So you've heard a lot about this this week the Republican Party making a new effort to overhaul the GOP's.
Future after a tough election season of course that happened.
Four Republicans in November -- so let's get the advice from this man who has.
Seeing a lot in his career Andy -- served as White House chief of staff under president George W.
And he joins me now -- welcome back -- to have you with us again.
Good to be with him out there.
I average up until -- Republican Party is -- it got to wake up call an Election Day and attested.
Really reflect on what has worked in the past and what they have to do to reflect the realities of the future than changing demographics -- America.
He Republican Party has become an exclusive party used to be an inclusive party was the Party of Lincoln it was a party -- invited suffered inviting people to vote.
It has to get back to that we -- -- to recognize that the Republican Party is the party of small government and the government closest to the people governs best so that means.
We've got to demonstrate that we want to build a grassroots team of political leaders in the governmental leaders the bill become the the eight team and be able to compete on the national stage I think we can do that by looking at some -- our governors like Nikki Haley -- in South Carolina for example.
But it really it's it's a time for -- reflect on what it means to have values we have the party of values a lot of immigrants came to the country.
The United States because of the values -- the Republican Party is protected for -- long.
So we are the party of American values and -- also the party of a strong national defense and I think that's still very attractive you know we've got to stop being an exclusive party and being inclusive party and recognize that.
There's plenty of room in this Republican Party to reflect the values of the -- -- -- what it means to be an American.
And we've got to invite people -- to be part of the solution and we also have to allow those laboratories of democracy the states.
I've tried different policies before we impose and from the federal level.
-- obamacare debate would have been so much better if they had learned from the lessons.
-- bomber highest -- K that was practice in some states like my home state of Massachusetts it hasn't worked the way the voters of Massachusetts were told it would work.
And I don't think that President Obama learned from that lesson of the laboratory of democracy in Massachusetts that part of health care system and that hasn't lived up to expect.
Let me ask you -- investments in our chemistry thing about this because there's all of this discussion and -- -- -- lengthy report about reaching out to Hispanics reaching out to African Americans reaching out to some of the groups.
That when you look at it and that.
The Republican Party didn't do -- -- but but what I wonder really is that the issue of smaller government right.
And that so many people now receive you know some kind of -- some kind of piece of you know the government -- one -- way shape or form.
And -- what they've been convinced is that if that Jack -- to get smaller or are we were to cut the debt that it would be bad for them.
At what has not been translated perhaps for people who believe you know the way you -- Is is this issue of you know that that it would actually improve the economy that connection.
Has not been made in an articulate way perhaps by the GOP.
Well I don't like having a one size fits all policy across America I actually like the State's experiment with different ways to address the problems that they might have.
-- the -- high unemployment or whether it's.
A workforce that -- it is not well educated I like to see different solutions and let the states compete with ideas that make a difference.
Before we impose them as a one size at all from Washington DC.
I don't want to have a an America that is dependent on government I wanna have an America that does is.
And creative and willing to take risks and with risk come reward also come -- chance of failure.
I like to see that -- -- and that's what the Republican Party has been about.
We're -- party of core values were party that reflects that.
The central need of America to be American until -- are -- different country than any other country in the world other countries would like to be like us.
Stand up and be proud to be an American and demonstrate what it means to be part of local government get more people run the local office to run for state office and then.
Get on the national stage so we can learn about from.
Night -- cart thank you so much for being let us always good to see -- and I help.
