In the factor original segment tonight how to be a good leader.

That's the subject of New York Giants coach Tom Coughlin new book -- the right to win -- success in any field starts with superior preparation.

Coach Coughlin sat down with -- O'Reilly earlier this week to -- -- book and the current state of football.

It's a coach you're known as I -- stern disciplinarian you remind me of me.

-- they get on a throwback old school school yeah I can what's wrong whether that's good stuff now.

There's a difference in the football player today 2013.

And when you started forty years ago -- continue encapsulate that different.

It's certainly when you're at the college level you feel like you have you can make an impact on young people when they come to.

The pro games a little bit different.

What has happened over the years is if you -- prior to free agency.

When players were drafted they were -- your franchise.

So they were their values were a little bit different they knew they were going to be with you provided they could cut the mustard.

And that wasn't going to change -- free agency started.

Particularly when the media -- we've seen all the development of the social media etc.

got into the business.

These people now come out -- very much individualistic than many times they've been.

Talked to by either agents they've been influenced by family a lot of times you have guys coming out as juniors.

And they're not quite as mature as you'd like them to be but there's more more of that going on so what hasn't changed -- a question I would throw -- action.

But.

In this regard when you get a good person a good kid he wants to be the best he can be and he wants to be coached.

All right is it all about money now.

That's a lot of -- money and I think this is NFL stands for not for long path that's -- -- because as the interior is so high.

And these guys know what come out of college -- -- they know they got to make the money.

Now now when you motivated by money that's a little bit different than being motivated by that.

He that's right.

That's right how does that affect well it does but what you have to do is get beyond that.

And you're constantly struggling to pull the team together for them to leave those issues.

Outside of the regular season take -- business in the off season and when it comes to the regular season let's focus as a team on winning.

A -- like -- Burris who gets up arrested for a gone now put in prison there's a big time talent.

Giants went after -- -- them a lot of money we do okay.

How does a guy like that destroy his life did you speak to him didn't you tell me a -- it is not -- you take a gun into a Disco me that's not real good when you're making.

Eight million dollars a year.

Well in fact we're you know -- and won a world championship.

So we're coming back the very next year and then were well set that maybe do this again I think we're ten and one.

When that fateful night -- okay.

And then Plaxico.

Gets control shoots himself -- he's gone.

We go we win thirteen games that we get knocked -- in the first round of the playoffs.

Some people.

Closers when you're talking about team and it was not easy to get the Plaxico.

But what is it about a -- -- -- -- he's not unique there are guys is it -- background.

Is that what you're trying to fight through part of it is.

Part of it is a fact that is they've come along everything people of acquiesced to the minute and every phase because they're talented because they're good.

Maybe they've been catered to when they're in high school catered to certainly when they're college that they feel indestructible I can do whatever they want some -- -- above the law.

When you get into.

The fabric of the game.

Does -- brutality bother you as a person.

The brutality does bother you.

But that is an area that obviously is coming to the forefront now with the with the helmets and a concussion and what I guess is as state quote the godfather it's the life you've chosen so life we've chosen certainly it's very competitive certainly it's a violent game.

That's a collision sport if you will.

But that's the nature of our business and fortunately.

With conditioning and strength develop -- those kinds of things people do protect themselves as well as they possibly can finally when you have to cut somebody that.

You have to do it right yeah it's difficult it's not easy especially when you talk -- team you're preaching team.

You feel like you're surrounded with a right individuals when you find the young man who gives a -- -- works as hard as he possibly can but.

Maybe is just not quite good enough that's tough.

Let's talk but the book is earned the right to run and -- and he certainly have won it we appreciate the recession coming and thank you bill appreciate.
