-- college controversy in West Virginia is now getting national attention students and parents at west Liberty University.

Questioning a political science professor who decided to hand out -- course assignment telling students what sources they can and cannot use in their research.

She suggests to them that outlets like the New York Times the BBC and the Huffington Post are all great.

But -- says.

Don't use the onion which -- parity.

Or Fox News.

Her exact words the tagline Fox News makes me cringe.

Please do not subjecting me to the biased news station I would almost rather exchange rates I would almost you rather.

Print off an article from the onion.

-- live now as Robin -- -- President of west Liberty University mr.

-- -- thank you very much for being here so this is a professor at your university by the name of Stephanie wolf.

And Stephanie clearly has a problem with with Fox News.

Do you.

Will -- well first of the day Megan no.

You know the purpose of a of a college is -- up.

Is to have students go out and and and seek as much information as they can about whatever topic that there.

That they're researching and have them and have them form their own opinions and then perhaps to be challenged on this opinions.

But this is a case where where we obviously have a concern because.

As much as we will protect the academic freedom of the professor will also protect the academic freedom.

Of our students to -- find as many sources as possible so.

Obviously we were we were concerned.

Yeah because this is it even if if you love fox -- you hate Fox News.

-- this person has -- closed it as an option for her students in it and this politics journal.

Which she says is designed to promote critical thinking skills increase your understanding and knowledge of politics.

Allow you to gain a broader understanding of the world around you and expand your ability to analyze local national international events.

But apparently ms.

wolf only wants a certain perspective.

For the students in in pursuing.

That knowledge and she all the things that she approves.

There -- there is not won fair and balanced organization on there I mean hopping to both in the near times the BB CA.

Your thoughts on on that.

Well obviously.

Obviously the the promise that she laid out in the beginning ever syllabus.

Is contradicted later on where she says.

Where she makes the comment they that you know well we we just want -- to look at this certain set of research articles now of course the syllabus says that that that these are suggested.

But -- in big bold print it says do not use Fox News and obviously as I indicated before that's that's that.

That's a real problem.

You know from what I understand she's actually come back now and told -- class that they -- use whatever they want but.

But I think as as someone -- -- is -- in the classroom that creates quite a chilling effect.

Up on the students in that classroom who should be encouraged to go out and find as many sources as they pot as they possibly -- representing as many different viewpoints that.

That's the -- they haven't -- these students gonna feel now that they know professor Wolfe and her feelings about this is fine she is needle like fox now the news even though we're the number one.

Used to the channel all of cable news that's why should we don't need her.

But but to sort of judge everybody all the millions of Americans who do like it and watch it entrusted.

And say she can't even have that like none of her students are even allowed to think about Fox News or subject her to it.

Shows a real close mindedness and -- Well I I I.

I don't I don't disagree in the night I like as I indicated I think she they should be allowed look at as many sources possible she gonna get I don't.

-- Is she gonna get hired -- -- going to be a distant whenever she is at right now will personal that's that you that this is still an ongoing it's still an ongoing situation I will say that.

She's a she's a temporary professor they came and our our our regular professor that teaches political science.

Caught got caught out of the country because his father was ill and she was hired on a one year contract.

And so and so I I -- I can't comment on now on on specific personnel issues right now.

But but can I ask you this at the students in her class wind up getting.

Lower grade than they think they're entitled to because they do wind up citing Fox News.

Let's say Jennifer Griffin does some great report added the Pentagon and they want to refer to it.

If they do that and they feel they've been marked down can they come to you and say.

Sir I think professor wolf hasn't quite lived up to her promise on her upon her reversal.

Well would let it be known that they can first of all go to the chair of the department and they can go to the dean and then they think they can go to the probe Austin and and my office to.

To seek satisfaction they felt like they've been on a fairly treated in their classroom as we would with any student felt that they've been entry unfairly treated in their classroom.

We've got to take up the grammar before they got you got you I mean you know and you're gonna bash on fox you should at least get the -- -- I don't understand.

Please -- not subject near the -- -- I would almost you rather print off an article from the onion I mean really there should be some proof reading in these materials -- don't you agree.

I certainly agree and now we'll go back and re -- her paper that's can't get interestingly.

You know enough for -- -- and she apparently told a local.

Station Dave Bloomquist at WW BA right specifically she told him that she did not that she did not tell the class not to use Fox News she said it.

Repeatedly to him and look at that you can look at her own course materials quote do not use Fox News so.

There's a question about her level of honesty.

Certainly -- you so much your standup guy for coming on and he -- thank you Bradley make Arnault the best.
