think that if we have to deal with sequestration in terms of the impacts on our military.
Undermining our national security it remains a very dangerous world.
But again there are ways to do this without raising taxes we're introducing a bill today that will do that in fact it takes proposal from his own fiscal commission on how to do that -- -- leverage over him right now.
Well I think first of all he's got to come to the table and address this issue he's concerned obviously about sequestration we are too.
But new taxes or not the way to go why don't we really look at the big picture let's -- a budget.
Let's get a big picture here this is -- on the budget he did you miss that deadline.
Up for the fourth year in a row it's really outrageous and I hope the senate Democrats need it when they say they're actually gonna do a budget this time I serve on the Budget Committee I'm also a cosponsor of -- no budget no pay proposal it's time for us to do budget.
Right of course that means if they don't actually come up with a budget that congress will not be paid a let's move to something that's also close to -- -- your neck of the woods the New England -- regulation is what we're calling it.
They say that new regulations may lead to the collapse of the industry tell us about this.
Well this is really really sad and outrageous what -- was doing to our fisherman.
In New England in particular New Hampshire we have a lot of small fishermen who -- noble trade many of them have done this for generations.
And they have implemented new regulations that are essentially gonna put them out of business.
I've introduced a bill up and what these regulations do you should understand is.
They favor larger fisherman so it's another too big to fail deal from the government where it's really gonna put small fisherman out of business.
So I've introduced a bill that would.
Allow if we have a 15% job loss in the fisheries.
Two saying to know what that they -- implement the regulations that they have to strike a balance and make sure word that we allow these fishermen to continue to make a living.
Sure right -- staved -- -- he was on FOX & Friends Sunday listen.
This just comes on top of numerous other regulations that have been put into effect in the last thirty years.
As an example.
I believe I'll probably be able to fish -- boat three days in total for the -- tell -- this is a one size fits all management policy that's put into effect.
-- devastating consequences for some people and not so much for others.
Well they -- Diana.
It's -- of a -- today if he is it really really good guy just wants to make a living.
Small fishermen and really those small fishermen are being put out of business by no and it's it's an overreach it's outrageous and they really should do something about it that's why I've introduced this bill to stop them the real quick if senator -- Eagles nomination goes to the general said will you be somebody supporting him -- which you saw last week.
I am really deeply concerned about what I saw last week.
I think and I'm leaning no on this nomination and I will tell you why it was shocking to me when he was asked about our policy toward Iran.
That the fundamental one of the fundamental threats to our country -- that he didn't know that our policy was not containment under and that was shocking now.
He says that he's he's the president's policy of containment but that -- policy.
A senator I had always great to get your thoughts have a -- -- -- -- -- thank you to take care thanks for having me you -- -- to go over.
