The media coverage.

Of the Catholic Church the Catholic Church obviously has been in the media spotlight most recently.

For the unexpected resignation of Pope Benedict and Cal Thomas joins us on Skype that's why he looks like he's in -- I believe Jonathan Hunt refers that refers to it is your.

Bunker yes she does John nice to be -- do you like I'm pretty -- working person -- a great job.

I really appreciate the feeling is mutual title in reporting on the Catholic Church.

Do you think the media get it right or is there an inherent.

Well sometimes sometimes they get it right I think they were they don't get a splendid job on uncovering.

These -- -- -- file priest.

And the enormous cover up clothing has gone on that for years and a lot of other scandals within the Catholic Church that the leadership hierarchy.

Wouldn't want to address or I was covered up at higher levels I think the Boston Globe the Los Angeles Times with cardinal Mahony out their holes -- Number other publications -- done an excellent job and they are to be praised and they have also encouraged a lot of these now adults people who were abused as children who come forward and I think that has been.

Essentially -- important in marriage healing process and seeking justice from.

Any -- church that doesn't from which they shouldn't expect to better treatment the other side of that coin however is this and that many in the secular media look for any opportunity they Chan.

To beat up on the Catholic church and its traditions are not a Catholic but I I think that to have this sort of -- betrays -- -- -- has -- -- and I think -- that represented in their constant calls we're seeing that even now.

As the Irish Catholic conclave of cardinals history to -- general next -- to select a new -- Calling for a modern -- By which they mean someone who'll be more tolerant toward abortion.

Unmarried priests.

Contraception and all of the -- same sex marriage which of the top four issues from the secular press.

I always like when John I -- sober and it -- columnist for many years at about.

His calvary church he said I'd rather -- church that is 500 years behind the times and so blindly in -- to change.

I would do it church that -- five minutes while -- at times huffing and puffing to catch up -- -- -- And retaliate if indeed is sort of touched on when you referred to them as the secular.

Media when it comes to bias in reporting on religion do you think it's because media.

And news media -- tracks.

Secular.

Reporters secular journalists or is there.

And inherent bias.

Against a particular denomination in this case catholicism.

You know I think it's it's it's broader than that I mean you take a look at the so called religious right agrees since and I'm not 1979 -- through the eighties.

You heard respected journalist supposedly like -- lawyers are saying don't part of these people come out aren't they had no reference what it.

Out of place -- -- like left.

And the religious I felt they had no idea who they work and most of them don't get the terminology right they they don't know the difference between born again and born yesterday.

They haven't a clue because they don't hang out -- than they think that it's a career killer.

I remember Peter Jennings hiring the only at the time full time religion reporter on ABC I have to about a wants.

And he said that well these this is an important subject he was absolutely right.

I think the media largely embarrassed by this but at a time and the rise of fundamentalist Islam and all that's going on the Catholic church and many other religions in the world.

Not to understand.

This sacred texts these states.

Is to do a poor job of reporting and communicating.

What the American people need to understand better.

And they tell talking about other religions you touched on -- -- do you think the media do a better job covering.

Non Christian religions is there an anti Christian bias or did the media just get religion wrong and in general.

-- I think -- in general in large part Jonathan but -- but I think that you know you mentioned again Islam.

I think -- a lot of the media are scared that to do this sort of thing for example Saturday Night Live just had this.

Split about Jesus that was it not blasphemy -- Certainly offensive to a lot of practicing Christians but they won't be forced to.

Pay a price -- meanwhile the book of Mormon continues to pack them in on Broadway musical.

Which uses all kinds of the stereotypes and disparaging language.

And even -- -- curse words and apply to the Mormon faith I guarantee -- they won't be doing Mohammed the musical.

They they fear they feel radical Islam.

They feel less evangelical and and Catholic Christians and and to a certain extent.

Are Jewish friends they allow a lot of the smears of the Jewish lobby in the protocols of Zion and some of this other hatred go forth from.

Islam without requiring any thing out of them but they are they are less.

Guardians.

Certain Christian denominations and saying it's.

From Atlanta to the bunker happy President's Day Cal Thomas but I got -- -- about it.
