Morning -- I'm Doug -- -- here with.
Pat -- and John we'll bleary my colleagues on political insiders.
-- -- -- -- Today where we left off yesterday.
On the Fox News Channel was one very important addition.
Pat -- -- out of sick -- he's back with us and he's -- -- off today.
And tell us what's really happening with the president the budget sequester the continuing resolution.
All in under five minutes -- something I like this Saturday night -- yeah monologue exactly yeah.
Well first bullets deal with this question for how to first of all you know feeling better I'm feeling better yes I'm -- much better I was did it was so bad yesterday.
Okay let's let's live lives request to skip this question.
The sequester issue is simple we've jumped the shark is so I think is a common phrase in Hollywood when I was there when the president shut down the White House tour.
In order punish the American people in the children of America.
It strikes me that what we're seeing across the -- whether it should release prisoners.
That the department's.
Or on furloughs the but the government is being instructed to do is -- -- medical tremendous.
Memo.
-- agricultural department.
He's conflicts as much pain as possible the American people so the president can make -- -- -- political points against the Republicans.
This is after having screen that the sky is falling and it didn't fall.
The reality of which is of course is -- still spending more money that we spent last year.
As you pointed out John we're spending this equestrian not 85 billion it's forty sell -- the rest of the year.
It is -- you know in every program itself because only in Washington is a budget consider cut what -- -- your rate of increase.
In fact Paul Ryan yesterday in his talk said that -- great plan other than bout featuring Medicare which will get to.
Was home.
Was that he was gonna cut the -- -- spending to four point 9% from five point something -- three point nine from four.
-- this is insanity.
-- people get to go wouldn't automatically deplete their budgets every year and didn't say -- toll primary stuff.
Why this is happening I believe it's happening because the president's numbers went down why is out reach out reaching to the and that's why his numbers went down what is his response he makes -- -- -- reaching out to Republicans.
Claiming he's trying to get a grand bargain Q can we put holes three up -- to Pat's point about poll numbers.
If you see here and John -- -- your reaction.
President's approval.
And quinnipiac was 53% in December 46 in January 45 now a drop of eight and approval gain of six and disapproval.
Do you by -- -- thousand I think the sequester is by eating the Democrats more than the Republicans as I said yes I have not heard of one Republican.
Who is upset over the sequester after a week -- haven't heard one complaining that we should stop it.
But when the house voted on a continuing resolution last week.
It did that kept the sequester cuts and it.
The Democrats -- the ones who were squawking about it.
So politically it's backfired on the present and his poll numbers show it.
-- the outreach starting last week to the Republicans.
Where that goes as there is another question but.
I think that explains it.
And then let me put up slide don't want.
-- -- could.
Which is who do you blame for the sequester.
It's 3833.
For the Republicans.
This is down from what I think was 49 is like two little ones I remember.
4922.
Right -- one barely look at -- Yeah this is this is what's hurting the president.
Is that the realization.
And the fact that enough stories even in the mainstream media filter out the world and come to winning and -- people -- cut cuts and spending.
The problem we have is that the president refused -- authority.
To which he could be views to.
Balancing cuts mood a little -- didn't hurt people but look these in the business of politics this is nothing less than we've spoken about for a month.
Which other people I noticed don't have jumped into now.
Good a week ago the president's -- goal was -- Republicans how long we've talked about that.
I think the real problem here again is if they won a grand bargain if someone needs a vision.
I will say this about the Republicans they are gaining -- some even wall leaving nothing because he still don't know how to have an -- if I didn't give it.
Let me just say this to feel -- either any of us and India and issue.
Like the closing of the White House tours for children.
We would not have not made this the issue of the time is the iconic moment of what the president wishes to -- win one trip.
One vacation with paper of the White House toward one of the president's vacation.
This thing of you know of what -- -- cake which use the Obama's.
Reaction to the world.
Nothing to do it in the white house of live it up they don't want don't vacations a little bit and -- I don't listen I think we were the Republicans will not fight -- -- -- ten days and to sequester and it has changed.
What we're really talking about we're not talking about the dinner at the Jefferson Hotel -- speak to the dinner at the Jefferson.
I'd like to put up this or why can I gave you an idea about it you can but let's put up the -- with the senators who are there so the viewers at home concede.
Who was there we have the Bob.
Parker Kelly I asked John McCain Dan -- Tom Coburn Richard for Lindsey Graham and Saxby Chambliss.
John Hogan Ron Johnson Pat Toomey and -- -- So we have at least three Tea Party.
Very conservative.
Senators here who -- in this thing but I wanna go back on the things they sequester began.
Friday night march 1 we sense -- learned that that night.
Bill and Hillary Clinton had dinner with the president and mrs.
Obama the living quarters America.
The weekend comes we now learned the president started calling Republican senators.
One of whom was Lindsey Graham and by Monday they put together this dinner for Wednesday night.
It wouldn't surprise me if Bill Clinton fits if he were president he'd be doing this all the time if he.
Put the bug in Obama's here that now is the time mentally Terdell Sands governor -- right there's so we have the dinner on.
Wednesday night we have Paul Ryan.
And Chris van -- together have lunch with the president on.
Thursday and then this week we have four meetings on Capitol Hill.
For the president's going up there to meet the house GOP caucus of democratic all that he's meeting everybody.
So something has shifted because of the numbers we just said now the issue is is it just cosmetic.
To Jack his numbers back up and then we'll be back to where we war.
Or the White House said we want a grand bargain by the end -- a -- that's a pretty specific statement from White House.
This -- I would be asked for what are you doing about program or and they can't just always blame it on the Republicans can't -- that.
-- the so far that's been their strategy look I -- a -- ice on election night.
I didn't leave -- -- though everyone was saying the president will change till now obvious Wagoner Brenda.
I said.
-- did not -- that people or what they are.
He will become even more partisan that has been the case.
I'm sort of be mr.
cynic in this I suppose the test is in the putting but I've watched him now for what is it five years and all this.
I believe to nothing he's doing is not calculated some -- politically.
I think the thing with Paul Ryan this is set Paul Ryan -- -- destroy this sort of and I think Paul Ryan -- begging to be the straw men because.
He's political I Q is almost zero in he is about to take the Republicans down the road.
Of total disaster -- Medicare.
Which is what his want to kill the mall -- has been for -- we've talked of.
That's how long those guys -- -- you here and halfway through here is summer of G1 it'll help out himself he this man is out of control.
-- -- -- -- by the way all the other Republican members are voting for the -- Ryan Medicare and Paul Ryan Medicare plan in this -- the absence of a consensus in the country.
Obama needs to be done -- so -- side.
He's political suicide the president I think is setting -- -- hasn't even sharpening his night with his.
New plans that are potentially turn the whole thing into a voucher.
Yes that's -- everybody under 56 years old and he's adjusted it to make it even bill notion that you -- -- homelessness.
Without any consensus the country we're spending Republicans -- Republicans over.
-- by the way the other thing that he said yesterday that that goes hand in hand as he said we have a plan we Republicans have a plan to balance the federal budget in ten years.
And when asked on one of those shows just say how he said we're going to eliminate -- -- and that will balance the budget now politically.
Let's face it we're not eliminating -- -- any time soon unless it runs aground and is such a disaster.
That there is a political consensus in both parties that have to be adjusted.
It -- that fight is over.
Yet -- always -- -- getting rid of the last year when Paul Ryan among others through the issue.
And so for him to come back now and talk about -- we have is about as ludicrous as all the other side of my -- no I think I think you're exactly right.
The point is pat the Republicans -- all over the lot.
Their lack of strategy a plan.
A narrative they don't -- for any credible alternative to the Democrats and they're not going to until.
They have a party wide narrative about jobs economic growth and entitlement reform something that speaks to -- the Republican.
Party wants to take their country their needs to be one senator or congressman who does that Mobley wanna make at all and -- set up puts it -- -- plan.
And goes to every member insist this has to be our platform for the next year through the 2014 race he would end the bush library titles before we go to a break.
I'd like to put up on numbers six and play the sound bite about the people's house and get -- Johns quick.
Reaction now this is really what the White House is all about and I say this all the time it's the people's house.
It's a place that is steeped in history but it's also a place.
Where everyone should feel welcome.
And that's why my her husband and I have needed our mission to open up the house.
Two -- -- many people as we can.
There.
So pat what do you make of that.
I mean -- what I said -- I think it's a wonderful contrast I think between that in their vacation when they're planning for Martha's Vineyard.
Which would cost the American people taxpayers millions -- millions about or -- -- -- -- golf -- at the golf weekend which could -- the White House court.
What I don't understand is why in the opposition to Obama there is not a narrative that takes bats off right there.
In contrast to their vacate and talks about hurting children to make political points or credit.
Good contrast to what the fact that it's 181000.
Dollars a week they're gonna say by stopping the -- eighteen grant.
But for 500 grand if you donate to this what's -- -- American portrait -- getting more more private meetings -- -- -- president they did get it there.
This is this is the problem but again the president could go on vacation at the taxpayers' expense.
-- an ordinary people come to Washington State and barrels a dime -- -- CPR house that's the issue and that's the story of a president who's.
Basically as I said he had her let me Kate.
We have the boat we this is what we do visible -- most imperial presidency since Nixon.
Poll I think he's acting a little -- that the apple I think he's really matching Nixon but don't know I've never know the president took a lot of this way.
To purposely try to hurt people.
In this country.
Rather than say -- -- we have -- quite -- how do we make him make it work back to what.
Because my political goals in you know what -- assumed political find out just how -- the American people -- or not.
In news reports over the girls who Seminole -- there we're gonna turn to a bunch of politicians.
In the second after -- break.
For psychedelic jungle where I invite you to stick with -- we'll be back.
Welcome back I'm Doug shown here again with back to bell John absolutely -- And pat what did you make a -- -- Thirteen hour filibuster political theater or standing up for principle well I thought he was trying to stay in the principal.
I don't think that that what -- regret.
This principle again he is a libertarian.
It is a question about what -- of this constitutionality.
I don't care what people argue whether it was purposeful -- it had a huge impact.
It's one of those things one of those moments we rarely see an American politics.
We're somewhat actually breaks through the -- In him it was the physical act of senior thirteen hours of making his case -- be you know against the question of government all power to the government.
And over the issue of the -- issue can you -- an American American -- Look a lot of Americans are concerned about what we have control program with a presence -- -- room and -- sell parts to kill people overseas I do.
That this is something to do it by its normal ideology on the one hand you have the McCain's ingredients of the world who wishes as -- -- to have the entire.
Worldly battlefield including this country who are attacking a trip Democrats attacked as they don't know how well was really sad to me.
Is that if this had been to the drone program we're going on under George Bush -- -- -- you amend the president would be under under impeachment I mean there would be proceedings a reference to impeach him.
Watching only one democratic senator I give him great credit.
-- more Ron Wyden Oregon stand up with -- calls it this a problem when the entire left in this country has has basically.
Put the -- basically east -- all all of its principles in defense of Barack Obama.
-- -- pouring to meet the liberals and people who care about civil liberties are so silent on these issues.
And we have a president believed he'd thought about imperial present I'm killing but he and George Bush or not that different.
In their attitude about presidential power.
And ray and Paul -- trying to make bad issue I thought and I thought he had a breakthrough what it tells us.
To be just a Twitter -- what ever you think about the sums -- but there was a way to energize the country.
And there is in and I think everybody was surprised my wrong John this.
Now I I look I think number one as we said yesterday 26 team Rand Paul saw a chance to busy running joke of course he's -- And he is the successor to his father.
That group of voters young people specially he will get them and don't go after more he's in.
I think he's gonna try to be a legitimate.
Contender for the nomination.
And that.
And I think he thinks he can do with this kind of libertarian non interventionist.
Thank you.
And -- a growing way of thinking.
Inside the Republican or what do you think.
I think that it's it's.
A larger principle what is the role the United States what is the rule of our foreign policy in terms of both the use of American power in the limits of American power -- Pat was right for -- first comment.
When he said that this is a case of one man making a statement making a judgment.
And making an impact on policy in a way that as -- We've done -- done before and hasn't been done recently so I think that that is very important but I also return John to your point and it leads me to my next question.
We had Jenna Bush yesterday doing a full -- doing five.
Sunday shows.
To Monica Lewinsky's lawyer who -- five.
And then was never heard from again and -- over there and a half so my question is is Jeb Bush running John.
I'll assume yes why do -- because when in doubt -- -- file you you wanna have.
A way to look at a politician always assume he's running always assume he's lying always is something trying to raise money.
It's MI wrong track a month the -- -- like -- so that most major league baseball players take steroids now we're supposed to assume.
Now you're guilty you're innocent till proven guilty.
No longer -- the case I think we're so cynical -- politicians.
-- -- they say I'm not running their running he didn't say it was running just set I haven't decided yet.
But you don't go on five shows and all the other shows during the week -- much you are running.
But pat albeit from a recording what he's -- is running -- of -- your own book before -- -- 1000 to see what goes on the shows and contradicts the book that has his name -- the.
Pat I looked at the polls I know you do as well the only one who's competitive with Hillary Clinton.
Is Chris Christie -- -- what's gonna well I think Chris Christie's competitive because he has made himself pretty non -- way more nonpartisan figure.
He has you know he basically the -- -- he was the darling of the Republican conservatives two years ago.
Now some of them very upset with him because of the sandy and Obama he did Medicaid.
-- -- he's running for reelection is very popular but he seems appeal to independents and others because he seems to be not be typical Democrat or Republican.
And that's it tells you something Jeb Bush for all the talk about Jeb Bush I believe may have missed -- called -- -- missed his moment.
Because now -- he's and is again one of these people every team he's contrived the only time schedule.
No more runs for president because they basically of -- visit my god I believe the countries in danger right field this this important.
And I think Jeb Bush is playing that typical bush game and the question he's getting his rear end handed to him right now by Hillary Clinton.
And I think that with the -- Christine numbers prove he's at the country wants something else it may not be Christie Christie has his own problems.
But are they want something else and by the way I think Christie's probably got a better chance Corning is an independent than he ever does anymore getting -- No -- and Jeb Bush that I thought of this morning's that we had the first President Bush the father of course.
When George W came along he ran for president.
And did everything opposite of -- spot.
So the father raise taxes on cutting it we've and we don't need to father didn't go after Saddam -- go -- after we did everything to be the opposite.
I now look to jet this weekend he's trying to be the opposite of his brother.
His brother was set in stone I'm gonna do this well.
Intractable.
Jeb Bush suddenly is very malleable one amenities for the path to citizenship the next he's not he's back.
I think he's all caught up in what to do -- run to run away from my brother -- a big albatross around my -- -- this.
Hillary Clinton.
How well positioned to Chicago.
Pop current rate now -- greatly position.
But that's that you don't -- a lot of issues here.
She's out as she came off being secretary of state I still think have been -- thing could really do damage to her if this thing -- blows up.
I think the problem in -- real question for me and a lot of Americans -- Wait a minute.
Just how many generations of Clinton's and bush we have to endure.
Before we have Sunday it only interceded how are just think that's going to be an issue if there are -- nomination for the holidays -- -- -- right now she's got it that's in march of 2000.
Thirteen that is don't you forgot it was three years on the situation ago nor is it clear by the way that I think there are people who Brady's.
Did you know -- the questions about her health and whether this is something she wants -- I think if you can do which -- will.
And I think she strongly position.
And I think could do of the politics will change along to on how to use it.
Well we talked a little bit about -- -- As of today she's running.
Her husband's gonna run the campaign the husband's gonna spearhead raising two billion dollars.
No one more run against -- to underscore that for viewers to billion with a B any sort of got commitments for a hundred million he's telling people and therefore that will stop any legitimate democratic opposition to get Biden forget Cuomo forget Deval Patrick forget.
The governor Martin O'Malley none of them leave and run.
She will coast be the nominate have all the money in the bank ready for the general election.
For a Republican to run against that -- all that she brings to the table.
But there's one problem -- -- I don't think she's a very good politician I think she ran a crummy campaign 208.
Could she blow to us -- that looks such -- -- -- and break off there but could she blow this thing undeniably between twenty.
Thirteen which it is now it's funny sixteen we will discuss that in every other topic related to the election in great detail.
For John absolutely -- for Pat Caddell I invite you to join us it.
525.
On Sunday on the Fox News Channel will be back here next Monday on the web at 10:30 AM.
And for political insiders on Doug -- thanks for joining us.
