It was a deadly explosion that happened during a training exercises as new information that we're getting on this had happened at an army ammunition depot.
In western Nevada and sadly.
Tragically seven US Marines lost their lives in what happened there at the Hawthorne.
Army depot which is -- about a 140 miles southeast of Reno -- -- -- and a lot more information coming in on that as we get it.

As we continue to look to this story that broke -- all just about an hour ago here.
The -- national security correspondent Jennifer Griffin who joins us now live from the Pentagon Jennifer what -- tell us about this.
Well Martha the Marines will only say that an explosion occurred during a live fire exercise.
Out at -- Hawthorne army depot in Nevada.
But there are local news reports suggesting that it was a sixteen millimeter mortar -- that exploded inside the casing and that three of those Marines were killed.

There are we're told eight others who are injured three of them seriously -- -- from local hospital reports.
Hawthorne is where the army disposes of it's ammunition in stores its ammunition there about 3000 buildings there it's -- 230 square mile.
Up facility they've been doing so since 1930 but we're told that the explosion did not come as a result of the ammunition that was stored them Martha what a tragedy this morning is their reaction yet from the Pentagon to these deaths.

Second marine expeditionary force major general Raymond C fox he issued the following statement from camp -- -- and he said quote we send our prayers and condolences to the families of Marines involved in this tragic incident.
We remain focused on insuring that they are supported through this difficult time we mourn their loss and is with heavy hearts we remember their courage and sacrifice.
Of course all of this -- the coming on the tenth anniversary of the Iraq War when the Pentagon is also warning.
