Let's bring in AB Stoddard associate editor and columnist for the hill.
You know what Doug was just talking about in in ordinary businesses for instance if you were really in a world of hurt financially you would institute a hiring freeze.
Federal government hasn't seemed to think about that yet under this you know sequester -- -- Now in the problem is a -- that we don't really know how these cuts are being implemented and that's why we're not sure why different departments.
Can still be hiring when other ones are saying that the being cut indiscriminately.
And they're gonna hit serious programs that are necessary and productive and and really impact our readiness on the military side and ultimately be damaging to the economy that's why it's so mysterious the process of this -- And the way it was designed that it's hard for any of us -- Find reasons why they're still hiring it's going to be hard for them to explain.
Why they did but I suspect there will be hearing that's -- from months to -- the -- oversight hearings on Capitol Hill about.
Why immigration DT detainees were let go why they -- still hiring going on there's too much mystery surrounding there's -- and that's why.
It's it's more troublesome -- it is even substantively because no one understands -- what's going on.
Well one of president Obama's aides described it as sort of a self fulfilling kind of mess he came out and said you know and all -- you know food's going to be poisoned and and illegal aliens are going to be.
I'll let go of them in the sky is gonna fall essentially and here we are working -- and living under this -- and most people are noticing a huge difference.
Wright will no one expects us to feel the difference even the people who are the most worried about this for weeks -- Monster -- so it it where it wasn't supposed to be felt immediately.
We are going to hopefully see the congress to move ahead Republicans and the president and the Democrats.
With plans for budgeting for next year the sequester as it is gonna take us through September unless it's in trying to into law.
For the next ten years and they don't do anything to reverse that I imagine we're gonna see some attempts however.
You see Republicans already proposing ways to add flexibility.
To bomb the Pentagon say that they can cushion the blow of this -- -- so in the end.
If they can come to bipartisan agreement parts of the sequester that we're gonna be the most reckless.
Won't go away and Republicans have come up with a pretty aggressive plan for -- budget that actually balances.
Yes.
Part of the agreement between Republicans themselves to -- sequence this series of budget crises.
And put the debt ceiling increase off until.
Sometime this summer was an agreement that they would try to come out with an annual budget that that balances the books much faster than last time.
They were looking at 2040 this time maybe 20/20 three that's just ten years off.
And -- the some.
Republicans nervous because we're in such a period of slow world we're trying to absorb the sequester.
We're paying more in gas prices were paying the payroll tax Americans were spared from for a few years.
And the economy still fragile enough that if -- sequester -- impacts are damaging their very ambitious plan to cut more.
Including entitlements.
Might be -- met with somewhat of a backlash but all the experts say -- you have to cut entitlements if you're gonna get get your arms around this problem.
