Good morning welcome back to the political insiders on Java -- the day here in New York -- Packard -- and we have our partner Doug shown.
Manning the Florida desk of the political insiders how are you today -- John I'm doing fine and all I can say is it isn't dead when.
Things that are 75 and sunny down here -- Well we have a lot of things to discuss today the first political news broke around 5 AM this morning.
Which is that the Pope is resigning unprecedented in the modern -- -- And the -- Yeah the Pope will leave office on February 28 there will be a new conclave to pick the new Pope crawling in March.
And if we want to talk about bare knuckle politics which we try to talk about on this show.
I think what goes on in a papal conclave is real politics it's got to be -- is coming most interest in mobile and of course.
We rarely ever hear anything because nothing good -- so -- But it's and leaves a lot of great novels and Doug go ahead -- No I was just gonna say.
I've always loved the symbolism of women new Pope is selective what does it -- -- you only -- white smoke coming out right.
Black smoke at the end of every day if they don't have a new Pope and then white smoke signifies a new Pope yes OK and then the Pope by the way I've been over if you've all been you.
That when the Pope has selected.
And he's fitted for his assessments and they put him for a few minutes in a room off of the Sistine Chapel.
Call the room of tears.
For the new -- to sit by himself for a few minutes and cry over what his life will now be like for the rest of his life.
As it is not a life of great grand jury it's a life of huge responsibility.
And power and for our politics this does have ramifications.
On.
Issues have come up and and our political campaigns like abortion.
Health care euthanasia.
Senior care all this stuff the Catholic Church has a strong position and the new Pope will have a big say enough.
You know.
It'll be interesting to see them I assume they'll continue in the -- the -- would -- and -- the tradition amount of talent.
And so this possibility Lebanon Hariri -- -- in America.
For a South America or south or an African known as the there the Catholic Church demographically internationally things yeah.
-- now back to our politics the big news.
Happening as we speak is Lindsey Graham Republican senator from your home state of South Carolina.
Really flexing his muscles saying I'm putting a hold for the time being on the -- -- nomination.
And maybe Brandon -- so let's discuss -- -- and Brennan as of Monday morning at 1033.
Where our way.
Well that as far as I read this morning I mean in all Lou -- see my ranking minority leader.
Minority ranking leader on armed services says he's been hindered us in you know it's -- filibuster.
Graham is -- for filibuster putting a hold on.
Until we get all more information -- gauzy morning you know what happened now that we know what we settle political insiders two weeks ago.
After Secretary Clinton -- testimony.
But there seem to be an apps and president here and now we know that he took no phone calls other than this pre scheduled meeting.
At 515 -- fifteen minutes -- was no contact between the president the secretary of state.
Who does the the secretary -- and defensemen and Panetta and and and as far as we know Panetta says he had no contact with the White House in the NSA.
So would lead you to believe that we have said before but there was chaos going on -- and others are demanding an explanation.
This doesn't seem to go away the Democrats on the other hand Lebanon say they're gonna push the boat now -- -- they they -- they may even try to as early as tomorrow.
In community and or Delaware or Delaware -- the media in this story on the truth finally coming out certain Ben Ghazi why isn't there someone in the media -- going after the start.
John this is a huge issue -- and I would.
Love to get -- in Pat's reaction particularly packed because he's probably of the three of -- and singularly on fox.
Being on the lead on this this aspect of it let me speak to it.
The media had confirmed.
Brandon and certainly hagel weeks ago.
It had dismissed Ben Ghazi after secretary Clinton's testimony.
Said that her testimony.
And resolve every issue.
And I think we would all agree and our own way that secretary Clinton's.
Testimony however compelling it may have been.
Didn't really answer a lot of questions.
And more to the point secretary.
Hagel is not secretary hagel.
Mr.
Brennan is not head of the CIA there are huge unanswered questions.
About our policy on drums I still think.
That Brennan will be confirmed and I think fatal for the reasons you were suggesting John is in real in deep trouble but the larger issue.
Is the media and indeed the political class has been MIA out all these issues and regardless of where you come out.
I think it is a very large question you're raising about why the narrative has not included John the issues you and -- Branch and the narrative originally that we thought was we we thought -- that bet that did the night of September 11 when -- -- was unfolding that the administration was.
Not only -- chaos but they were monitoring.
From office overhead live time satellite.
Viewing this thing not doing all they could to rescue the ambassador in the -- As they watch this thing unfold that's what we thought now we discovered just the opposite they're asleep at the switch they're not doing their job they're not how can you not beat.
Walking to each other well this is -- have been what I can't understand is presences engaged tonight from President Carter when we room hostage crisis.
-- prolonged primary up to the very end he was involved everyday for hours and hours.
On this problem the notion.
Did you have an American embassy under attack.
And the president is all it is it is in his quarters I don't know watching basketball getting ready for its -- -- -- in Las Vegas.
Now I understand what the sixty minutes pay -- was about.
It was having Secretary Clinton try to cover what is the real scandal -- God's.
That the president wasn't apparently engage in neither war a lot of his you know -- you remember the summer of -- when Reagan was president and some planes were shot down he was.
And he was us having a nap or something and that in -- mob and the many -- crazy.
This is back to your question and -- dog just pointed out about the media narrative.
And what's happening here we have a press that believes its job is to protect this president and all -- Including the truth.
And I have said this -- gave a speech in the poll saying this -- now become the single greatest threat to American democracy a press that decides not merely to decide who are you must vote for.
But a press decides that it will decide which -- information in truth you're allowed to hear not here.
This coverage of an eagle and Brendan nominations is abysmal we have hateful had a disastrous one which everyone did you talk about.
Brendan the other day said there have been no collateral damage at all.
Not a single collateral casualty -- civilian mother on the drone attacks from there are hundreds I mean he's a man involved with the leaking what I'm -- -- lying.
This is will -- -- happen now in politics.
And the -- this is I know what subject dense bearish do you both feel very strongly about.
-- -- -- With the lack of leadership in this country we have.
People in office there are many Democrats who know privately and upset try to -- deal has no business being secretary of defense and they're gonna -- in lockstep.
Because he no longer believe.
That their responsibilities the country it is the party first.
Just as the Republicans under bush in world war in their White House this is abuses Doug caught every utterly -- Yeah yeah you know I wanna pick up -- pat said.
As we sit here and I listen to pat John and John -- very coherent analysis and narrative what's missing is a Republican narrative.
They don't have an argument I haven't heard anyone on the Republican side make is coherent.
An argument her case as -- -- has made.
On campaign or political insiders it was campaign insiders when he began -- now political insiders yesterday and today.
And bottom -- the Republicans don't have a narrative which allows the president.
Effectively free rein.
To pursue policies and approaches.
That I believe are not necessarily fully explained or fully vetted or fully review it after the airport and -- -- -- basically.
Isn't a Republican I can think of a senator would have to be probably on the foreign relations committee.
There isn't one with gravitas you can go on the shows the one they put on all -- time is McCain.
And he is really the wrong guy to -- prosecute this issue.
-- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- That the president may propose yours considering seriously unilateral cuts in our nuclear arsenal without any reciprocal.
-- or are are drop backs by this by the Russians.
The Chinese and we have a -- developing nuclear weapon and we're gonna just unilaterally cut back.
Rehab the difference and -- policy.
Which we pointed out on this show.
Of all -- both last few weeks where does the Secretary.
Clinton secretary Panetta clearly say Iran as a crisis problem.
We have mr.
Siegel who said -- was.
An article dugout yesterday saying the problem the Middle East nuclear threat is Israel not Iran.
And we have any and all of the Jewish organizations or who liberal groups are supporting.
People will not stand up for their principles here and we have an administration -- be -- random policy.
Is clearly it -- a source of great chaos as -- as the Syrian policy but the media doesn't talk about any of this.
-- -- -- she's -- you and Doug did you see senator Ben Carden Democrat Merrill and his comments about.
Hey -- where he admitted hagel really wasn't his choice but he vote form anyway.
Eight -- I did see it John and given that -- was the principal author of the magnets keep bill.
To demand basic retribution.
From the Russians for their outrageous.
Trichet treatment of the lawyer firm -- mr.
brouder from America.
Hermitage capital.
And and and to hold the Russian elite accountable.
Given that he feels that way it is amazing to me.
That he would be able to vote for -- Chuck Hagel what pat.
Was alluding to John and you've spoken to is a whole issue of leadership or -- just integrity in in in politics -- I don't think if I was -- senator.
I could vote for Chuck Hagel given the way I think about the world it would not really be something I -- do and now we have that you just said -- we have.
Pardon why no one there aren't a lot of information background people -- -- about how said he was by this nominee.
We have Chuck Schumer who is the quote from this senate defender of Israel except when -- complex.
With his role as leader of the Democratic Party.
What the president lets -- get on the table.
These people sacrificed their principles of the things they are you more proponents say a partisan politics -- read their voter registration cards.
Before in both parties before they there all of them to defend the cut -- court.
We're gonna continue on that point with pat -- Doug -- in Florida on child -- local insiders will be right back.
-- welcome back on the job Ogunleye -- -- alum Doug shown or hair on political insiders.
At tomorrow night.
Here on foxnews.com.
We're gonna have live coverage of the state of the union.
At 850.
That's ten minutes and nine East Coast time tomorrow night Harris Faulkner is hosting.
And you can get in on the discussion in the live chat.
Right here at foxnews.com.
Slash SOT it which stands for state of the union.
And the state of the union pat and Doug is tomorrow night with senator Marco Rubio giving the Republican.
-- bottle in both English and Spanish afterwards.
We're hearing all sorts -- leaks from the White House about what the president's gonna say including more spending.
On infrastructure.
And education and so called middle class investments.
And then he's also gonna talk whether debt reduction.
How can you have both unless you have more tax revenue and that's really what's.
-- -- what happens at the democratic party's vision the Republicans like idiots to keep him.
A tax increase got nothing in return in spending and now of course there's going to be more.
In this is because they had no position emerge total retreat indeed there are no normal total last minutes -- -- led by.
Mitch McConnell -- anyway so I'm gonna wanted to get him but the Republican leadership is all will.
That complete you know what wouldn't say probably not but foreign policy it's gonna continue to press also give up and get up and attacked sequestering.
Is so he's got -- saying well I don't.
-- what we know from Bob Woodward's book.
Who recommended -- who suggested made the deal.
He's won the proposed sequestering -- -- The leadership from both parties and both parties voted for now no one has any ownership public we're gonna have massive cuts.
Across the board particularly in defense where it's more defense cutting the domestic.
Spending and the president wants more spending -- -- spending on.
Real.
Research medical research.
Important infrastructure that was president wants more of these you don't green projects -- More as we learned this stimulus Josh political -- for an out the window contributor and and so forth but the president is gonna make his case tomorrow.
-- that in the Republicans not only is rubio speaking of Rand Paul is speaking for the Tea Party we have to.
-- that again so Doug what personal what do you think the president's gonna.
Say any thing that connects with people -- about how to grow the economy cure our debt problem through growth it.
John I'm smiling because.
For the first time in pat talked about this yesterday on political insiders the president is going to join the issue of jobs economic growth.
And revitalizing.
What is still more -- last quarter shrinking.
Economy he hadn't done that didn't do it in the inaugural and he's gonna do it but he's -- use stimulus.
He's -- -- more revenue.
And he's gonna talk about investment to do it which -- the same themes he's used before.
It is set of themes that are.
-- popular with some but certainly not all.
Americans.
And it'll be very curious to me to see -- Marco Rubio is able to respond.
Within inclusive message that emphasizes.
Optimism growth.
Low taxes.
Less regulation.
And a revitalized growing economy -- the Republicans need a narrative and John let your Republican you've been America Republican caucus I dare say there is not a Republican narrative -- -- and you know yesterday we were ending our show on fox.
News channel.
And we didn't have time to get into -- but you did raise Doug Jack Kemp as a member of the house Republican who -- ultimately very influential Republican.
Who always preached pro growth.
Initiatives and also reaching out to minorities trying to help absolutely -- called himself laid bleeding hard conservatively and and there that's a great expression.
Mobile we have is let me just to two point one -- -- -- -- about.
President not addressed in this -- -- had no interest in world policies he really president you know real interest and and let's face it.
And what's happened -- -- what the reason -- because of pew poll came out.
I'm sure the White House polling showing the same thing.
Showing that the -- Jim did he let out the inaugural.
Global warming and immigration.
Guns -- in global warming at the bottom of the bottom five in three of applied bottom.
I don't know fifteen medical infrastructure spending right -- Iraq and and at the top what do people care about the economy jobs.
Debt deficit the debt when we have to do.
And in Social Security things he never talks about things he never speaks of -- -- will.
-- the Republican side we have his real will be need to talk about that -- brewing civil war.
Being which -- been sparked by push back to our colleague on fox.
Karl Rove -- is -- -- crossroads a group that spent three over 3400 million dollars it was a disaster in the election.
Claiming that they're gonna pick better candidates is -- there but they're all there war.
None -- it was about their communication irritability could put a message.
There aren't going to leave Karl Rove says it's all body can Murdoch there are fourteen other races the Republicans wall.
Where they had a chance of one point -- establishment candidates for the most part of what's happened is a grassroots is going crazy every rover crossroads in corner.
This combination of corn and and -- wrote about society they're gonna pick the candidates.
And it's in the civil war I'm afraid is Malkin split the Republican Party not only the basis of moving forward with the issues.
But a lot of personal politics of the curious to hear what you job -- -- Republican Doug thank you.
What are my thing and I'd rather -- -- but my own thought is there are a lot of donors who give give a lot of money to Romney to crossroads to the Republican Party.
In the last year hoping not only to win the presidency but take over the senate.
We lost seats in the senate we -- win the White House seats with a loss -- we have lost states.
And I would think these donors would say I'm not giving any more until this whole group is running the Republican establishment including rove are out why keep.
The same manager of a losing team year after year dog.
Well look.
I -- as we have discussed both publicly and privately.
-- touch with a number of big donors and bottlers.
And the level of frustration.
That they have felt since the election.
Is I think topple ball.
And it's two reasons obviously when he's a lot better than losing but when you go down and you tell people.
That you're gonna win you're gonna win the senate when the presidency.
And didn't -- happening.
And it doesn't happen by clear and convincing margins.
It's very hard to then write a very large six -- some case seven figure track.
When you have no idea what the money's being used for.
And bottom line there's no accountability and what you know for certain is that you didn't yet at least any return.
On what is a very very substantial investment so.
John I suspect.
That a lot of those donors will come back in one form or another but I'd be equally surprised if there was not a demean you wish him in the amount of money that's given for the maternal -- well this should been.
And you know we talked at the end of the election cycle and -- couple weeks after about the mysterious 152.
Million dollars that was spent late in the campaign.
On work get out the vote and this computer program.
A lot of that went.
To the same.
Two companies founded -- -- chief of staff that are outlined his previous his chief of staff and Larsson moved from Minnesota there.
Recreation and and we thought someone from Romney's.
Political -- -- exactly and someone should challenge the leadership -- the GO pay at the RNC meeting in Charlotte one previous was gonna run.
No one ran against sunlight he got -- -- This -- don't.
Pierre McConnell Plavix I look at a party is is that we keep bringing you keep reelecting the same people and -- in and Karl Rove is different part called stupid party but.
The establishment of the consultant lobbyist establishment.
The nexus industrial complex if you will.
In the Republican Party runs it and that's what makes a grassroots unhappy and what you don't have reeling in leader of an art particularly big vision -- -- -- a little bit tomorrow.
-- Our viewers you out there are really sharpen ahead of the game -- me read two of your comments from isn't anyone listening.
The president will tell us how he just got things almost back to normal since bush.
But now we are slipping back again because of the Republican Party.
Well that's true because two weeks ago when he came out.
That the economy was slipping backwards -- they came out right away Jay Carney the white house Press Secretary says the republicans' fault.
Because there was defense spending.
Down 22%.
In December -- but the Republicans in the house would make a deal.
And that's why the economy -- the president was the advocate for cutting defense demanded right of the only team he's wanted to cut is exactly.
By now.
Johnny sage proving he is a -- man says there are no cuts in the budget control -- spending goes up every year as it always does.
And that is true really arguing over.
Cutting the rate of spending increases dog.
-- -- -- -- But but but again I go back John to where we work.
There is no alternative Republican narrative.
There is no here is our plan we think it's fair we think it's inclusive.
We think it'll slow the rate of growth in spending cut some programs.
Reform defense cut entitlements but most importantly promote growth.
Promote equity and promote fairness and so I why not send -- is that why not -- bowl easily did all right.
But the you don't want the Republicans can get up and say to voters would vote for Obama remember you did not when he -- -- Which uses as when U -- war is this what you wanted his look his agenda which is very far left as as a foreign policy.
Is this what you wanted.
To centrist voters I don't think so but is if you just said -- the republicans' inability to fight to have inherited -- they are still paralysis.
And they are it's it's really they're really on their way to becoming the wings you don't let let let me make a brief point.
With John you mentioned working people poor people.
-- -- People who been hurt by this payroll tax increase our working people who literally have less money in their paychecks.
Each week each month.
Have you heard Republicans.
Come back to talk about the impact.
On working people you haven't heard a word every working person that I talked to -- on a fixed income -- paycheck.
He's been hurt.
They are hostile.
Two Obama and the Democrats for what happened but they have no idea what Barack Obama to -- -- while the administration continues to support the Fed policy.
All keeping interest rates -- zero which means people on fixed incomes.
Don't get any money and have been in -- -- nobody cares about people are actually suffering it's all ball washing.
And how they're all out and what their daughter's like five pat great job today Doug from Florida thanks so much great job you see -- New York next weekend you're absolutely we will be back the political insiders are on the Fox News Channel 530 this coming Sunday and back here on foxnews.com.
