-- -- now I'm I'm kind of in the mood.

To talk science what do you think I was talking about.

Hi down.

In the mood to talk science so let's keep pleased Jeremy Kaplan our site tech editor -- the talks clients all they -- in fact during the commercial.

He gave me another topic even to talk about after we talk about this -- there's just so much to -- -- -- Things being discovered it means.

You nodding as I brought up that point that -- -- this kind of pie in the sky efforts -- the -- government ever being able to catch up with technology.

It's a challenge it's a real challenge technology moves -- clearly that Iraq to the billion innovators out there and it takes them so long to agree.

The only thing I -- -- -- -- it got people innovating of them all right here's something I wish they.

And -- -- because because this is really troubling fears that NASA.

Spot that the FBI thinks it's found this gentleman from China.

You've been working in the United States.

Has got his hands on a highly confidential military secrets and rocket technology from NASA laboratories.

Just I guess some doing what his day to day jobless how -- -- have access to that it's.

It's a really thorny issue and one that is deeply troubling we're gonna learn a lot more about it today it turns out that that NASA chief Charlie -- is is speaking on Capitol Hill today.

Ostensibly about budgetary concerns I think in reality what he's going to be talking about is is there a spy are there many spies even at NASA.

So what cropped up his.

Over the weekend the Chinese national was arrested at Dulles airport.

He was on -- -- don't claim to China hit a one way ticket to China he wasn't coming back.

And he was he didn't disclose to the FBI agents that picked him up but he had a whole slew technology devices on -- hard drives flash drives.

Computer laptops several computer laptops it sounds like.

If they pick them up however because it we believe.

-- he was taking confidential secrets from NASA from Langley and taking them back to China.

This is a really deeply troubling thing wolf who is that the chair of the commission -- on.

Is looking into this very and has been for a while now and there's a lot of evidence that there might be other.

Chinese nationals or other foreign nationals they're suggesting -- also working at NASA.

Real problem here is so what is the penalty.

So it sounds like espionage over there I mean we're.

Cautious about using words like that but that's that's a very serious conviction if if if it comes through so I'm the issue here is.

We -- we always joke oh that's not rocket science isn't rocket science that's because.

Things are -- fun things are like a rocket science is only a handful people that can actually do rocket science so would -- have been trying to do is collaborate with.

Other people in the world that are capable of it really basic question I mean you're you're such a nice guy you you say that the government's -- Keeping up a technology -- but -- in other words.

-- -- nice guy and then you say well if -- careful how we use the word espionage because it's it's kind of a tough work.

So I just want to put out if this guy actually did -- -- said he did.

That that would be espionage.

Right it seems pretty little at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in California in Pasadena say that they are.

The US about this because as you described it highly sensitive data -- this Lisa stuff was personal.

There that's I think by the that's about a different incidents to be honest I think -- a -- thought it was stolen.

So the the challenges that NASA is number good at keeping track of their technology that was the point that this is making better that they had all of these problems that it has investigative.

Only a fantastic at doing that science but they've been less.

Concerned with keeping a hand on and that's really what's been going on here but this particular incident I believe what's going on is this guy was working on.

Imaging.

Four for satellites and -- -- -- obviously some in NASA -- so this is that it incidents it is he going to take this information.

And given to China.

That they can build spy satellites based on the stuff that we've created what do you think the answers I think that's exactly what's going on that would be espionage clearly -- -- for.

-- -- There is that -- -- -- why does NASA have a problem keeping it secret some hands.

Oversight has been.

-- so there is also the reason okay because NASA wants to be more open about sharing techno why other people that are capable of doing it wanna talk to Russians there are a bunch of Russian leader of the floor she preferred to have all of these -- I'm guessing that it would be cheaper to have.

A bunch of people just kind of getting together and sharing their knowledge.

That it would be to keep everybody on the payroll find it I'm.

I don't know you said he's going to Capitol Hill -- NASA chief Charlie Bolden to talk about budgets.

Right he might be an issue that's the thing NASA budget has been -- they're always -- -- is but it's been -- you have a NASA gets like 1% less than 1% of -- look at my paycheck.

Well we're we're on -- and -- but for a good cause and some ways because as Republican leaders have pointed out sometimes you have to pay your bills.

-- now we just have to control the other end of it.
