General Norman Schwarzkopf with a memorial service the general passed away in December.

Rick Leventhal is on the story for -- he joins us live from the US military academy at West Point in New York the -- often called storming Norman.

Remembering him today -- A terrific nickname -- he earned from his troops because of his fiery temper of the general was known as a very top military man.

And a very frank talker in -- time magazine described him as a man with a John Wayne swagger and a growl like a grizzly.

Generals were -- served two tours of duty in Vietnam he received three silver stars he led troops during the invasion of Grenada.

And is best known for commanding the forces during the first gulf war operation desert stormy ousted Iraqi troops from Kuwait.

And went into Iraq and ended the ground war and just four days and had some choice words for the former Iraqi leader.

As far as Saddam Hussein.

Being a great military -- just.

He is neither a strategist.

Nor is the schooled on the operational art.

Nor is he attacked -- Nor is he a general.

Nor as beautiful.

-- that he's a great military man what you know.

General Schwarzkopf retired shortly after the war in 1991 his autobiography was called it doesn't take a hero he said it doesn't take a hero to.

Order men into battle.

It takes a hero to be one of those men going.

-- What a life what a life and all of those memorable press conferences.

During the gulf for he just showed us a little bit of that.

And his ashes will be buried at West Point -- That's a very significant place obviously in his life.

Yeah it's quite an honor him and his father H Norman senior is buried here you must be a West Point graduate or a family member to be buried here general -- -- was the class of 56.

A memorial service will be held here in the -- cadet chapel at 1230 this afternoon and then the in internment will take place here in the cemetery at very definite.
