Or did -- drive but that must be where it's that because even a very fit John McCain couldn't cut pork.
From what lawmakers have coming down the pipe congress next week expected to take up what they call -- continuing resolution.
To keep the government lights on even as -- -- the ways coming as well senator welcome.
Do you always -- having -- -- Thank you meals could be back wouldn't you know I -- I'd be remiss if I didn't mention a special day yesterday.
Forty years ago.
Did you and your military Brothers were released from a Vietnamese prison you don't make.
Much of that kind of stuff yourselves.
Man -- man what you went through then.
I couldn't believe it's been forty years -- Feel.
I feel like I've -- most fortunate -- that I've ever heard I went through such a great deal experiences and then.
I've been able to serve the country.
Have nonstop since in the nominee of the Republican Party.
You know it always intrigues me a little bit deal when they say that McCain is angrier at what.
I get angry when I see injustice and I get angry when I see things like this court that I hope we're gonna talk about but.
I am so happy to be in the arena and I'm so happy to be able to -- I can't tell you how grateful I am -- Been able to.
Serve this country and maybe not -- place the best but I sure have tried and enjoyed every minute.
And you're very modest because when I get angry it's usually because -- out of banana cream -- but I digress I had senator.
This whole issue.
It relates to something I want to bring up with you first and foremost your service of the country the fortieth anniversary coming out of what had to be six plus years living hell.
And and and you were hold on a carpet.
Or criticizing Rand Paul.
And and this is filibuster over -- of the president's policy on grounds.
And and by extension senator cruise with -- global also be chatting.
All the -- you like.
The clueless old man.
What what did you think of.
Well first of I.
In an interview I said that senator -- and send -- crews were whacko birds that was.
Inappropriate and I apologize to them for saying that because I respect them both I respect what they stand for what they believe him.
They both made an impact already here in the United States senate.
Senator Paul in particular and senator have crews are also and others.
Constitute what I believe is going to be an ongoing debate.
In this country.
In in the Republican Party in particular about the role of the United States in the world.
And that debate has been going on since the end of World War I.
Much less in -- prior to World War II -- you know and before.
And after the Vietnam War so it's been going on and that debate I would respect their views.
But I believe we live in a very very dangerous world and I think this sequestration.
Is outrageous.
Commandant of the Marine Corps just said that half of these units will not be deployed able.
Well this well -- centrifuges are spending in Tehran and -- north Koreans are threatening us with nuclear weapons not to mention.
All of the other things.
So.
And other threats to our national security so.
Willingham saying senator that these gentlemen the more to the point.
Senator Rand Paul don't appreciate these threats and they take the position that.
I think they have a different through a very different view and I have seen senator Paul articulate that and senator -- -- it.
Lesser degree they believe as people have to give throughout the history of our country there was that -- wing of our party insurer and the Eisenhower wing in -- but they see me thanks.
-- your heart of an idea of an old -- -- and I just going to respond duke.
What senator Rand -- it said it zee -- could maybe it you can weigh in on this the -- -- The GOP -- old.
Has grown stale.
And moss covered.
Okay.
I don't think we need to name any names.
They gotta.
I gotta get that moss.
And -- everybody's entitled to their views.
I'm proud to have served.
In the house and the senate and under who I think is -- greatest president of the twentieth century and maybe.
Ranks amongst the best ever and that is while Reagan Ronald Reagan believed in peace through strength.
Ronald Reagan restored America.
And -- we were deteriorating very badly as you know the recent movie -- told us about.
People held hostage in that embassy in Tehran we were weak throughout the world.
That he believed in peace through strength and I think.
We should look at his lessons as to how we rebuild the military not tear down the military.
To meet the challenges.
I would argue -- that since the end of the Cold War we are probably -- greater danger.
Some kind of conflict somewhere in the world and we have been since then and it's gonna require -- military that's good and I'd like to mention one other thing.
I've talked a lot of military leaders in the last few weeks.
And you know they're telling me that young people.
Are making a decision as to whether they want to stay in the military or not.
And they're very sick and tired of this kind of behavior that we're engaged in here in Washington and we're in danger of losing some very very good people.
I do want to follow up a few wounds of the very quickly senator that sure -- -- were were praise for being a maverick when you took on the leaders of your party.
And now.
You're part of this prehistoric old guard that won't -- It just seems -- Life isn't fair -- that she and so.
The -- but the important thing to me.
Is to be part of that part of -- the in the arena and part of the debate and try to contribute to the future of the country and represent the people of Arizona.
And when you're in the arena.
As you know you're gonna take care of which you're gonna take -- and you're gonna make mistakes and I made my share.
But I'm so honored to have the ability to serve and that.
And the friendships that I have and by the way forty years ago those that I love most and still I have a great honor my life to serving with long ago and far away and people like.
But Dave Robinson rise -- -- Stockdale inspired us to be capable of things we never would have been capable and I still love them -- Senator.
Pleasure thanks Senator John McCain.
