Good evening I'm Brett -- we are six days away from what President Obama calls a meat cleaver approach.

Two cuts in the growth of federal spending.

We've been explaining it that way here all week long essentially.

And 85 billion dollar decrease in the increase in the size of government a three point six trillion dollar budget.

But because of how the sequester is implemented the strict way it was designed.

A White House idea embraced and voted on by members of both parties in congress.

And signed into law by the president.

Here we are less than a week asked the question now is is the sequester inevitable.

Chief White House correspondent Ed Henry tells us that depends on who's talking.

-- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- Our coverage of the -- -- rumor.

People after talks with Japanese prime minister should still operate President Obama took a rare question from the press in the Oval Office and it's that he's still optimistic there can be a bigger budget deal.

He had off massive indiscriminate spending cuts.

There's not a which is growth.

Don't you folks who have proven.

What we have more.

Tax loopholes.

Better take advantage of all -- -- -- -- A far more pessimistic tone is coming from speaker John -- office which today charged the president has been a wall.

Other than phone calls -- GOP leaders yesterday -- his spokesman declared quote soundbites in speeches won't yield results.

While the conservative group crossroads GPS -- a new -- today mocking the apocalyptic tone coming from the president.

-- you want to see a bunch of first responders lose their job.

Teachers laid -- an air traffic controllers and airport security.

Hardship -- a whole lot of new.

Middle class families scramble to -- Child care for their kids so called sequester was Obama's idea in the first place he turned it into law it seems like every three months around here.

There's some manufactured prices -- Yet the administration continued the drumbeat of gloom and doom with transportation secretary ray look good morning.

Airport wait times are about to become even more of a mess.

Flights to major cities like New York Chicago and San Francisco and others could experienced delays of up to ninety minutes.

During peak hours.

Because we have fewer controllers on -- Republican Rand Paul today introduced his.

Own alternative plan without layoffs charging the White House is exaggerating the impact.

I would say balderdash hash it's untrue unfair.

Dishonest.

Disingenuous.

The president is making stuff up he puts law enforcement for people it's firemen and policemen.

-- 98% of them are being paid for -- -- local taxes and says you're gonna lose your local policemen.

Because of this it's not true.

Meanwhile Republican Duncan hunter's teeing off on the White House for -- the deployment of the USS Harry S Truman to the Persian gulf hunter claiming.

This is more about drama then actual budget cuts a pentagon spokesman -- told Fox News it was the right decision to make that it was all about saving money.

It had nothing to do with political drama -- You know Ed yesterday we had Gene Sperling on with the National Economic Council and advisors and asked him about the warn act -- this is the notices to be sent -- for sixty days in advance and there was.

Letter sent out in September.

That said that the Office of Management and Budget would cover all legal costs if the government was sued if these companies were -- rather.

That these employees.

Didn't get those notices in the big pick up all the legal costs and and -- didn't have really an answer about that the deal and -- get back to us today they were asking.

A budget officials today about some of these issues and today they put out some paper that basically said look it's not even clear the way the warn act is actually written.

That these layoff notices furlough notices have to go out.

Because there are efforts being made to shut off the sequester so it's not even clear that the sequester will go forward.

Even -- obvious a lot of people in Washington in both parties.

Think it will go forward.

So they're saying it's not clear that these legal costs for anyone suing the government of the contractors are losing their jobs that that would have to be covered but the bottom line is there have been good decisions issued by the government suggesting these legal costs would have to be picked up.

So bottom line is when all -- said -- could be a big legal mess -- -- down the question was why the letters went out first place ahead of the election.

-- they didn't want the notices to Iraq.

Yeah and the White House yesterday when asked Jay Carney about that whether they were delaying -- -- political reasons they've insisted no.

They they didn't.

The only reason why they held back to furlough notices before the election is because they were not right up against a sequestered deadline.

Like they are now but as you said there were allegations back then that they were holding it back for political reasons are that we'll follow all of the elements thank you.
