And welcome to fox -- Sunday panel plus the bill -- the Liz Barr let us congressman Tom cotton and Juan Williams.
And let's talk some more we didn't talk in depth about -- president's State of the Union Address we talked about sequestration we're told a couple of things that one.
The president is gonna focus very much on the economy and the campaign theme of building the middle class and -- -- -- time budget cuts.
He's going to be talking about some new spending there is they'd like to call -- investment in education.
And energy and infrastructure and manufacturing.
And of course he's also -- -- lay out his his agenda gun control immigration reform climate change.
And some education proposals as well there -- so let's go around the table and got some views on that they'll start with you your thoughts about.
From what you hear the president's speech.
How potent political lay and the chances that he'll get much of -- -- congress.
And lecture about how potent politically that's the strike that all the pre briefing about what the president -- -- -- entirely about domestic policy.
His inaugural address was almost entirely about domestic policy.
There's awfully dangerous world out there and I'm myself and curious to see what he has to say.
About that more so I do to get some -- try to pivot to the economy I think they have -- sense in the White House my sense -- they don't tell -- all these things -- that that they've.
Immigration gun control finally have their positions on that that.
It with the economy and still in rough shape a negative fourth quarter.
That -- a little concerned that they're making the same mistake him in 2009 which is this a rough economy and they're talking about issues that are not economic issues I guess they'll -- at a Cardozo.
Let's hold that that I saw today that shows that you know the economy and jobs continue to be far and away the top two wishes and if you ask people about immigration and and gun control and climate change way down the list so here that's certainly true.
Aunt aunt and and the president's inaugural address almost exclusively.
Focused very little on the economy adrenaline farm policy on these social issues -- your thoughts about.
I was gonna say they weren't so happy with the coverage -- the inaugural address which.
You know in general.
Everyone.
Held up as this you know real liberal.
Speech and there was -- there was some mention of the economy and that speech but I think it.
Reporters were so surprised that he hit kind of change so hard and they -- gay -- so hard that that was that was the entire focus coming out of that speech and so I think.
This is a little bit of an effort to correct that -- you know make it clear that we are still very focused on the economy and that's why he feels like he needs to put forward some new proposals now.
I think.
At two a lot of Americans may be it might -- still feel like OK we've heard this you know speech four fax from.
And given the fighting that's been going on on Capitol Hill over the sequestration and cutting spending and all of that.
It.
Might seem like well okay.
What chance does any of this have -- getting through but -- Think obviously they still feel -- they need to put some some things on the table that make it seem like they still have new ideas about the economy and you want to reach out in a class Americans.
Congressman -- from what you hear.
About what he's gonna cite your reaction.
-- -- I hear a newcomer to watch enemies like.
We don't care about the -- we were you get them we get this then and now we want to get your reaction the speech as an anti climate.
I had it is surprising it sounds like the state of the union is going to have very little focus at all on national security foreign policy on the inauguration.
Address.
Was the same way the president said the inaugural that -- ending a decade of war.
Chris wars are not movies they don't just end there either one or their lost unfortunately the president is taking action right now.
In places like Afghanistan are threatening the progress you've made there and threatening a loss and Afghanistan.
Or for instance in Syria you know.
He was reported last week that he overrode the decision to have a secretary of defense and state and CIA director and Director of National Intelligence -- to -- Syrian opposition there cost intervening in -- -- like Syria but there are some costs not intervening we shall have basher Al -- propped up.
Here's our lands closest ally who supports has lost one of Israel's worst enemies and we have a radicalization of the opposition in Syria.
So I'm right now alarmed that there's not going to be more talk about national security in the state of the union but we'll see what the reality as this -- -- -- spin -- on Tuesday night.
Let me just ask you one quick questions or bring in -- this idea of new spending and they say that it's going to be paid for that they'll have cuts that'll be revenue neutral.
At at a time when we've got this huge deficit out.
Well I mean we've had a four year experience.
And centralized government planning trying to produce economic growth and always done really -- add six trillion dollars to our national debt.
Which is a huge -- on economic growth.
So what we need is tax reform that -- that at least a lower rates -- wind.
Less government spending so there's more capital available on the private sector for investment and for growth not more big government programs of the congress and that -- failed over the last four -- Want.
I think we accomplished a lot of lists where is keeping us out of -- serious depression we're being number one but anyway.
In terms of the state of the union I think this has to be a bolder speech to work custom tune in terms of formal addresses the president has made to the congress.
I don't really remember the first four.
I mean is -- what I remember his.
Things like people yelling out you lie -- Sam Alito.
Mouthing that's not true remember all that but I don't every what did pres Obama I think this time if he picks up on the inaugural address.
He's got to be strong take the fight to the GOP.
And what that means is I think that he's going to say look I've got about a hundred days in my second term.
That's prime time for me to get something done I'm going to the American people and I'm speaking to you here today about those issues I would guess number one on that would be let's get immigration done.
Here's something where we can work together let's make it happen I think he has an advantage.
In terms of the narrative on gun control maybe not with regard to assault weapons but -- with regard to more thorough background checks on people.
I think he's gonna have to say something about climate change to prove to appease his base on the far left the that the green community in this -- which is very disappointed.
In the president.
And when it comes to spending I think that the big issue here is that there is concern in the country about poverty and about education so you're gonna hear about pell grants I think.
And then I think you're also going to hear him say.
That when you really look at these cuts despite bill in the congress with concern about the fans.
You gotta think about the impact it has on the little guy on the working class in this country.
And why the GOP so intent on protecting the -- so he's gonna take that fight in a very aggressive manner I think in this state of the union and I think it's more likely be memorable.
Folks -- in Washington would you have this much talked about a speech that hasn't yet been given.
