Morning -- are you -- are looking good this Friday morning quarter past the hour I'm -- -- point in the Obama administration recently released.
More than 2000 illegal immigrants from detention centers blaming cuts from the sequester.
But what might be even more disturbing is that cases they aren't letting go what in particular we wanna talk about this morning -- from Germany.
They could be deported over home schooling -- children you heard it right folks.
Joining us now is Michael Farris chairman of the Home School Legal Defense Association who -- representing that -- Good morning to you Michael thanks for being with us here.
Good morning it's good to be with you -- tell -- -- a little bit about the story for folks at home who aren't aren't familiar with the case of family from Germany they wanted to home school their children.
And why did they even want to home school their kids in the very first place -- -- my -- Will they believe that the home schooling is the best education to be able to give their religious and philosophical and academic.
Combination that they wanted for their kids and in Germany that's illegal them all home schooling is banned.
But the family proceeded anyway and you -- thought that there -- stand up for their human rights.
Religious freedom and parental rights in the German government are prosecuted them they were heavy fines imposed.
Ultimately the police came in -- Armed police to take the children away and taken to the public schools and after a series of those kinds of events the families fled.
Came in this country and apply for political asylum in 2008.
There evangelical Christians they had six kids in -- -- we -- in that picture they have a beautiful baby that is has just arrived.
An intimate and what's the latest with with all this right now I mean and they and their mind is just got to be reeling.
When they're trying to -- -- to just we just stay where they are.
If you would think that they will would have expected the United States to follow its traditions of me after all the pilgrims came to this country.
For the protection of the religious liberty and also the protection of their children they left Holland because they were concerned about.
That societies influence on their children.
And I'm just Claudio Obama administration wasn't sitting here for the pilgrims -- to turn them back.
I believe that's the religious freedom claims his family's making forward.
Political asylum in this country should be granted but the Obama administration's view is an individual liberty is not a valid basis for political -- and client.
And my home -- Michael they're trying to do -- the right way.
Right they are -- mean they're they're trying to go about this it didn't go through the the legal what legal hoops and and and it got there all the red tape and and all of that but they're running into some issues you have a hearing coming up a month and a day away.
How are you preparing for that well.
It like any oral argument -- in an appellate court you practice -- I.
Argued a lot of appellate cases and so.
I'm looking forward to -- I think we have a very good chance the first trial judge ruled for the family they said this indeed was a case of religious persecution.
The Obama administration appealed.
They won the second round we're appealing on the third round to the six Circuit Court of Appeals.
Michael that you blame and that's.
It's really the attorney general the United States is ultimately responsible it's done in his name he makes the final decision in this.
And I can't figure out any good reason why.
In the midst of do the controversy over eleven million illegal immigrants and the the release of the prisoners that you talked about.
At the top of the story.
I don't get why they wanted to deport his one German -- and we just doesn't make any sense I do pretty -- -- a legal analysis cycle analysis not so much.
And -- what's the family -- -- -- they juvenile that's.
Ultimately they had their belief is grounded in god and is so there their hope is in god and you know I think that they're hoping that they give the court system's gonna get it right.
And I -- I share that hope -- and I I think we have a good case I think we have a good chance before the sixth circuit and so.
You know we're going forward -- you with faith believing that is gonna turn out okay.
Michael we do wish you well on our Mike is as well -- plenty of thank you very much.
