Is with the changing of the guard at the Vatican and that many in the Catholic Church are calling for change.

But want kind of change -- days ahead and what kind of change may depend on how the church deals with the lingering sexual abuse crisis that is overshadow the privacy of the Benedict the sixteenth.

One solution has been to allow.

-- to married that's one suggestion and that's a subject of a foxnews.com Latino.

Articles written by Rick Sanchez.

-- joins me now from Miami.

-- -- How are you you know Lauren I was just thinking that I was -- mass yesterday and I was afraid that people have written the article that we're looking at me like someone curiously.

That's at a is that the guy -- suggesting we change the rules and moved.

We'll let you know that's one of the things that people are talking about -- and a lot of times when there's this changes in -- he was saying how good this is an opportunity for change what change.

Are you talking about you mention like three things.

Demographics economics of seismic cultural shifts.

All of these things sort of new book what could change are you looking well.

-- I I think to a certain extent it's somewhat obviously.

-- -- is settled a -- is a man made it law.

This is not something that was incorporated.

You know by the gospels is something that man developed and priests were married and the third the first 39 popes were married.

And you know for 12100 years bishops were married and priest were married and popes were married there was a it was it was something that was normal and I thought it was good for the church things obviously.

Changed I mean I think you know when Constantine decided that he would become a Christian Catholic -- -- The Roman church essentially took.

Catholicism.

And made it something very different from what it was let's say.

It made it less grass roots blessed family oriented.

Less small more institutionalized.

Bigger.

And in many ways that kind of led to what became the end of priests being able to -- -- dads and husbands as well and at what I'm arguing in many ways is just basic math.

At a time when the church is having to close some parishes because there's not enough.

Celibate priests out there would -- be a wonderful opportunity to embrace the possibility.

Of using the man.

And we can get into the women aspect later on at least for now.

Using men who were married by the way did you know there are 20000.

Of them.

In the United States and they never stop being priests it's just that they can't -- cleric.

It's like you know you are talking about sort of the issues that are impacting the Catholic church and one of them.

-- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- As economic this Heisman hopeful ships and we know demographics are changing because you've got a large Hispanic immigration.

Into the United States and that's actually -- the Catholic.

Number is pretty steady over the last few years.

What do things that that I wanted to ask you about because George Michael -- -- Catholic.

Sort of into the intelligence -- he's written a book called evangelical catholicism and I interviewed him a couple weeks together and he says.

You know the check out the -- just got to face the facts that a large percentage of Catholics just really haven't had had the gospel they've done too much -- So all the things that that -- first as for the settled issues on abortion -- -- -- and all of those things that you just don't understand why.

Do you wish to comment on them that that the problem is is -- the church has not been able to communicate what it actually believes.

I think it all has to go back to the Vatican has to go back to the gospel and I think -- it's true.

That we as Catholics often times.

Forget going back to the good book as it -- I think the second Vatican council obviously modernized our -- something would say it may be over modernized it.

I do believe some of us expected that that we would see some level of at least in perspective that's.

Coming from.

The Pope.

I think there's a possibility now that we might be able to see some more.

In perspective and look and you know as -- Catholic who's not necessarily.

A Vatican scholar.

Nor do I profess to be psychologist.

Or someone.

Who is completely -- I'm a journalist who happens to be a Catholic who thinks about these things.

Deeply and when I look at my church I do see areas where we should have conversations about these things and I think now.

More than ever are -- living during -- time.

Because of the cultural awareness that we -- what we can't have these discussions.

And I have them with fellow Catholics who are my friends when we sit down and we have these conversations were able to talk about these things so yeah I guess in the end the FB answer the question is yes we should be able to have.

Discussions about the liturgy and moving forward -- -- may be even making changes that aren't necessarily.

Changes that we're blessed by Jesus.

Awakenings the problem the problem right here this -- look at a Catholic clergy is the problem with have buying money so -- -- is not a matter of that they it's a matter of commitment.

And that's.

Up problem with the entire culture that we can't stay married.

We have a divorce rate that's really high.

We have this ramp -- sort of individualism.

Where.

You know passion equals truth that's a cultural problem that has seeped into.

The Catholic church and that's why you can't have what is what you can't have.

Public finding -- -- that -- it's about commitment.

But what that would mean that would be such a low bar to -- especially for a Christian man who was the leader of his community.

-- stated we don't want you to get married because others have tried this marriage thing.

At it hasn't worked for them I mean if that's the bar that we years Christians set for ourselves that were essentially doomed just saying is -- -- -- Is set that example who better to set that exact right well that is the plan my leads us at our church a priest.

-- -- that was the whole point of making his the issue is about commitment and that they should raise the bar.

In that sense but -- thing I wanted to bring out to you though because you make the point in your article that a cell that lifestyle may have attracted gay men.

To the priesthood as a way to -- And you sort of equate this to the sexual abuse crisis and I and I want to see if you're really drawing a comparison here is that.

You know is is that you rampant homosexuality is are rampant homosexuality in the priesthood in the Catholic Church.

Here's a look you know here's what I'm saying what I'm actually saying is that there's a wonderful opportunity now to revisit.

Priests who are married.

Rejoining of the church and a big reason for that is because to their credit.

Men who are gay in the United States who once -- the church out as a safe space sort of speak.

A place where the expectation wasn't that you would be married.

That no longer is the main attraction as a matter of fact today.

In the society that we live -- Gay men can be openly day.

In all settings and can be in any profession and can take any job what that means is there will likely be fewer men.

Who will be wanting to go to into the priesthood and we're already seeing at least it.

In our country and our hemisphere fewer numbers in terms of priests so.

I'm kind of looking -- it is.

Another.

Another cog in the arguments don't speak another opportunity to revisit the fact that we should have.

Men who are.

Married.

Allowed to stay in our role of faith and I think that would certainly attract a better church make it a bigger church.

OK well let's I wanna draw people again to your article on Fox News.

Latino dot com I think it is that's not my area.

Yeah FR I have to have fox you're exactly Fox News Latino and -- -- have been a lot of pull -- over on this since we put it together and it.

Looks at some people have a big problem when that and I think a lot -- I think what happens a lot of people really believe.

That this is something that's.

You know etched in stone the fact that there has to be some of the among priests -- -- -- -- -- Etched in stone in the Bible -- in the first or second book and actually all that I've read.

Indicates that it's not that there are other reasons why it happens on the -- Only their political reasons but there you know Paul talks about it in any missiles it talks about certain reasons an accident you know.

You know what I'm about and you Allan thank you very much -- people to check out your article Rick Sanchez.

At at Rick Sanchez TV fox has attempted Lauren thank you so much for being here always always good talking to you great talking to you --
