And hi everybody I'm Rick Sanchez and probably heard the word by now right -- of most pop we have a Pope.
And I suppose it would be appropriate given that we have a -- from Latin America.
That we could probably say today dwindles the F sub totals -- Siskel chugging its video -- on what he'd go.
Long little -- but with the new Pope that we have.
For one point two billion Catholics around the world I suppose he would -- -- -- -- -- as he did yesterday as well but look at these pictures.
I mean was this something to behold.
And the spirit and the energy that came from.
That place yesterday Saint Peter's Square as we watched.
The new Pope somewhat you know slouching.
Showing physically and hope he uses a man.
A man who is extremely humble in fact.
The very first words that came out of his mouth interestingly enough were worth taking notice we have -- we share them with you here.
-- -- -- -- -- Game.
Million.
That TD other -- playing -- ways to give room edition and the decade.
Community has independents like my Brothers -- cardinals.
-- plenty to find him at the end of the world almost -- But here we are.
You've had to be an end of the world to fight do but.
Here we are as if to say here I am interestingly enough it's position that he except this time although the first time.
You know he was also very high in the balloting when -- chose cardinal Ratzinger.
And there's a priest -- now quoted as saying a cardinal effects is quoted as saying.
That they -- him say as he looked at the image of Jesus Christ don't do this to me lord.
As if to say I'm too humble man to be given this position this time he has chosen the position but it's it's it's that humility that.
Tends to stand out.
More than anything else in the conversation.
About what it is that makes this man cool he is.
As.
The new pontiff for one point two billion Catholics let's go to rob shall we bright -- -- has been following this story -- has some.
Insights as to.
What -- what it is.
The -- makes Pope France's.
Exactly who he is -- -- started on this what are some anecdotes that you could.
Share with this Bryant as we ask you.
Who is this man.
While this man was cardinal Jorge Mario -- go to Leo the archbishop of when it was nice Argentina.
A 76 year old man who's known flooding tango.
Getting up at 4 o'clock in the morning going to sleep at 9 PM.
Eating dinner -- his own small apartment and he cooks himself.
Riding the subways with the -- people in Argentina on this may -- that is -- palace in this country yet.
That's just a sign of his humility so when he was made -- France's last night in front of the entire world.
It is said that inside the Sistine Chapel as soon as the vote was done usually the Pope sits in a thrown in all the cardinals -- up to him.
Well he didn't do that he stood.
And received all of his brother cardinals won by one after that.
The limousine was ready to take him after the ceremonies and is that have taken a couple of magazine well he decided take the bus just like all the other cardinals.
Back to that doesn't -- a month when they were spending their nights to retrieve his stuff.
And at the dinner just to show you a little bit of a sense -- -- since -- because of humor that he has.
He goes well.
May god forgive you for what you has done.
And god knows -- little -- that he did as he gave a little toast of the cardinals.
Isn't there also you know there's a story about how when he was the archbishop of Wendell site is he was offered a place in and -- -- you know a large fancy.
Home that they had four.
The archbishops in the past.
And he turned it down preferring to live in a small apartment right -- That's right.
You'd rather stay in a small apartment and make his own dinner I mean this is -- kind of man that.
We're dealing with there man that is loves is an advocate for social justice and for poverty he's a man of the people and a lot of people are already comparing him to Pope John Paul the second who -- beloved.
Everywhere who's on his way to becoming a saint.
And is a name in Latin America.
And all of Latin America especially Pope John -- -- to -- such a huge impact there.
Because he was a man of the people so this is what has everybody and let America sold side not only is he one of their own.
He's a passer and he's he knows what it's like to live among them.
Yeah I mean he's you know I was thinking yesterday when I first heard that he had chosen the name first of all I thought for sure there had to be other Francis.
I think we may have lost Brian there but I'm sure we'll get him back in just a little bit.
I was thinking out today as I was as I was going through the decision and they had just introduce to my thought to myself.
You know he's -- with Francis but isn't -- a jesuit.
I would have thought a Franciscan would have chosen -- as his name.
But he's chosen Francis because he is -- -- -- today a follower above Francis of Assisi and it's because he wants to live and has lived.
A very humble humble life.
And and yes I was surprised that he's the first Francis I would've thought that there have been.
Other popes haven't taken that name now Brian we got to back something's interesting one of the interesting things here is that he is.
Hope that as we suspected might happen was chosen from outside of Europe here here's an Argentine Pope but I -- -- And it just so happens that at I hope I don't have bears should Bryant but I want to share something you did for us yesterday.
There was a whole lot of people there who are from Latin America and even I think -- Indeed those who thought.
Maybe there's a chance at one of our guys could be selected because there were two -- about -- candidates.
Bryant was there -- right after the decision was made in right after he had come out and he's got eight now.
Where he got some of the first words of the first reactions from some of those -- and some of those people who traveled to to Rome.
Here it is let's play that -- we come back or get your reaction -- narratives.
-- In the game more -- million.
-- -- -- -- -- -- -- Given that you know maybe it's.
-- you know sic movements and he's -- these.
And we look you know.
-- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- I haven't -- -- CNN itself.
You could get one game.
But I found them.
-- -- -- -- Look identical -- minimum would you bet on something.
That's -- the -- valued at the united.
Video mobile music you have to let nobody gonna dissolve you outfitted here but I think it opened -- -- -- finally hit on the -- you can look at it.
We don't know no New England so but I -- very -- Put -- if we could -- see.
It's only good thing at this so it along we didn't know they could benefit available to look at it it's -- I -- I don't know if -- Papa.
Okay.
Well there's very.
And it's and we can be used consistently good news we're OK thank you need to season and -- my mom doesn't mean they're okay.
In the moment and if we don't what -- doesn't even if you know what I mean -- -- I don't know if it's.
Getting emotional.
It was in the moment.
-- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- Picked it up.
They should really.
Listen we have a lot of quality improvement community.
We want to -- It's amazing the -- -- and it was -- more amazing yesterday as it was actually happening now watching from across the pond as we've said.
Here in the US of the images were stirring for us.
I can only imagine Brian for you being there in that moment what it must of felt like can you.
Take us through it both through the sheer excitement and the fact that.
You two are Latino and it's the first time that we've seen someone from Latin America chosen to be pro.
You know Rick I've been to different sporting events and big events in my life -- and the United States but.
I've never been in a crowd.
Now was so excited and so full of emotion is just to see one man just to be -- part of something be a part of history.
I was sitting next to -- standing next to a couple Italians and as soon as they announced.
Deborah go Leo was going to be their -- they started immediately looking up who this man was kinda chatting amongst themselves and it was extremely quiet.
But as soon as they said.
-- -- -- Everybody started cheering and it was started getting louder and then all of a sudden especially at the very front.
Well our fellow Latinos are -- -- America.
Had their flags out and also in the Italian sort of started joining in in the an Indian -- -- -- -- Francesca I mean.
I -- -- response right now -- part of it it was a special moment eyes Dominican and being there I'll never forget it.
You weren't the only one getting goosebumps my friend great job Brian you really have done.
An excellent job reporting and making us get a feel for the sights and the sounds of that momentous decision.
By the way a lot of people have been reacting and joining us because of Fox News but you know we've had a chat page you can still go to -- by the way and if you'd like in fact when we invite you to do something here's an idea.
Why don't you go there now and start sending your question because I'm gonna be joined in year next by.
Panelists who are experts on the church theologians of course.
We're gonna take us through the questions of what next to was this man what kind of -- is he's going to be what are the issues if he's gonna have to deal with so go ahead.
Hit the link in fact we've got a couple tweets share with you already here we go this is Curtis tigers he says.
I've got to pull paying over that I don't wanna get over nice and Katie Grimes says.
Excited about the -- Francis let's open signals charity in the service of justice not as a replacement for -- well said.
We thank you for that when we come back our panel here.
On Fox News Latinos special report.
And I do want to welcome you back coverage Sanchez with the special -- Fox News allowed to you know it has been an exciting 24 hours hasn't it I mean.
To get the information first the smoke which surprised everybody a lot of -- -- -- -- try to figure out is okay.
Is is it is black.
His wife and could they have chosen so fast my goodness have only voted five times.
Well they did on the voted five times and we've got the first -- that a second half from the chimney and then the third one lo and behold.
We got some Pope or as they say of -- most Bob Bob -- joining us now is someone who's gonna let us talk about the Pope and really -- medical terms because there's some things that we've learned about him some revelations that.
-- most people who were not doctors as you are Dr.
Manny.
Yeah there's any.
You know I get a little.
You know you start getting a little concerned thinking -- -- 76 years old.
And he's missing a long.
First of all let's with -- long thing just to get out of the way at what I understand is that when he was a teenager he had some kind of infection right and the long had to be removed but that's strange.
Well it's not strange you know back in those days and especially where he was that.
I would argue that you there are certain types of infection.
You know from tuberculosis.
Which is a common infection.
Two other things -- -- -- antibiotics -- who were not readily available.
And therefore you know and those days I wouldn't be surprised to the doctors really have no choice but to say look.
He's getting recurring infection we don't seem to have the right antibiotic they belong now even today you know today -- -- -- which is called the removal of one long.
Is extremely.
Rare.
-- but it happens but can a person.
Lived a normal life -- -- -- how well perhaps it isn't hard to breathe though -- what kind of problems.
Let's that is that this is why god you know you lungs kidneys.
Our.
But they have the other -- -- -- -- that right so that that's exactly I was halftime with the pancreas right now to go with the Packers and other organs but allowed to -- music for sure and if so what -- by removing one.
Yes you lose I'll be alive because you get set number of mobile -- and those -- the kind of areas where the oxygen transport is made but nonetheless that -- that other long begins to then get sort of mid level into the chest.
Expands a little bit more and gets a little bit bigger and therefore.
-- -- -- a little vital capacity that was the air -- they look at us now court action makes up naturally as you get sick God's way in Iraq and and you know you live -- you know.
Yeah as you know can you run a marathon -- running six miles in that was probably know -- -- and doing it but you know they only concerned now because of his age you have to say well.
You know you have to be careful with pneumonia is and you know -- in any upper respiratory infection because now things are a little bit different.
So you know I'm thinking I was talking to a colleague a little while ago and I -- you know when I finally become 76 years -- I don't -- full time job.
I don't -- -- find out it's great for the mind.
Come on I mean they're great for the -- I want all day long so this guy -- that this guy's a superstar.
Superstar in my book.
I -- -- Mike -- -- -- indirectly.
It's an indirect way of asking -- this question.
76 year old is he fine can put it a full day's work is -- mentally capable of maintaining the concentration the focus it's necessary.
Listen the the depending on -- it's his life has been you know just reading that the -- -- are coming out on his life.
You know if you even if they say that the -- -- -- -- thirties there there OK no really that's so meadows -- metabolic and speaking half way.
Right now I don't give a -- -- they get younger right.
But -- metabolic -- locate he could you know he could be in his seventies and function as a fifteen year old individual.
His mental acuity.
But I think -- seems to be very sharp is a guy you know Jesuits are very learned individuals are very Smart they read a lot.
They think you allow they say he's lived the life -- -- -- so it's not like you have an and that brings me to the other point if you look at for instance the power of prayer.
In -- okay.
And there have been many studies that have come out looking at people that prey.
Consistently.
And what it does to their body to -- to the body physiologically.
You have reduction on cardiac disease you have reduction in blood pressure you have reduction on all of these factors.
That are issues that that the really make us sync as we get older.
So if this individual has been a man of -- for so many years and on the way.
And he's dedicated to prayer and meditation.
You can -- -- ninety's -- come on he is going to believe this was so obvious today and I you know I couldn't stop crime I was.
The real as anything because I think that this -- is a supernova.
I had the -- it had the same effect on me at one moment I comment.
He's in this you know national television and on the Internet but I got a little misty Caliendo -- absolutely it's a bit and I said.
You know.
It's okay.
-- -- I don't you know we're Hispanic -- we're not supposed to admit things like none on odd but I don't populist candidates ahead the it is but but it.
Had a good to -- they -- -- -- who they -- -- wake -- we didn't get a couple -- I asked you about.
Your comments and here we go we've got a couple of them now that I -- share here's.
-- -- -- For Pope Francis the rehearsals for Easter are going to be brutal and -- be breaking in those new red dancing shoes -- that app and that -- Lawrence writes to us.
Figures a bunch of -- white men would pick a Hispanic to do a job -- don't wanna do congratulations.
To the -- Territories that we got -- from the last couple of minutes here.
That Fox News -- you know when we come back the panel as promised theologians.
And the priests and of course we welcome you at all hours of the day to go to our web -- Fox News Latino and you'll see is there.
And all the handy work that we put together not just on this story.
But on all other stories affecting us as Latinos in the United States and beyond.
We'll be right back -- -- exceptions.
I guess it would be correct to say that now we get a chance talk to one of the runners up.
That's right father Timothy Dolan of New York the archbishop cardinal above New York.
It is -- about he had something as usual very unique language to use when describing.
Are new Pope uses the word greedy.
As if to put something special -- -- the meal that makes it even better here's how he describes.
The -- a man of god.
You when a man of good pastoral governance.
You when a man with a sense of the church universal you -- a good communicators.
And he fills those bills where he comes from his gravy.
And we got a lot of -- agree with him in common now from Latin America -- you talk about the booster shot.
To the church in.
In the Americas this is going to be real blessing.
Spend.
As we come back let me introduce you to my -- here first -- -- professor Maureen -- From Fordham University she is a professor of theology by the way should mention.
And over here to my right we have -- or and so -- don't father -- October.
A parish priest here in New York City at the church -- -- him -- from all perfect right here -- Manhattan for good to have you vote.
The what do you make of Bob Dole -- Tim Dolan cardinal Poland's -- sounding says.
It's like it's like putting gravy on on on a good meal the fact that we have someone from -- in America he's.
Speaking in many -- agreed to leave the government don't like because they think maybe because we -- means they had that torch he's you do have -- -- now.
That a -- -- it'll be hanging out freak we are proud as a priest wouldn't use all that they had picked someone from.
-- hammer out because.
They would -- Qaeda that'd be 115 got to that they -- -- -- -- -- Who we -- -- that got -- which I am but he broke because what they deep.
Well let's let me show somebody and I think this industry -- got a graphic I wanna put up let's put this graphic government shows.
Where the Latinos are in Latin America -- mean look at those numbers Mexico 96 million.
Catholics Columbia 38 million Brazil -- 134.
Million Catholics that's -- a lot of people thought.
That cardinal sure rare.
Was going to be chosen -- indeed -- two candidates.
31 million how important is this for the church and professor did you expect this to happen did you.
I know there was a lot of talk about it we've been talk -- about it all week but you know it in the recesses of my own instincts I said they'll never do it.
They did.
And had polished they had German Pope.
It seems like the next step and if this is great he will probably want another helping.
-- -- wonder what the dessert is let's talk about this man Francis Pope Francis.
Everybody's talking about humility with.
I mean me he has this -- story.
About how he was offered a chance to live in his castle a giant mansion there there he said no.
He doesn't take limousines he washes the feet of aids patients what.
Either one of you what what what what does that say about.
When how they communicate -- that the can have I'll leave because these -- government -- if you money if fits well known that people -- heat -- for the admiral to defy me you know.
He's gonna put it you know that's the second one beside -- And the content that you think is to be we think -- -- -- You know they have the confidence in me date which is -- -- -- you're lucky wouldn't have repeat what they delayed doing in the vehicle because of his great just great he's humbled me.
You know he -- poor man whose grace.
Except for the hum needed immediately accused right but they they kind of man the -- and that.
Is that -- -- that he that he needed knowing it could and couldn't west companies.
We -- what's so we'll bring -- -- priests it's recipes go -- that he he -- -- -- -- humble because they have and and when he became the -- shall.
Hole -- when a site is here and if fuel.
He refused to take -- departments.
He went leaving him to leave we've -- up by a man you know there's no difference between what you say and how you behave I mean actions are certainly might hear -- words.
It's interesting that when we look at this.
So.
This pontiff professor.
We see a man who's also.
A discipline Catholic we're not gonna get a reformer here right we're gonna get a guy who's -- pretty much stick to.
A man who's gonna stick to his faith and stick to the traditions of the Catholic Church.
Yes in terms of doctored quite.
Quite -- but the other part of the jazz went looking at -- is not only to imitate Jesus put too fine to look for Jesus.
In others so we'll have a big commitment.
To narrowing the gap between the few who have much.
And the many who have almost nothing but -- do you think it's controversial that good we have a jesuit Pope.
Well as product -- jesuit education and a professor at it from jesuit school I mean a lot of I think I'm sure it.
Me too by the way but I hear a lot of people say -- that's strange that they went with the -- with this time is -- very busy world because jazz would ordinarily do not see.
Print permanence and -- our offense they are content went.
What is their vocation which is to work it usually in schools and in service of the -- -- and he -- Is -- named Francis is two years and he's not a Franciscan.
But he seems to be at the vote tale of drugs is the season and in what will be manned space that we make on that -- it's that important -- today they make country with the gets it.
I had to put -- -- -- gets it for me to know I found him.
But that they have.
That would he's -- -- Right you know and they go to Winston leaving the gospel of the what do you -- -- radical radical he -- on the lead just basically.
Two lead in the -- would -- Not too much involved in that reaching this because by -- that tool is in the store he'd be in the church.
The -- -- west and the Pacific from the country for the Tony because the -- consequence they have been ready.
Because -- admitting that it dog -- -- that it's done with it meaning what -- -- decided to put it -- -- back.
They believe in Christ but they preach -- -- -- -- what about the controversies in the church right now it's.
He.
Given what we know about him and given what we have read about him and I defer to both the -- in this case.
Is -- the right man to take us through everything from the -- -- scandals supposedly.
Two.
The issues that will confront the church here in the United States where.
People want to modernize and people are saying why don't we let women become priests why don't we let priests get married.
If he's not the man who's gonna radically change any of those things but there's a lot on the table is.
Yes and there are a lot of things that he can do that -- on the table.
On in terms of roles for women he's not going to ordain women to the -- -- at -- to be at his back.
But it is possible for him to consider very seriously.
Immediate opening night opening but really opening their.
Women who would serve in paradise tickets as deacons.
In doing.
What we would call social services but also perhaps in helping the -- Well we'll see if these things I've got through because of the greatest post it was a though because it's and they -- openly admit that the holy spirit and the contents of the -- -- hasn't that children choose.
It do we need a third Vatican.
I -- although I think that gives our beat you so I'm not because the body can you hear -- some bit bit reaching.
But that we don't holding of the court but you can take one because we have a lot of -- -- is obviously being.
I -- maybe -- -- -- -- because you know that really what professor final word for you do do.
We know ankle on the play third brought the second Vatican council is this the man who could bring us to the third Vatican -- Perhaps not but the congregation of bishops before congregation cardinals.
Before the election before the conclave came real close to being.
What an ecumenical council would be vaccinated they are all there.
There's no -- telling them what to do their free to discuss and saying what their priorities for the church.
You guys have -- great thank you so much for being with us we really appreciate your time.
And that's it for us for all of us here at fox news Latino.
We thank you for being with us not just today but throughout the week we would have been here ready to keep you on.
