Chris Graham in a deal with the sequester fallout in their states when asked who is the blame for the -- Oklahoma governor Mary Fallon answered everybody.
She joins us SC governor.
Good to see to Greta OK governor so would it would be everybody's I mean I got my list of everybody has been who's yours.
Here's a lot of people well first of all beginning at the top with leadership and asked the president.
-- the president suggested this sequestered at a choruses it went to congress congress.
Have -- in there as I'd really have deep fault that they were going to work on trying to.
Balanced budget lower the deficit they didn't do it so now we have this deep ball to this precious I think your place the blame where there's Republicans Democrats the house the -- the president but.
In the end it starts at the top with the president.
I have what could be the White House issued a paper and I'm looking at the -- the -- that goes to your state Oklahoma where they say that all this is where the cuts -- gonna -- Oklahoma I'm curious whether whether you agree it's as Oklahoma will lose a practice four point nine million in funding for primary and secondary education putting seventy teacher and paid jobs at risk that's four point nine million funny may be no this -- is -- Additional money that you weren't expecting me where's what's is four point as I can read them below the baseline of what you've Harris has slowed growth.
I I think it's going to be slow growth and it's hard to tell humming a lot of governors just don't know exactly what to expect.
In all the years he's scare tactics that we're gonna have to cut teachers are gonna have to cut this cut that call is different scary things ever going to happen but -- -- In my state when I took over two years ago and -- -- comment we -- around a six billion dollar budget we had a 500 million dollar budget shortfall.
And -- go around scaring people time I was gonna happen.
It -- Alvin nursing Hummer Carl the teachers -- -- these kinds of things what I did was go about prioritizing my spending.
Looking at ways I could eliminate government waste makes things more -- fashion.
I was able to close that budget gap which is.
Close around 8% cut and hence spending in Oklahoma.
And -- the result of that is banned in my unemployment rate dropped from 7% down at five point 1%.
Now I have actually economic growth and our state and we went from heaven two dollars and three cents on our rainy day savings account.
Over 600 million dollars to say -- in just two years so.
If states can -- -- the federal government can do that I don't hear the president talking about is how we gonna make government more efficient more effective eliminate waste he talks about how we get ahead tax increases.
How we got to cut all these programs and how we're gonna.
Just scared her body into tangible thing that went the nation's going to -- Heck yeah yes yes.
Let me ask you write a prior life when you're in congress and and just seeking -- and I I think this an important point to drive home for the red because they hear the word -- and may think that means that we're gonna have less this year than we had last just -- -- as a most people think cut is what in Washington language what cut means that we're just not gonna grow as much as we're not gonna spend as much -- an extra that we we planned to spend right.
We're gonna slow down the growth and for now you know spending has increased so much in Washington DC.
How I Washington DC get away with calling it that caught -- the slow -- -- I don't ever I swear everyone thinks -- -- thinks it's a cut it's just put is that this spend as much as we thought we're gonna spend X.
For what sort of and it's absolutely we're -- spend -- -- we have man and we shouldn't be spending so much I don't think.
People think we don't have enough money wash and I think they think we have a spending problem I think we have a spending problem.
And Washington DCI and over that time that I was in congress and the time I've been governor and we just seeing spending a lot can happen out.
And -- and so what we're really talking about a slowing down the spending growth.
And Washington DC and we can do that governors across the nation for putting -- -- if they can do that.
Well I'm not I'm not convinced that we even need to cut programs because there's so much fat in the government and there's so much -- -- that we remain one game one effort to locate it to locate the -- the repetitive payments anything and they -- -- if it cut any of these services but I -- I think the last word on that thank you.
Thank you and -- --
