power play himself Chris -- -- here with his take on Romney to review how are you today and good good -- always happy to be here.

-- so let's talk a little bit your overall impression about what we heard from the Romney's and GOP moving forward well.

There was a note of rueful mess may be and you heard him saying there -- that bite we just heard with Peter we talked about it was because of my campaign.

That I lost and a lot of Republicans probably agree with -- that that all of that.

But you know the thing about Mitt Romney then.

He wasn't an ideological kind of candidate he's not an ideologues he's a manager he likes to run stuff he wants to be -- -- he wanted to be the CEO of the federal government.

And candidates that are ideological.

The question then is if you don't have a message about which direction the party should go.

What message is he going to bring.

To Republicans about the the technical side of getting elected.

And it sounds like maybe he learned some hard lessons.

And -- and play a little bit more about what he had to say.

Talking about sequester how the president's doing with this whole thing as it plays out let's -- that it.

When I was elected governor of of my state I had a legislature.

87% Democrat.

It was not lost on me that to get anything done.

I couldn't be attacking them I had to find ways to to reach out to them the president.

Has the opportunity.

To lead the nation and to bring Republicans and Democrats together its job he's got to do and it's a job only the president can do.

Some like he's trying to appeal to me you know the greater interest of the country in -- but to the president to say essentially you know let's get it together.

That lunch after the election the president invited Mitt Romney become -- White House for lunch and it from all in outward indications it was a perfunctory sort of thing like aren't we glad that we.

Didn't -- didn't have a rebellion in the streets after the election yeah eight.

But you wonder you look at Mitt Romney who's somebody who again not -- ideologue somebody who Barack Obama could have used.

In his administration I mean -- -- Treasury Secretary.

Mitt Romney or something like that and you think about sort of a waste opportunity it's not without historical president precedent.

In 1936 Wendell Wilkie the Republican nominee lost Franklin Roosevelt Franklin Roosevelt brought him on the team.

And helped cement.

There it was about the it ended up being the United Nations but that became wonder will keys they do it he did it and -- was a businessman by the way so.

I think the president might have missed an opportunity with Mitt Romney to have somebody who would who would -- very happily partnered with them.

Because he wants to you know he's still a young man and he still wants to do stuff we think that -- completely closed now -- that that -- has half.

I -- this this president as as governor Romney pointed out this president has not shown that he is interested in building those kinds of bridges he's interest in and we saw a spate of articles on this in the last couple days.

Around the sequestration this president is thinking about 2014.

And kicking the Republicans out of the house -- he can have a total victory that's what he's thinking about not building bridges with that round.

Okay press interview there's a lot of looking back at what -- been done differently in the campaign.

And both of -- he announced toward the end they thought they were gonna win they have these huge crowds and number covering them mountain Virginia over the turning out 1010151000.

And here's a bit of what in rock -- had to say about the enthusiasm and where they may be misjudged things.

I think they had a better ground game and I think we were not aware you know we we certainly had a passion coming from our side.

And I think we -- we are as aware of the past that was coming from the other side I think we that we -- a little blind sided by that.

They were genuinely surprised him Romney was genuinely surprised that not just that they lost but that they lost by few points.

You know the truth is this and and this is the reality.

Republicans do -- polls traditionally speaking Republicans do better on Election Day than they do and pre election polls.

But they were counting on some magic unicorn dust -- sprinkle down and take them over the top.

It would that it wasn't impossible but everybody pretty much knew that it was going to be a pretty long -- by the time we got last week so.

Again and we all they have heard the stories anecdotally about the voters even I you know I talk to -- are registered Republicans who said they had someone knocking on their door on Election Day saying.

Have you come to vote yet let us take -- to the polls from the Obama campaign so it was very organized well.

And and remember this.

That elections like this you cannot.

Overstate the importance of the people who stayed home many many the couple million really.

People who work potential Romney voters that I don't care for either of these guys I think out of state.
