Big story today China's military is now being linked to a group that's responsible for at least a 140 hacking attempts.

Targeting US companies -- this new report says that these hackers have stolen information from 100 targets in the United States.

It reportedly includes things like blueprints.

Details on protecting -- got creative contents.

Pricing documents contact list but that's not the worst of it really.

Let's talk about this -- ambassador John Bolton.

Former US ambassador to the UN and a Fox News contributor.

Good morning -- -- good to have you here.

Good morning -- you know what what it was shocking adding you know that the two main headlines here are that this new study that just came out.

Is linking it to the Chinese army the Chinese government of course has denied that there's any connection with any of these hacking.

Attempts are successes and the government this has their -- Also says that while they spent a lot of time -- on companies like Coca-Cola and alike Tina trying to steal corporate secrets.

What they're seeing now is it a big focus on electrical power grad.

Gas lines in the United States waterworks -- one target was a company with remote access to more than 60% of oil and gas pipelines in North America.

What do you think about this.

But this report is the latest in a long line of study some private some by our pentagon that had pointed the finger at the People's Liberation Army in China as the source of literally thousands of cyber warfare attacks on private American companies and and of course on the government this has been gone on for a long time.

China has the most advanced cyber warfare capability in the world.

And -- they're doing a -- I'm sure were not even aware of the ball of the bulk of what they're doing they're trying to penetrate defenses.

Perhaps they're trying to steal data perhaps they're trying to insert false data perhaps they're trying to affect operations.

Perhaps they're leaving cookies behind that can affect -- information systems behavior later this is a very serious problem I think we're.

Working on it -- let's be clear we're behind and we've got a long way to go to catch up yeah.

I mean this this is very scary stuff and and they Trace it back to.

One building on the outskirts of Shanghai unit 31698.

It sound like something from.

In a spy movie.

But when you talk about in those terms ambassador that they in -- going after pipelines and you think about how technical.

Our warfare has become with drones and all of this everything so much computer.

Orchestrated and you say that we are behind we we put a report out -- -- this full screen last week we talked about this that.

-- our defense capability will be surpassed.

By China in terms of the amount of money we spend on it is a better way to say it.

In 2035.

So what what do we -- to catch up in this whole cyber area.

Well I think the first thing to understand is this is not a battlefield that replaces.

Existing potential areas of conflict this is something new.

So at a time when were happily cutting our defense budget we should be going in precisely the opposite direction.

And I think this really reflects the structure of power inside China the People's Liberation Army is the dominant political force.

Within the Communist Party and the Communist Party remains the dominant.

Force in China.

That we need to do a lot technically we need to have a ladder of escalation in policy terms as well.

You know what's just mischief kids throwing rocks through windows.

What's criminal behavior what's espionage.

And water acts of war and had a we responded each of those levels -- we need a lot more national focus on congress.

If it comes back at any time soon ought to be getting to work on it as well.

Yet you know I -- -- think about sort of the whole defense discussion that's going on and perhaps there are areas in defense where some of the spending could be cut back.

You know but you do wish when you read this article and then there are people who are sort of screaming about this from the from the rafters but but that it that it was more you know that that it was a bigger -- And that we really are working to understand the future of the threats against our country.

Yeah -- absolutely look Adam Smith said the first duty of the sovereign is to protect the society against the violence of others and what.

These Chinese computer attacks are doing is showing what warfare the future could look like so.

No matter how stringent the budget circumstances says Ronald Reagan always used to say defense is not a budget line item is critical to our future secure.

Ambassador John Bolton really important staff thank you so much for -- and on Agassi's act thank you Martin.
