-- about the Republican response and the president's State of the Union Address joining me now the Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell.

Of Kentucky senator thanks for being here it's gonna be your -- your thoughts of tonight obviously -- -- from Jay Carney.

What do you think the president will bring tonight and what do you expect.

-- what we anticipated another brother partisan far left.

Challenge.

To a congress that he doesn't fully control.

I hope to -- several occasions and investors say the president moved to the political slaughter.

So that we could solve the transcendent.

Problem of our era which -- spending and a completely and totally out of control I don't anticipate he's gonna say much about about.

And that's a disappointment.

Now house Democrats say there are introducing a plan.

This week to replace.

The sequester here's what senator Reid said about that today later this week -- -- a plan.

Temporary place sequestered for the balance approach the American people want and deserve.

The bills being drafted -- -- -- amounts of revenues and cuts.

Because Democrats believe the right -- way to reduce the deficit.

The target waste and abuse by -- Smart spending gets.

The closing tax loopholes and asking will we as Americans to contribute.

That was at the Ohio -- earlier today earlier also we heard from speaker Boehner on potential tax increases and he said this the president's gotten his revenue.

Already gotten -- period.

The other.

He figures correct command -- operational wall in the bush tax cuts expired.

-- midnight edition of the 31 the president got some of the -- -- -- looking for and he got them on high income people not by anybody's vote but because the law bars.

The tax issue is over we made a commitment Brad.

Back in August of 2011.

That we would retrieve two point one trillion -- -- spending reductions.

No -- spending reductions.

Over the next ten years and now the president's suggestion that we walk away from an in year one.

It's completely inappropriate.

The government has a spending problem we don't have this problem because we tax too little follow his poll tested tax cuts that there -- a tax increase is that there are recommending.

We have little or no impact on the real problem was just that we are spending an astronomical amount of money every single your -- -- years of trillion dollar and -- -- When.

You get to the point that the sequester gets in place and you have.

And across the board cut including.

In defense and and I -- furloughs would start to happen and people would be getting laid off many -- Republican districts across the country in districts all over the place.

They'll be a lot of pressure.

Are Republicans politically.

Willing to.

Hold up under that pressure I wanted to make this spending point.

The sequester was the president chided himself I was in the negotiations with them -- -- that he -- -- -- that we -- the sequester.

To achieve the spending reductions without -- encouraged.

If the so called super committee fails.

And it did -- Two then turn around to the American people and so we really didn't mean it.

Little over -- a year later.

Those strikes and it is completely unacceptable.

Now the way the sequester -- -- -- spending reductions.

No one -- I don't like.

But we indicated we were -- -- reduce spending without raising taxes.

For this amount.

And this year there were willing to talk about how to do that a but the president's already gotten a tax -- that -- asked for.

Balances geography he ought to talk about balance -- balance would be the couple that tax -- that he got at the end of the year with spending -- But two months later that the law gonna.

Look into the crystal ball if you don't hear that in -- expecting a more partisan speech tonight.

March sounds like it's going to be trench warfare up on Capitol Hill.

What bush the president would move to the political center and -- you know we've run into this problem Tom and Tom again have a hard time turning off of the campaign is just sort of continues.

-- definitely.

If the president really wanted to get an outcome here if you wanted to help work with us to reduce spending as we promised the American people we would.

It would not be a great idea could be making the kind of speech we anticipate is gonna make tonight.

So hopefully after the -- Dixon at the end of the month which it will house -- indicated no matter what the senate does they're not gonna.

We'll have another chance.

To see if the president will be willing to them to keep the commitment that we made the American people to receive a trip to achieve this amount of spending reduction.

In the first year there are better ways to do it.

And I hope -- talk to us about how to do -- no matter was.

Couple other quick things immigration -- where does -- stand.

In your view.

In the senate speaker Boehner spoke highly about the possibilities of getting something through and has to -- I'm hopeful we we have a group of four.

Republicans and four Democrats working together in the senate.

General -- and Senator McCain in that group.

We believe there's a reasonable chance they can come together about a comprehensive immigration reform bill concussion -- -- Class thing Chuck Hagel.

Very controversial nomination.

Bush spent a lot of time talking about believe the armed services committee reported him out.

Today and will be dealing with a nomination on the -- -- the majority leader that I trouble and a -- -- his third.

A lot of opposition very controversial nomination -- -- accomplished.

I was in the -- -- now -- -- and -- senator thank you very much for somebody thank you.
