And welcome back to on the hunt with Jonathan Hunt I'm Mike -- -- the -- -- subbing for Jonathan Hunt.
And as Yunel Pope Benedict is stepping down we're gonna get a new Pope who is soon here is -- Zia.
Conclave does everything it needs to do and a guy who knows a lot about this and he's gonna look at it from the -- from the aspect of the Latin American world.
Is it all pal of mine from Miami Rick Sanchez.
Finally good to talk with you since you've been -- hooked up with us here Fox News -- with foxnews.com my Latino Rick.
What are we to see from a new open a new doctor.
Well first I have to ask you -- jealous you're right now because you are looking at your.
Old stomping grounds behind me right now.
You know I'm OK I like the cold I did death so many years in -- -- have a couple of Summers in Baghdad you'll wonder -- you'll welcome the winner.
Don't think -- is good.
-- they get it there is good yeah.
Well you know we are north bay village that's where you and I Michael we should share with viewers that you and I used to work together here not far from here.
We could probably throw a -- -- the building where we work together down here -- channel seven.
That I -- is behind me the whole nine yards -- -- really call it from time to time you would actually go out under this part of the neighborhood here and even.
Have an alcoholic beverage or maybe even adults strong drink from time to time with its.
-- dirty it's a dirty rumor I only go to church but if you hit hit hit hit hit hit it created -- Jared shirts.
-- listen here here's what I did I've put together this up up that which I think is significant I think it's important.
Every once in awhile things just need to be said you know -- a Catholic -- -- as a Catholic I've always wondered why it is.
That our church has continued to have a tough part tough time I should say it.
More men for the priesthood and -- you start to look at the numbers you start to look at you know the history of this and they wonder why it is.
And now we have I think an.
Coming up in our church to have somebody come in and really look at this and say well should we continue to have this.
Seemingly antiquated rule that says priests are not allowed to marry and when we do that don't lead dwindle the don't we dwindled the pool don't -- put in the situation put us put ourselves in a situation where we're -- -- ourselves to a certain.
Part of the population and not a -- well you know not accepting everybody Elian did -- is Mike and I and I think at -- we need to look at.
I think there's an upside of that -- I think the reason that the celibacy was was included in the church doctrine was not really hey you know as it's marketed to you can have a one on one relationship with god you can focus all your attention on scripture it was to prevent nepotism in the church do you disagree.
If you think of my economic summit I mean there was that the by the way there was a time and -- were married and I think there was also a time.
When the church realize that having so many priests literally.
And keep with them everything they had including you know -- They're they're they're children and their wives and you know -- estates.
You know -- -- that churches essentially said you take about poverty and everything you have belongs to us and that's a good thing I think.
And I think these are things that they're gonna eventually be able to figure out but you can't avoid the demographic issue.
And the fact is that what has happened is the churches interestingly enough.
Become a place that is -- safe space for many gay men who have gone on to become priests many of them fantastic good priests by the way.
But as you look at it you start looking at the demographics and you start wondering.
If this is -- think about this this is gonna become a problem.
For the Catholic church and here's why here's what I write in my column gays have fought for -- and won the right.
Not to be discriminated against in the work what in the workplace.
And -- a world where homosexuals no longer need to hide in the shadows and that's their lives anymore.
They can now hold any professional position in the workplace being a priest for them.
No longer is the preferred option it's merely one of many that's important because just move -- go go ahead.
Well -- he seems that you're concluding that day that a lot of -- ahead for the priesthood.
As a means of avoiding.
Their own troubles sexuality -- own conflicts with -- with what they feel inside.
Not even -- we don't even have to label it we just have to say it's a safe space it's a comfortable place.
Listen you know a -- -- -- essentially wasn't interest that in getting married.
At least not the way traditionally gay lifestyles -- lived in the United States.
That's my point things are changing now now they -- being gay in the public they don't necessarily have to depend.
On the Catholic Church -- the priesthood for that job and I guess what I'm saying in a roundabout way is.
That's gonna create a problem for the Catholic Church in and of itself in mad it would be harder to attract candidates for the priesthood.
Well and clearly there -- in trouble problem in the Catholic Church in regards to sexuality.
Thinking you conclude from all of this that a sexuality and of itself.
Is a deviant form of sexuality and that's why we ultimately end up with these problems a sexual abuse among clergy.
I wouldn't conclude that but I'd say it's an underpinning of the argument because what I'm saying is that I think the church and and of itself and allowing gay.
I mean in allowing men who aren't who are married.
To join the priest would it would certainly make the pool bit bigger.
And in and of itself think about it in and of itself.
Why are we allowing.
You know -- someone.
Hot item would have loved to have considered it.
But -- I got married early on in my life and it immediately took away that possibility.
And maybe there's other people out there that way I'm just thinking.
It would make a lot of sense.
As being gay is something which is accepted and is not problematic and more and more people.
In the public are accepting -- in the workplace.
An adult you know the whole nine yards as we like to -- then obviously.
That might even become hindrance or a bigger problem for the Catholic Church.
In terms of recruiting more.
Race what a perfect opportunity to say for economic reasons we're gonna open up to everybody.
That's why -- hi Rick Sanchez.
