And welcome to FOX News Sunday panel plus -- Newt Gingrich Evan -- Jennifer Rubin and Juan Williams we're gonna continue our discussion.
Of the president's trip to committees because there is a big area that we didn't discuss the not a -- watt was discussed and what progress may or may not have been made.
In the US and Israel taking on Iran and its continuing nuclear program.
Speaker Gingrich and it seemed to me that in their joint news conference that the president in -- more explicit way than he ever had before.
Gave the green light prime minister Netanyahu and and facts that -- every leader has to decide what's in his own best interest when it comes to defending his country.
Dot do you think that made a qualitative difference in the US Israeli position on Iraq.
I doubt it is I don't think Iranians believe.
And -- and -- -- serve as a practical matter.
What and is really strangling the Israelis and the Americans.
Are clearly using cyber warfare clearly doing a variety of things to slow down the Iranian nuclear program.
But if if you're sitting in Tehran and in your Khamenei York his senior advisors.
Yeah -- very there's there's no practical Israeli strike when.
State the Iranians studied very carefully what we doing with the Israelis do and they have located much of their nuclear program surrounded by people.
So that's very tricky.
How you're gonna win -- make any substantial difference to their capabilities by by a so called surgical strikes.
You don't kill a lot of people if you try to do that -- I can't quite imagine.
What the Israeli that you always have to ask question and then what.
And I can't quite imagine what they at the end of the war -- How they then say okay this is why the world's better after an Israeli strike so -- and you feel the same way about an American strike.
I think I think the only practical goal long -- is to replace the regime.
I think that is if you if your goal is doing there and try to bomb their facilities first all the world -- -- to stand for very long.
-- -- meaning that these these are very serious people who has seen themselves -- -- -- war with us is 1970 -- -- I know he's got me three questions but I'm fascinated but are you when you say replace a British senior sort of not suggesting we invade Iran and -- but I think we should apply every method.
Of economic and diplomatic and and in fact they supported me and -- lots of things you can do as we did against the Soviet empire.
Which was -- large parts of Iranian population do not like this dictatorship they -- virtually no support from the west.
Very different from what we tried to do in places like Poland and elsewhere.
The real question here that we have to answer probably the next twelve months is is the Iranian regime in normal nation state that is capable of being -- -- Or is it a radical theocracy that might.
Misuse -- killer weapons with regard in the State of Israel or.
Gulf states their ally to us that's the fork in the road.
The trouble that we have I agree with -- in the long run regime -- -- where -- got to get the problem is they're likely to achieve a nuclear capability before the regime is even close to being toppled so we have to decide what we're gonna do about it.
As a practical matter the Israelis -- launch a one off strike but that's not really gonna get the job done you have to be a dedicated to re bombing them.
-- got to police -- that they can't rebuild their capability.
You have to deal the collateral damage -- -- and all of that.
The Israelis and us that we would have to act together we would be blamed by the Iranians even if we claim we weren't involved so that's the decision we have to make Chris can they be deterred.
Or not and frankly the Israelis might have a different answer that than than we do.
Well about five people in the world of them unfortunately at this table know exactly what the Israeli capabilities -- You have Ford -- which is built inside a mountain.
You have other facilities that are.
You have -- facility that.
Transfers the enriched uranium into gash a state that's a very exposed you can break the link there are lots of things that the Israelis could -- And I agree -- -- and in.
Dispense with -- nuclear infrastructure forever but to a three years might give us some breathing and -- had to really get going on in -- support for equipment.
The great tragedy -- this administration was that they had aperture in June of 2000 and we had the green revolution.
They could have in a very forceful way stepped up to the plate and lend assistance diplomatic economic intelligence and they didn't that was a critical -- But what about the argument senator by -- that if the Israelis are gonna do it.
Maybe we should get involved anyway because of the fact that we're going to be seen as being -- -- -- absolutely I think it would be tragic the United States to outsource -- our status as the world's superpower to Israel.
Oh goodness knows Israel has been -- election Israel shall the burden -- -- and innocent Heidi for the entire out west.
So I think both militarily we do have superior capabilities.
And from the standpoint of the United States how American -- is going to feel if the United States recognizing that there's a threat from Iran says.
Just like Israelis take care quickly before -- turned one Chris there's one other point that support here are our allies in the gulf.
Are desperate to not have the Israelis be the face of any action against -- -- -- audience because then that sets off a whole different dynamic on their street if it's the west in general in the US particularly in the effort.
That's a little bit different to Shia -- thing.
And we -- from the WikiLeaks cables that people have been passed down we have the Saudia.
Minister who is telling -- -- cut off the head of the -- you go right to -- and -- -- frustrated with us as the Israeli -- with these new guys it's hard to get a word -- -- -- -- I just sit here look at -- that's a good show but I can't.
I do think this goes back to work there as speaker Gingrich are talking about earlier that there are lots of interest in the Middle East who want Iran -- -- it.
Because not only on a sectarian basis went on a state based with the threat to them so that's their interest I think that gives us someone.
To negotiate in terms of Israel but.
In speaking about Iran specifically I think that that the message the president delivered this week.
One that Bibi Netanyahu was quite.
Scrappy and real reiterating -- that the president said Israel has the right to defend itself.
And that -- is going to stand with -- so what this means I think is in terms of timing.
Does it feel like you know what we can we have to act quickly because we don't know where the United States will be on this and somehow an Obama administration would -- than -- -- -- prior administration the Bush Administration specific to the contrary now I think the program becomes the US relationship with Israel.
How much does Israel share with.
The Obama administration.
Becoming convinced that they must act now.
And why are they convinced that they will act now I think this -- up.
-- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- It's an audience and I don't and if it's not a word that the Blogosphere -- -- -- a lot.
There's good intelligence sharing between Israel and the US when it comes to Iran's new killer capability Chris it's pretty seamless the challenges there may be different interpretations to exactly what the timeline.
Based on that -- Yeah it was interesting because the president in his and it interview with the Israeli television talked about a year until they got a weapon and Netanyahu was at pains to say yes -- they and Arizona community.
Where they have all of the parts for it.
And that's the part that we wouldn't really be able to South America what they're doing.
And that's the critical point you gotta get is really nice things on the same page because you're gonna have to act together and that you -- this is gonna be blamed anyway.
All right we -- leave it there thank you -- check in with us throughout the -- let us know what you think.
About the situation bed the threat from Iran and how well and how best it can be handled.
But from -- Monday edition of Wallace and -- which you can find right here at FOX News Sunday dot com.
We'll see back here next.
