All right welcome back -- parents listen up if you want to track your teams while they're out and about there's now an app for that it sure is new iPhone apps like teen tracker and mama bear.
Let parents monitor their kids' activity like following a location on a map.
And activating the phone's camera to record audio or video but does is tracking compromised the trust between you and your child doctor keep.
-- -- a psychiatrist.
Of the fox medical 18 good morning to you or -- Good morning how are you guys think that -- thanks for asking it sound good and it's just -- -- a little bit of a step further from.
Mom or dad going through -- their child's room and looking through their diary maybe.
Does happen to you and it.
Actually a lot not that I know but that's.
Is this is taken as a step further is as good bad ugly.
Well look I think -- ten steps further.
Basically this is a license.
For teenagers to not be responsible.
And for their parents.
To have a leash on them that violates in fact their own boundaries so.
The bottom line is listen we have to get back I think psychologically to a place where people communicate.
Where they have integrity where you can look in the -- of your teenager.
And no in your heart because you're connected.
To that person emotionally whether that we're dealing with -- responsible individual.
This short circuits all of that because it's essentially.
-- turning over to technology your parental responsibilities.
And your responsibilities as a developing adult.
It's -- there's some things doctor that we don't want and now would you really want to know everything your kids said we -- not with.
Them.
That's an excellent point listen there are things that.
You know we require.
As developing adolescents.
And young adults to be private.
You don't want to share with your parents texts which by the way can be eavesdropped on.
By these different apps emails where you're talking amorous -- to -- a young man that you you you feel connected to.
Or where you're saying things about your parents.
You know what it's part of the rite of passage is supposed to complain.
If you feel that you're being tread upon by your parents and this is treading upon you so.
If you're a teenager who's done no wrong who -- decent grades and hasn't been arrested and your parents want to do this yourself on.
Throw yourself on in the garbage and walked out of the house for the night that's my advice to -- my two and a half year old son when he goes in the bathroom now he says daddy any privacy.
-- call and actually OK I respect his base two and a half that this crazy.
But that's a good sign that's a good -- we respect his privacy but to your point about being arrested is there a point at which this is OK I mean the -- -- run and off the rails and really doing some bad things and you step in with a -- Sure look you're you're kid is addicted to heroin and just got arrested for malicious threatening.
May be but you know what.
Then you get a look at what kind of parent you've been anyhow.
Right because no tool of technology is gonna correct what you screwed up by the time your kids a heroin addict and arrested for malicious threatening and.
Take your vs nurture there I guess -- -- -- is so -- so could be uses it as a punishment penalty.
Also you know maybe if you're worried about your daughter she's in a bad relationship.
You know and you're trying to get her out she's going to see the guy anyway it's -- -- -- -- for that.
Yeah the rough and tumble bad boy in town to Sicily well.
Doctor Evelyn and -- didn't -- -- those are I think that's we're sorry and -- wise we appreciate your comments on.
