Croatian officials said the government is working on improving cyber security in the US that's in response to attacks that have been linked to the Chinese Government.

That is on a 115.

American companies so far the attacks haven't really affected most of the US.

But with the click of a mouse hackers could shut down our electric grids mess around with -- air traffic control.

Maybe even access the launch codes it could happen.

And my next guest says we're just not prepared joining me is Michigan congressman and chairman of the House Intelligence Committee congressman Mike Rogers congressman thanks for joining.

-- -- -- is the issue with cyber security in the US.

Well I will tell you it's not just a 115 companies it's gone well beyond that so there are two companies left in America governor.

Those that have been -- to know what and those that have been hacked and don't know what.

I have never seen such a prolific.

Exponentially growing problem that the United States is not prepared to handle.

And that's Chinese coming into our networks stealing intellectual property -- blueprints that make your company valuable taking it back to China.

Repurchasing it and then competing against are US companies in the international market.

One American company was -- very large manufacturing company most people would know it.

They argue that because of the theft Chinese theft.

Took it back we copied their product now is competing against them 25000.

US manufacturing jobs lost because of it.

All why aren't we doing something more about it and this is not something I'm hearing every day this is huge.

Well it is huge why don't we hear more about this -- Well couple reasons one companies were very reluctant to talk about it in our facts -- it was the first committee.

About two years ago to come out and named China as the number one.

Intellectual property or economic espionage.

Actor in the world we've never seen anything like it in the history of the world by the way.

In companies were reluctant to come forward I couldn't even get someone to come testify at the committee -- for fear of retribution.

For trying to do business in China.

So we have this this odd that a confluence of events that allowed companies to say hey I don't really want talk about it it might hurt my stock share much stock prices -- Wall Street might hurt might -- to raise capital I don't want the Chinese to come after me again.

But we've kept pushing this envelope and kept pushing this envelope.

Until now this report that you referenced shows just how serious.

Chinese espionage as.

And how we need to wake up and we need to wake up today we're in a cyber war with countries like China Iran others.

And were losing Mike that's the problem we you know -- sounds like we're being held hostage.

By China and -- literally holding businesses and and their future.

For ransom for all practical purposes.

Let's talk about what can.

Hackers potentially due to the electric grid in a way that it would affect not just some business and manufacturing but every American citizen.

Yeah and hit it here's couple things to remember -- that most Americans are familiar with the criminal side of people trying to steal your identity or break in your bank account all of that.

This is much more sophisticated.

Level than that -- a nation state like China or Russia now Iran.

Have as a part of military planning this is already a part of their planning.

That if they were gonna have I have some aggressive offensive operation they would first come in and shut down the your ability to -- -- -- electric -- -- your -- all your electricity would go out.

They'd shut your ability to get access to your financial institutions so imagine that your grocery store would have no electricity.

-- no way to repair it anytime soon.

And you know what damage that can do know the financial services sector would be shut down people wouldn't have access to cash and other things it would cause huge massive problems.

And we know that China has that as part of their capability -- enemy India report which is the first real public with a private company but public report.

On the kinds of things they were prepared to do was exactly that so.

Trying to create chaos we used to -- -- prepping the battlefield when I was in the army.

We used to do -- artillery shells and airplanes bombing now they would do it with cyber attacks of epic proportions.

Congressman I appreciate your vigilance on this and really thank you for opening our eyes because I don't think the average American has ever heard.

Some of these scenarios that are being played out great to have you here look forward avenue --
