This is Fox News alert we're now one step closer to knowing who the next Pope will be.
Welcome to a brand new live -- of America live everyone I'm -- camera out -- -- -- Kelly today.
The college of cardinals setting Tuesday as they start date of the conclave to elect the next Pope.
That afternoon a 115 cardinal electors will locked themselves inside the Sistine Chapel and remains secluded until a new hope is elected.
Other Jonathan Morris is a Roman Catholic priest and Fox News contributor -- father John.
Hey -- -- to do a -- OK so if the conclave starts on Tuesday.
When do you and other Vatican watchers think we will have a new -- If we think about the last conclave which is a very short conclave.
It was just four ballots for ballots against 2 ballots in the morning to ballots in the afternoon.
Is there is pretty quick it was pretty quick and remember that they started in the afternoon on the first day.
So in the last conclave 2005 the election of Ratzinger there was two ballots in the afternoon 2 ballots in the morning and then he was elected -- it was a very fast conclave.
I would say at most people would say right now -- in base in the situation that it won't be quite so fast you never know.
But remember that the cardinals a 115 cardinal electors are throwing out your ballots at the -- very beginning and seeing.
Really -- those cardinals who have the most support.
Then without much debate -- -- break into the next ballot.
And ended they say you know what -- voted for somebody who only get one vote while I'm gonna throw my vote to somebody else who has more support.
And it goes back and forth just like that until they come up with two thirds plus one majority.
A father John I was just reading on foxnews.com.
Get some of the issues of the cardinals have already -- disgusting.
At the meeting in there are -- Pope discussions.
Are the issues that they think the next -- we'll have to deal -- including inter religious just this.
Love and mercy bioethics.
And they have a lot on their plate what do you think the next Pope will have as.
His top focus.
You know all those things obviously.
Part and parcel of why it hope is all about that is as spreading the gospel message and also -- And dealing with other heads of state and in major political and social issues.
But the main focus is passing on.
The teaching of the church and the teachings of the gospel to the nest next generation but let me tell you Alison what's being talked about right now.
As the priorities.
In terms of selecting them the profile of the next Pope.
Number one.
Somebody was able to give a joyful.
An energetic and committed and convincing.
Explanation of what the church is all a bottle.
With so much secular station so many young people not attached to any specific religion.
And also with the scandals have to happen and the Catholic church and another churches SM number one priority a communication.
Okay -- communication of the gospel message and a joyful way that's what I'm hearing at least secondly someone who's able to govern.
That is there's been some there's been some major stories of scandal.
Right the data leak story and and and many others right end and their needs to be somebody who is able to actually manage all of these departments.
That are directing a church that has one point two billion members and those of the two priorities I would say.
In the end it's somebody was committed on an -- fallen and who who has fallen in love with the person Jesus Christ however.
Father John how they did an influence do you think geography will be a lot of people speculated.
That's -- and don't give some.
Some added -- to perhaps.
-- from Latin America even the US -- -- factor.
Well remembered for example second for 500 years have been only Italians John Paul the second a polish.
Pope broke that trend and then we have this.
Does Germany and Ratzinger was seen as this continuity figure I'm coming off of John Paul the second.
So that trend of -- Italians have been broken but they're still 28.
Electors among did at the -- that's a big block if they were to vote to block this quite a bit of division among them it seems right now in terms of who is the best person for the job.
-- -- If -- if if -- Italian is not the right person.
Then they're gonna start looking if -- somebody in -- -- somebody in Asia it doesn't seem to be somebody there doesn't seem to get candidates jumping out from those -- Condit concentrate now.
And you're going to the Americans.
So among the American among the Americans I don't mean just United States but Canada the United States Latin America South America who are the candidates.
Well there's 123.
That are coming up right now and there actually being done given a major consideration as you say Alison.
The fact that American cardinals are actually in the running.
Unheard of but they're very much being taken it's being taken seriously right now.
In the Italian press in the blogs.
And it's fascinating to watch it sure is and it will be fascinating to see what they settle on.
I don't have to tell you the large at the longest conclave ever.
Was two years and nine months long that was in the -- -- 68 it sounds -- you think this on will be shorter.
Know that you why -- it would definitely be sure orders they.
They now call at 888 conclave corn cloudy means they're locked up and after a little while they'll start taking a wait there.
Food rations I think you continue it won't be that long got -- there will be approved apple Pope very soon and they organize our eyes thanks so much for the update on the kind of closet are elements aren't.
