-- down below the dentist.
A US think tank reports North Korea has stepped up work -- a nuclear site less than a week after the regime's latest bomb test.
The -- of the US Korea institute Johns Hopkins University satellite photos reveal rise in traffic at nuclear site.
But the institute also warned that it doesn't have enough evidence to confirm or deny the new test might be in the works.
This comes after North Korean state media release another one of those glorious propaganda videos there's -- so is our president and our troops up in flames.
Gordon Chang is with the -- author of the book nuclear showdown North Korea takes on the world and a frequent guest on the subject -- I guess you know what are they doing now.
Well I think that they certainly are going for a fourth nuclear -- soon.
They needed to -- they've got to make sure the bomb works with a consultant Iranians and the other thing is that Kim -- on the new ruler needs to consolidate his position in -- he's only been there in about a year he's got a appease the generals because North Korea is a militant state.
It has his song long military first policy so he needs to do what they want and also Kim Jong -- his father the departed leader.
In his but his last will and testament is reported to have told his son to continue with these nuke and missile programs in order to -- North Korea could be a full fledged nuclear power he can't go against that.
So is is it your sense -- another test is coming it sort of looks like it it well it certainly it does they will test when it's politically feasible for them to do so.
Durbin reports that this third test could occur occur as early as last may when they actually put the device into the tunnel and sealed it they didn't do it because they felt the time wasn't right.
Right now they can see the United States isn't gonna stop them and China isn't gonna stop the -- so there's very little to prevent the north Koreans from going ahead what went when you say that China and the United States are not gonna stop them how would China and the United States stop.
Well the United States could do a number of things including some crippling financial sanctions that the Bush Administration put in place in 2005.
They worked we took them out and 2007 at the behest of Beijing that was premature.
China has basically said that we're going to support North Korea with more aid.
-- they're not gonna cut it off in the Chinese have also said that they are not going to permit new sanctions in the Security Council.
So basically -- north Koreans don't see anything blocking their path.
Two more missile and nuke test is the North Korean goal to become a military but because coming nuclear power.
Or to advertise its -- ITV's nuclear capabilities.
To other rogue states or rogue groups that would want to use them.
I think the answer to that is both and -- -- the arabians are reported to have been on site -- a nuclear test this month.
As they were in 2006 and 2009 in the two prior to us.
The Iranians have been there for the long range ballistic missile test.
North Korea sells all this stuff to Iran -- -- pays for it.
And so clearly they've got to improve their designs because Iranians aren't gonna buy something that doesn't work what's -- end game here Gordon we talk about the same stuff all the time.
I guess the end game is that both North Korea and a rare and get the world's most destructive weapons must be stopped them.
And and that's really going to be a problem because they're gonna destabilize both regions at the same time.
And right now the administration like the administration before it is really not taking effective actions to stop the north Koreans Iranians see that and they see that is a big green light for their own -- so this is not just a North Korean problem this is also a problem in the Middle East who.
Gordon Chang thank you thank you.
