So one president and the brother of another is rumored to be considering a run for the White House in 2016 here tonight to weigh in on everything from the sequester.
The debt the national security issues we face immigration which is a topic by the way it was brand new book it hit bookstores -- hits bookstores tomorrow.
Author of immigration wars forging an American solution.
Former Florida governor Jeb Bush our governor good to see if I'm fantastic happy if that's still better here some years he is -- a good this is our hospital in moms taking care of women.
His -- -- in the house and he's recovering -- little by little certain very tight family.
I know that you all have.
It's -- -- you hear art bush 41 bush 43 bush 45 does that mean you'll be left the door open this morning so I got to -- guide you know I did because I didn't say no but it's three years out or four years out from election so I'm.
I've what I've decided is not to worry about it not to think about it.
Continue on the path -- on and -- upfront about it this is way too early to be making those kind of decisions.
And you know maybe it's a little odd that there'd be three.
People from the same family being present out of 45.
Presence of -- little strange.
But I'm not gonna shut the door completely either of them it's not I don't wake up each day frightened about and I'm not going to when I when -- interviewed your brother he wants you to run but I know we can tell you know he's a look at what he's an accident once and while he does occasionally.
-- -- That's what I say well my guess he has a lot of faith and incompetence and yet.
Let's talk about this president one of the things -- I'd like to get your thoughts on and you've discussed in the past.
Barack Obama has blamed George Bush an awful lot.
In the last four plus years what is your reaction -- that while the president was dealt a tough hand.
When he became president there were a lot of really tough.
Circumstances that he had to deal with.
And it might be natural to try to push down the guy before you to make yourself look better during difficult circumstances but it's been four long years now.
It's time to accept responsibility for the economy that we have been for the policies that have.
I think created tepid economic growth.
The whole issue that seems -- mission missing in Washington DC these days is how we create sustained.
Because -- won't solve a lot of the problems the partisan divide would begin to.
I think -- shrink pretty pretty dramatically if we had an energy strategy that created American jobs.
We created 21 century regulations and accomplish the same task at a lower cost tax reform education reform through the whole slew of things the president could be advocating that he is.
Constantly campaigning and costly dividing the country.
It's I don't that you got as bad as last week and I think he's done a lot of dividing as you point out over the years.
You know I look at North Dakota where they've been drilling on private land -- and report came out a little bit and just last two weeks of shows we are the energy -- now the world those -- the Middle East anymore.
With oil -- fracking natural gas etc.
Couldn't -- sort of make that boom in North Dakota happened nationwide.
We could I mean there are there reserves in New York there are significant.
Gas reserves using this new technology.
Or new generation -- the fracking and horizontal drilling which are all technologies applied in a new way in California.
Certainly in texas' there's an explosion of drilling that's creates a tremendous opportunity.
But what we need to do is to find new uses for natural gas.
May be the Boone Pickens idea of taking commercial trucking.
And converting it to natural gas certainly the new power could capacity that's going to be built should be natural gas.
There's a lot of ways that we can use.
Strategic policy to be able to increase demand.
To lessen our dependence upon sources of -- last year even -- the -- -- 3300 billion dollars of money went out to countries.
Most of which either hate us or unstable and could learn to hate us in a heartbeat.
-- what do you make of the economy we just had the big sequestered.
Yeah issue that the world still going as we know what fairly good day one we're OK they won't -- it looks like we're doing OK here.
Earlier this morning use said that.
-- -- may now be that the time for tax increase she said.
The idea of it being part of a package.
As governor did you -- -- raise taxes they don't call how many times you cut taxes I cut taxes every year when I was governor every single year.
And and then back to me.
Growing the economy would create exponential revenue.
Much more than this effort to try to redistribute wealth the strategy for the president isn't to create revenue to deal with our structural deficits it's to.
Create a a new America through redistribution of wealth -- successes penalized at the expense of those that are.
Struggling and what we ought to be doing is building capacity for those that are struggling so that they can be successful as well.
That's what's missing in the debate.
But my point of view is that we shouldn't be drawn lines in the sand if we have structural problems that are going to be the demise of the country and I think our deficit problems.
Ten years from now will overwhelm us.
Then we shouldn't be saying no no no no we ought to be offering alternatives like Paul Ryan did on.
On Medicare and we should constantly do that Republicans are gonna wind being against what the -- what the president's doing we need to be against him in a -- way.
But also advancing a positive agenda how would you deal with the president demagoguing.
Republicans their plan is for dirty air dirty water I say that all time -- the Republicans they won't they -- -- dictate they wanna hurt you what are you gonna do you say when during a -- Do you want to hurt poor children or disabled children.
You know I don't I think that's a winning issue anymore I think the people we're gonna tire that -- but we what we have to be is positive and hopeful and offer an alternative.
There there are solutions of the problems we face that mean we have to be supportive of the president's approach or supportive of the demagoguery that you described.
But we ought to be offering something more positive than -- against I think that Republicans have communications issues I think they have.
They don't have discipline -- and messaging.
I think the Democrats do because of the -- has balance every Democrat you know you'll -- balance it's harder as the opposition party with disparate voices to speak with one voice and we've we -- clearly done that.
I kinda like Dan manager's idea that he wrote it about -- Wall Street Journal which is to have a spokesperson.
Be able to speak as though he or she preferably if she was part was really the final she worsened because I think we need to also.
Recognize the world is changing demographically and that would be part of it it's a signal sent that -- inclusive but irrespective of that.
The fact is we should have one voice we should be the loyal opposition and -- you know a shadow government that our advocates.
Use different views on health care on tax policy and education policy ought to be the norm and in fact today didn't.
You do what in this interview the always surprised because you sort of left the but I think -- an Amazon let I've never done that and to me that would be the very last option I just think.
I just I'm not big on Simon pledges or -- not big on you know.
Saying that never never never that's just not the right approach when we have huge problems -- our country.
Should regain its footing our country is the greatest country on the face of the earth -- -- -- to assume.
That are on the current path that were on foreign trouble we're in deep trouble and so -- liabilities make it.
It compounds -- divided government you can't just say it's my way or the highway neither side I would come back -- talk about your book out next governor.
