What -- questions today about whether the US media needs to do some serious soul searching.
As we see big negatives from the president's health care -- starting to unfold not all negative but there have been some very negative developments.
Check out these headlines a thousand jobs lost in Colorado due to a new tax on medical devices.
While another 950 are lost due to a series of cuts to Medicare payments.
And with more than 7300 full time jobs now converted to part time.
Do -- employer mandates under Obama care.
Our next guest says he wonders if the media did any homework at all on this bill before was eventually signed in -- law.
Goldberg is editor at large for the national review and Fox News contributor journal welcome of the program.
Interfere you have a really interesting piece posted an end in all of our care we've heard so much back and forth over -- much.
And so many promises were made and there's no question that some of those promises are falling apart and that's not to say all of the -- some of them are.
And you're position is that not only did the media dropped the ball in advising folks of the potential pitfalls of this -- prior to being passed.
That -- really not doing anything now to advise folks up the broken promises and what it means to that.
Yet another that's right and and -- -- not everything has gone bad yet but I come from a certain biblical tradition that says no matter how bad things are right now they can always get worse.
A problem but.
It's absolutely true that the the of the -- the mainstream media they covered the arguments about Obama care basically -- a pure power politics partisan fight.
And whenever a partisan whenever the mainstream press cover things like a partisan fight you can count on the New York Times the Washington Post.
ABC and CBS and the rest to take basically the Democrat side.
And I remember after obamacare was passed out was was held constitutional by the Supreme Court they ask.
NPR's.
Health care correspondent.
You know -- -- the losers here and the only losers you could come up with where the people in states that work was governor -- weren't going to accept all of -- -- provisions.
And insurance companies who needed the penalty to be even greater on obamacare other than that everything was going to work great.
Because that was sort of the position of the mainstream media took that conservatives.
Critics including like very serious health care economists who pointed to problems we're just sort of partisan Ding bats and -- you know and and sort of moon bats for -- thinking that any of this could go wrong that may be.
The government can't planned 15 -- 17 of our economy perfectly.
And one of it one of the main issues.
That some more concerned about prior to the passage of obamacare was whether.
There's no question that those who don't have insurance -- would probably some of them be better off after obamacare not Alter.
But some of them.
But there was a real question about people who party had insurance who have it now would be better off after the passage of the -- President Obama.
Made the rounds repeatedly saying don't worry if you like your health care plan if you like your doctor.
You don't need to worry here's a sample of that if -- -- -- react.
Sure if you like your doctor.
You'll be able to keep your doctor period if you like your health care plan.
You'll be able to keep your health care plan.
We're here no one.
Won't take it away that no matter what.
It's just not true it's -- that just did not turn out to be true at all.
Yeah that's that's what scientists and philosophers call a big fat lie and I think he knew that at a time in fact when he was.
Confronted about the fact that obamacare was going to virtually force.
Private employers to drop people's health care plans.
Is that why I never said that the employer had to stay with the health care plan I just a bit if you want to keep it you know still being provided you can keep it.
And we of one of the ironies of this is not just that the private sector.
Big employers are dropping people out of their health care plans it's not just that small employers are.
Some of Obama's biggest constituencies state employees the government employees.
Teachers unions the AFL CIO the Teamsters they're all getting extremely nervous that their hard won in carefully negotiated.
Gold plated Cadillac plans are going to be dropped or become vastly more expensive under Obama to.
-- -- put -- your -- on national review that's estimates from the CBO now which you know the president relied on in in passing obamacare for its estimates.
Now says that between five and twenty million Americans are gonna lose their existing plants between five and twenty million Americans.
And that is a low estimate if you if you look outside of the CBS -- -- it's even higher wanna ask you about another thing -- out as the deficit.
The president said that obamacare would not add one dime.
To the deficit.
And now.
Once again we have -- from the government from the government accountability office's office saying.
It it's not gonna add one dime it's going to add a whole bunch of dimes.
Yes -- -- like something like you know like six point two trillion dimes or by a Barbie even more than that -- it's exploiting sentiment.
Six point two trillion.
Over 75 years isn't that going to be a long time but it is -- -- the deficit according to our and that's a lot of time.
It's at an earlier you said and I think -- it and -- a -- point to say that the people who didn't have insurance are gonna do better under obamacare and that's true.
But in a certain sense.
It's sort of like saying we have a Titanic going down going down but -- to get a much better cabin.
The entire economy the entire budget is being blown up and the country is sinking in debt.
And to add these -- at bats more entitlements.
And more people onto a system that isn't working is pulling -- under it may be good for those individual people in the short term.
But in the long term it is bad for everybody.
We -- -- point about the media and where we all fall on this John thank you thank you.
