-- joined now in the studio to talk about all of this by David Alaska who is director of communications.
At the New York State Republican Party and John Ringo was president and CEO of -- consulting to deceive us gentlemen -- -- it.
David first of all let's let's go to the response before we go to the actual speech Marco Rubio an interesting choice and clearly.
An effort to putting even more in the spotlight than he already it.
Is absolutely -- you know the Republican Party has had its issues with Latino and Hispanic community in this past election cycle so what is important showcase the fact that.
We as a party do have a lot of bright young up and coming minority leaders Ted -- in Texas is another.
And if you look at statewide elected officials the Republican Party actually has more Hispanic official Hispanic elected officials and the Democratic Party doesn't.
So this is an element of our party that we should be putting out in the forefront senator rubio I think he's a great party spokesman.
-- John -- from the president's point of view a lot of people criticize him a lot of on the right -- -- they viewed as a pen and extraordinarily progressive.
You think we're getting him more of the same from him -- do you think he'll back off a little bit from that.
Very bold and ambitious suite that is laid out in the know what.
I think -- -- here.
Equally ambitious speech and -- I I think he was teeing it up for this they view this as it is.
Is the inaugural speech in the state of the union speeches as to parts of the same effort is my understanding and I think you look he's got a progressive agenda that he wants to pursue.
And I you know good for him -- -- a lot of us wished for more than the first term.
I think we're gonna see an argument for another question is does that actually get passes to get through congress -- a whole other deal.
But in the fact that he's talked about gun control for example and just you know gone right for that.
It indicates to me he's not scared of pushing and aggressively progressive agenda yet that dating game you think we're gonna hear more of the same from the president and what shouldn't be.
Senator rubio his response if that is the case.
Right well you know I think you're right and we are going to hear more -- progressive agenda from the president.
But if that is the case he has his priorities backwards.
And you know here's what senator rubio -- we'll say here's what the president should say you know American economy is still on the brink of disaster.
We just experienced negative growth in the fourth quarter point -- what that means is that.
-- a quarter of negative growth and we're officially a double dip recession there's no denying it.
The president's priority has to be jobs and economic growth it was a progressive agenda -- gun control if -- gay marriage.
But there's a time and a place for his priority front and center in the State of the Union Address has to be it unemployment -- -- bloodless -- priority for years the problem is Republicans in the blocking it in the -- to the Republican Party would have more massive cuts and you know austerity.
A soft economy is like putting a Mal -- patient on a starvation diet it's about the worst possible thing you can do.
And yet all we hear from Republicans is massive massive cuts.
And massive tax cuts and Vietnam all four cuts on an ongoing basis over the long term but in the immediate.
It -- there there's just no plant from her.
Look at this or if it's jobs and the economy has been the president's priority -- first term as you said I mean well he's really done one heck of a job.
Tomorrow night when he gives a speech will be seven point 9% in America seven point 8% think he took office well then what you did but.
Stand -- people he passed and the democratic congress passed 800 billion dollars worth of stimulus spending and they told us when they passed it.
That in 2012 you know -- is -- source of this but had to be passed today they -- -- -- -- that unemployment would stabilize at 5% but here's.
The thing remember the last month of the Bush Administration lost 741000.
And unemployment went up 10% if you look at the job creation since then it's actually been pretty good is -- good enough.
Heck no but more tax cuts for the wealthy and more austerity measures that are of the worst possible that we could -- right now I mean we were talking a baseball before.
Now imagine if he'd come in and there were three.
Three men on the basis and you out of -- single I mean you got to give the earned run for part of that.
Bad economy initially to bush -- now I mean you know he he he's the president and yeah he's got to take responsibility there's no two ways about it but I do think that we have to be fair -- -- the unemployment rate now vs the 10% it's a heck of an improvement there's a long way to go part of our lives about a very quick the last woods -- It is surely I'll I'll I'll -- -- the point that he did inherit a mess but after four and a half years those excuses are really wearing thin and if -- -- uses the word inherit his State of the Union Address I think the road you're gonna hear from this country -- -- audible no matter where.
All right David Alaska director of communications the New York State Republican Party and -- -- -- President and CEO of clinical consulting going to see buttons are -- -- -- time but a lot of breaking news with the Pope etc.
to the Vatican -- great to see you both are.
