The Arizona woman charged with brutally murdering her boyfriend five years ago now says she has very little recollection of the gruesome details of the actual murder.
-- areas testifying that she doesn't remember stabbing her lover 27 times or slitting his throat during a fight at his home.
Here's -- detailing the only thing she does her call the moment she shot him.
Grabbed it and I ran out of the closet he was chasing me I turned around -- in the middle of the back through.
-- that -- -- both agreed.
I thought that Stockton.
Some are when you don't you stop but he just kept running he got.
Let alone back when he got kind of low and -- -- -- The before he did that -- lunch and he then went on I didn't mean to shoot him or anything.
I didn't think I was fully.
The triggered this is planning -- -- And I didn't even notice shot.
Well since the beginning of this trial jury areas has claimed she was a victim of abuse.
Listen to the exchange when questioned in court about the stabbing.
Let me ask you this.
Do you remember.
-- -- Had -- nutrients can.
Do you remember.
As we see here -- They didn't -- 62.
Do you remember dragging him across the before.
-- -- -- -- -- -- Lawyers who have been inside that courtroom this week Monica Lindstrom is a former prosecutor and criminal defense attorney -- -- also a criminal defense attorney.
Monica how is she doing.
Well for -- -- there I thought that she was doing OK I thought that she was getting some credibility when the jury by telling -- details after details.
But as soon as she got to the killing and she'd seen that she has no memory whatsoever other than what we just turn.
I thought wow she has just lost any credibility that she might have gained with this Jerry because.
With all these details before and now all of this and she doesn't have any details so they better have an expert come on to talk about that these blackouts this lack of memory supports her abuse dairy or otherwise she's just gotten -- that hearing now I have a -- Peter I would -- eleven it.
I have a feeling they could find such an expert Duane what do you think it is I mean -- -- she has she done herself.
Any service by her testimony.
Well I think yes you got to remember that that we're trying to -- -- defense is trying to win a war just not trying to win a battle.
But what DeWitt with regard to the memory loss you know everybody has agreed basically -- -- areas -- -- -- 120 pound woman.
And Travis be in the hunt at 200 pound man.
Did she would have to have a tremendous amount of adrenaline coursing through her in order to drag Travis down the hall picking up putting in the shower.
And when you have that much adrenaline going through your body.
You experience what's called a -- out I've experienced it myself I used to ride -- and when you first start out.
You know you're so much adrenaline you get adrenaline overload and everything just goes white and you don't remember a thing that happened.
They're gonna get an expert that's gonna say that's what happened to Jody.
-- we'll put that in your in -- next time lawyer at prosecutor former bull rider.
All right so Monica and -- but what about the story of the gun though she claims that.
You know she shot him.
She doesn't remember stabbing him then she gets in the car drives out into the desert throws the gun away -- wash is the blood off of her hands with a bottle water from the car.
How does that all fit in it it.
You know -- from the prosecutor side I can care less what she is sad because.
She didn't get any details about the actual killing she gave me no explanation the jury didn't hear anything about really what she was saying to her why she did what she did.
So I take that into just one side of my brain and now I focus on cross eyed focus on the point I want to -- I eight through my questions I'm making my point I reminding the jury that she stabbed him 29 times even though she doesn't remember it.
I'm reminding the jury that she slit his throat that she had again and she shot him.
After he was already dead so I don't care what her explanations where she is already a proven liar so I'm using my questions to make my points remind the jury -- she's guilty of premeditated murder.
-- guilty and not only that sentenced her to death.
Dwyane the shooting and the stabbing I mean.
You you know she's she's saying that he was crouching -- He was about to shoot the -- he was about the job that's why she had to shoot him but how does that fit in with the stabbing -- the and the throat slashing here.
Well nobody agrees when anything happen the front of their defense says that's dead she shot first -- they have later.
The prosecution says that that that she shot him at the end which makes.
Absolutely no -- Is why we -- somebody one they're already dead.
And so nobody really knows what exactly what they -- -- have the -- work.
And neither does neither does -- areas you got to remember this is that the states got approved.
Beyond a reasonable doubt.
That she killed me and that and that it was not self defense there were only two people in the room that night.
Only two people know what happened -- one of them is dead well and.
She was asked about a statement she made on television about this case on a play that foreign get a quick reaction.
Let me first ask do this comment.
No -- working this issue.
Why did you say that.
Really can't competitive person and we.
It's easy day long before.
Does everything that close to child.
OK so she's giving television interviews saying you know no jury whatever convict me of this case and what's really going on in the back overhead is she's gonna you know -- sometime after this interview was done she's gonna offers help Monica that make any sense.
You know and that could very well be the truth but what we.
Seem to forget is I believe she says no jury will convict me because I am innocent so even -- her explanation might sound okay.
It doesn't jive with the second part when she says because I -- sent.
And it through all of her explanation she always straight to say oh I cared about Travis I cared about him I didn't want people to think that's about him.
But in every explanation she's talking about how she felt how selfish she was.
-- calculating she was she wanted to throw people off of our -- -- she didn't want anybody to know she did it.
So I heard -- -- patterns and her vocabulary.
Are really going against her hair.
Let's not turn our attention to and gun case.
Yet when real quickly.
But she did explain it she said they'd never guard sitting next to her so she couldn't she had to say it was because he was dead I think if she couldn't really explain.
Why she was doing intercede and up in a padded cell.
Them aren't as it all sounds mighty strange to me but we'll see what this jury decides.
Let's not turn our attention to another bombshell in the Oscar -- -- murder case -- new lead investigator.
Has just been appointed after it was revealed that Hilton both is facing attempted murder charges himself.
Raising serious quick questions about the prosecution's case against the Olympic track star known to the world as the blade runner.
The story is charged with premeditated murder in the shooting death of his model girlfriend.
-- -- cam.
What about that blame all of a sudden I mean.
This case couldn't get any weirder but all of a sudden the prosecutor the -- Investigator is is brought up on charges of seven counts of attempted murder.
Yeah it's never good when you're a prosecutor and your lead investigators.
Charged with attempted murder.
And they did the right thing I mean earlier today they they finally took him off the case.
And replaced him with a different officer but you know that's -- -- it.
That's gonna call it any.
He's good at some point -- have to testify and they get to cross examine him.
About about having these these these charges against -- -- -- it's got to hurt their case tremendously I -- I believe that that.
Dead they're gonna have -- trouble with first degree murder anyway but this is just gonna make it worse Monica your quick.
Thoughts.
Yet as a prosecutor and looking at this thing in oh my god are you kidding me.
So I wanna stop the bleeding I'm probably gonna get an offer to something less because we -- lead investigator has challenges like this he loses all credibility.
As a defense attorney at night we.
I've got all kinds of steps that I can go after the state with now and I can get my client a better offer because of this lead investigator and because he was involved in the sloppy police work.
Let's see what kind of justice comes out of both of these cases where -- unfortunately.
You know dead victims of the center of them.
Monica going thank you both.
