And -- is the immigration debate continues to challenge the nation former Florida governor Jeb Bush is proposing a new approach to the issue.
Based on America's greatest value freedom and in his new book.
Immigration wars forging and American solution.
-- potential 2016 presidential candidate outlines a six point strategy for reworking our current.
Immigration policy now these include stem to stern immigration reform involving a new bipartisan solution.
A demand driven system recognizing the global competition for immigrants and increased role for the states based on their various needs when it comes to immigrants.
Dealing with current illegal immigrants an alternative to deportation.
Border security creating up more effective vis a system in a relationship of Mexico.
And then lastly -- an education program to teach aspiring citizens about our nation's founding values and principles and democracy.
And still with me to elaborate on those six points -- much more and their plan for real reform is former Florida governor Jeb Bush joining us also the coauthor of the book.
On immigration Clint Bolick is what those guys -- -- sequence but awhile but to see it too good to see Sean.
-- hot button issue one of the things I was surprised about -- that you're not saying citizenship.
For those that are here.
Illegally.
Yeah I think the the issue is it should be easier to come to our country legally.
Then illegally.
And that there should be a different consequence.
Or we're going to have another magnet for illegal immigration.
Whatever we do we don't want to recreate what we've had over the last twenty years.
And so.
An open legal system that we don't have today the worst of people wanted to come from another country they can't because the lines are so long effectively there aren't a lot of almost encouraged them come -- -- have to absolutely yes so that's -- that's the difference is a path to legalization not to leave the country.
They'll be given afforded the same rights still be out from the shadows.
But I think the basic principle is in order to get comprehensive reform.
In order to persuade many conservatives that are concerned about both the lack of rule law this is a proposal that.
That might find support.
I've I've interviewed you now on this Marco Rubio on this and Rand Paul on this and I think between the three -- you there's a solution.
I like your idea that sorry if you didn't respect our laws and sovereignty.
Will -- -- pastoral green cart.
I like Rand Paul saying that we've got.
The secure the borders first and verify it before we move forward you disagree in the book definitely disagree with that that is like -- that is like doctors saying we're not gonna treat the cancer and told the symptoms go away.
Basically.
You cannot secure the border until you have illegal immigration system that works.
Why are these people like me -- that you do that why it why can't you secure the border first so it.
I don't -- -- use an analogy because we're talking about people's lives some worried about terrorists that don't have our best interest at heart.
But if you but if you both -- -- -- plug up the hole and then you bail out the water right and I we we take terrorism very seriously in the -- we talk about ways to deal that happened in terms of illegal immigrants.
We come from people who -- a lot more than people are risking today and overcame obstacles far greater.
We're not going to stop it.
We're not gonna stop people coming to pursue the American dream until we give them any realistic hope of coming into you solve these problems.
Together not one in its top sixty I would be willing and people get mad at me when I say this I would be willing to support either your plan or combination of your plan Marco Rubio is -- Rand Paul's plan.
If we secure the border first this is a big deal for a lot of conservatives it is it is but -- what we're saying is in order to secure the border over the long haul.
You have to deal with the fact that right now it's easier to come illegally than it is to come legally.
Mean and is what it is ridiculous for an immigrant nation.
To make it to make those incentives that perverse -- in in in 197070%.
Of our legal immigrants came would work -- us.
Today that number is 13%.
We need to fix that system and give people who want to come here for the right reasons a way to do it if we don't do that we're going to -- -- It is season -- greatest fear.
I understand -- because I think hidden in the past conservatives have resisted either path to citizenship.
Viewed as amnesty.
But I think most conservatives if they got out of this we're gonna control the border will be won't have a terrorist threat that we have to deal with which to me is the number one threat.
And then we -- the path towards.
A green card is your second I think they go for that.
Well you know only one that we wrote this book in in the summer of 2012.
If you asked this question in the summer of 2000 when will -- a lot of people were against immigration reform period.
-- making me so I and the and the and I saw you didn't -- -- -- the next day and -- so well.
We need to accelerate the publication of our book -- because there is a movement towards understanding that this is good politics and good policy they also the world has changed a bit.
But the simple fact is that the process in order to.
For conservatives to win.
Going forward we have to have a view on these really complicated stuff -- -- meant to the border so often.
And I've watched people that risked their lives only because they want a job I have a lot of sympathy and frankly respect.
For them that they want a better life for themselves I would like to think I would be as brave as they are.
But we've got to control borders because I have -- really worry about terrorists.
With that want to destroy well they've planned it.
It's important not to mix up those two things -- terrorism threat is incredible.
-- and so we've got to have biometrics for people who visit us.
Which are remembered now that over half from the people here who are here illegally.
Today overstayed their -- -- anything regardless of and so we need to deal with those issues and this is why we advocates.
We're comprehensive solution not simply walling off our southern border if you want to grow the economy.
We have to have aspiration -- immigrants that jumpstart that economic growth we have to have a world -- we look at unfunded liabilities and how do we ever pay.
Absolutely retirement Social Security Medicare obligations we have it's almost impossible destroyed -- We'll come back closing.
