Do you want to shed some pounds here's the answer just do more housework.
A controversial new study is sparking outrage because it links household chores to women's -- -- This is through researchers say women in the 1960s did more than 25 hours a week.
Of cleaning cooking and laundry.
But in 2010 that number's decreased to thirteen hours and scientists are trying our time to declined to activity.
To weight -- are they on to something or is this offensive to modern day women.
Fox News medical contributor doctor Marc Siegel is here to I don't know defend women or I don't know -- -- back coming up.
Well I'm gonna defend them I am not gonna go out of this segment being blamed for exit for this -- that I don't -- But you know look 22 pounds more over that same period of time when housework has gone down.
From 25 hours a week to thirteen hours a week and in the old days in 1965.
Your -- -- dishes by hand.
You had the dust mop you had these big clunker vacuums that you pushed around me no doubt you're expending calories doing that.
Of course a lot of the the gateway two pounds in the past that it's.
Because we're leading more sedentary lives not because we need to do more housework -- -- If you can figure out a way to keep your house -- just go for -- go for a walk -- go to the gym you'll have to.
This -- -- you know you.
House and I'm totally in agreement without but I won it in the point that it's not just going to the gym it's also the sedentary lifestyle part of the equation here -- Women in this study were 25% more of their time was spent in front of a computer screen sitting.
And so even if you go to the gym what are you doing the rest of the time -- a huge study.
Puck out a couple years ago when more than a 120000.
People found that women were 40% more likely.
To to die earlier if they sat in front of -- screen more than six hours a day that's the problem what are we doing instead of the -- work.
We're watching computers where we're doing online media that's where we're headed and that's the -- I think you're right you know I featured an -- pyramid show a couple of times -- lose it and I had so many viewers -- -- written mean they've lost like 1013 1415 pounds already by using it and you're able to plug in the activities you do throughout the day.
My wife who is up and Alistair constantly with the babies and doing different things she plugs in the amount house where she doesn't -- that -- And you being stunned at the amount of calories -- burned by just two and housework.
But again it -- housework because if you're employed if you're not a house sliver home of -- you've got to walk between your various activities you gotta get up.
You got -- and as we've said before park your car away from the supermarket or walk there be conscious of what you're doing in between the exercise you're doing unfortunately.
This computer screen issue or sitting there watching television or whatever you're doing can definitely take away from life span.
What about the advent of fast food we have many more fast food restaurants than we did.
Forty years ago office had processed foods is about part of the 22 pounds are now.
-- the limitation of the study I think that the exercise part of the so the activity part of this is only part of the equation what we're eating is really huge problem to we're reading way too many high fat foods.
Winning we eating way too many carves I mean I think if we cut down we have to do this -- -- -- You cut down on the amount of carbon sheet in the -- increase overall the amount of activity you have.
Right because it seems like this study goes hand in hand with the time period with with with which we started having -- of the low fat food grace or in the whole box -- snack well cookies because -- low fat.
-- high in.
There -- high and everything else in car.
Absolutely and that that wasn't as true years ago we watch a film from the 1960s you're gonna see very skinny people course -- -- smoking and those there's at least.
And cut down way on that -- -- building -- vacuuming and smoking absolutely that was that was in 96 and I really wish those those desk treadmills would catch on where you know you're working and.
-- -- -- -- -- I really -- I just bought one -- my gosh well not no joke I've letters president but I wish everybody out there would get one of these that doctor -- great information thank you.
