If you could do that claim for yourself the titles -- What you achieved all of those things.
Having -- -- -- with no legs.
Kevin Michael Connelly.
Is that man.
And has achieved so much and overcome so many extraordinary challenges.
And he's here now that to talk about his -- Travel Channel show which.
Is on Tuesday on the Travel Channel 10 PM eastern and Kevin -- I get the feeling -- back to -- look at me as a did I haven't done anything special.
'cause they then like then when you put all of -- -- Jonathan and that's reason -- really busy person -- you're you -- not only busy but you are clearly obviously very talented.
And extraordinarily.
Determined.
I -- that.
I would present a little differently if they think do -- lost back political.
Which would mean is that I really am a naturally curious person I love discovering new things and I have -- truly over commit myself up a the the clips of me that you'll see of jumping off the clip as well as climbing a massive tree.
Both those times I was thinking like well you really do you kind of say will say anything without -- really thinking it through what you were just looking at the heat he's not.
You hope either you wouldn't every you're not -- -- million years I -- -- extraordinary.
And the -- -- biggest Kevin I know you do not think of yourself in any way.
As as different or an and you don't like the term disabled.
But you don't have legs people don't understand.
How you can be -- -- thrill seeker I'm -- Did so to take on -- these challenges.
Born -- -- you would tell us a little bit about your upbringing of -- put that sort of mentality in your mind.
Absolutely.
So one of -- I'd I don't know how many people will -- the cultural reference but one of the major TV shows growing up was on the diver for us -- really DDF those behind that show is adapt to whatever you know whatever your surroundings dictate using what you had a hand.
Which really when it comes to my show armed and ready that's what we're doing every episode you take an activity you don't think a league this guy could do and then you make him do it.
And along the -- or to facilitate that we build the series of adaptive rigs as he saw with me climbing the tree.
To allow me to overcome whatever challenges -- may have.
And actually to answer your disability question to whether or not I kind of like it or not.
I think to say like the word disability is kind of an interesting content because it says -- either either or you're either disabled or you're not and the way I kind of look at myself and really a lot of the stuff I'm doing on this show.
Is your relative ability to carry out a given task at a given point in time.
It's a -- climbing a staircase in you know in New York trying to climb out of the subway a -- a little bit slower I understand that and disabled in that context.
But when I jump on my skateboard and I'm going at twice the speed of everyone else -- -- the energy it's a little bit harder to reconcile that.
Black aids and it -- -- -- and a little bit about the show how long did you how long have you been filming this and what -- -- the idea come from in the first place Kevin.
We'll Travel Channel contacted me after my book was released and they saw an article and Outside Magazine and kind of quickly brought me on time to develop a show I was a film student at the time so it was something that I'd always.
Kind of wanted to do in some capacity and with the amount of traveling -- been doing for my photography is what was my participation in the X games.
He and a crazy risk taker was kind of something I was doing anyway.
And so kudos to Travel Channel because they really spent a lot of time with me working on.
What the tone of the show was going to be which is you know you go out there and take on your challenges without any real sentimentality about it you have -- The 27 year old bachelor angle kind of rough.
It's -- an extraordinary show and I I think will be a huge inspiration to.
So many people but to.
What is first Donny doing kind of crazy things would -- growing up -- in Montana I believe what did your parents say.
There's more encouraging it not gonna put -- and now all up.
-- my mom watches armed and ready and she gives me angry phone calls he's done and it's like really brought this on yourself lucky no one else to blame -- up.
So they must be extraordinarily proud of you.
They are you know when I started traveling abroad I was actually the first person might -- lead to even have a passport.
So when I was shooting my photo series I would call one day and it's like -- not -- Tokyo and then they -- hear from me for six months and then a phone call -- -- like okay -- in Syria and vote and my parents at this point between the X -- and all that craziness and then armed and ready.
They just kind of have this blind support where it's like oh.
Hey whatever you think we love you.
-- Well it really I mean your story is extraordinary Kevin but whether -- Whether you think you're just an ordinary guy doing some crazy things that that's up to you to -- in my eyes and as my producer just sent me in my area.
This he's absolutely amazing and the show is obviously going to be amazing I I I recommend everybody watch it on the Travel Channel Tuesday evening 10 PM eastern.
I Kevin Michael -- were a real Armitage told you so thanks so much for being here.
-- thinks about Jonathan appreciate it all right.
