Welcome back to Hannity it's holy week and just in time for Easter -- recently sat down.
Went bestselling author Stephen Mansfield the talk about a topic he's been researching for decades the death of Jesus Christ.
Mansfield new book killing -- -- the unknown conspiracy behind the world's most notorious execution is due to hit bookstores in May take a look.
And the author now.
Killing Jesus Stephen Mansfield is back on the steal column -- program.
-- always going to be with you I would these are upon us.
You win the thing that I take away from -- -- more than anything else this is we read about religious corruption.
On and there was a lot of that in that day of and political corruption and there was a lot of it -- that day.
Boy does it sound as familiar as what goes on today.
Really struck me.
You know history is always a guy the president for -- exact reason human nature doesn't really change and as I sometimes jokingly say yeah there was sort of a sopranos type of family.
That was sort of ruling the temple a ruling priesthood at that time -- -- Fossum.
And and his handling.
And and it sounds very much like what's going on the news today so I think that's the benefit of studying these things and paying attention to the past particularly biblical history.
It's like I think you said in the introduction about the smoke filled rooms.
You know that they conspiring to actually kill Jesus that took place here.
And these were you know it would we look back that historically through the Bible describes the Ferris sees.
Those that didn't like the fact that he was popular and that he expose them for not doing their jobs.
Well and that's the subject we often don't get too we Christians certainly believe Jesus died for our -- and we certainly believe he died because he was.
They're sort of challenging some precious doctrines of the -- about time but you know he was also exposing corruption when he went storming into the temple courts.
And drove the money changers out that wasn't just him you know having a -- at a given moment.
He was challenging a sort of -- -- the kid that had been taking over the temple and and using it for its own -- and and and that that was a clear signal he did at the beginning of his ministry.
And he did it at the end of his public ministry.
And that's signaled to the -- religious leaders and all -- the more but -- that small band across political leaders and religious leaders that.
You know he was he was challenging their hold on things and that's that's part of the story to.
You talk about something else happening at the time when Jesus entered Jerusalem and obviously we know it from Palm Sunday.
-- say there's something else going on.
That most people don't know about.
It's it's really understand -- as Jesus entered Jerusalem on that first day of the week and of course we remember this on Palm Sunday.
You know he was celebrated as he entered into the city and and he spoke -- some pause for a moment and sort of prophesied -- what's what's.
Began to weep over Jerusalem but at the exact moment that what's happening as he was coming in from the east coming in from the west responses pilot.
It was tradition for the governor of -- To come in and make a procession -- kind of a show of strength.
Because the Romans were -- and intimidated by the 145000.
Jews that who would.
Flood into Jerusalem passover.
So it was tradition and it was but -- was literally surgical tradition but also sort of a military statement.
For pilot to lead his troops or big portion of his troops in the gates on the western side -- Jesus chose that moment.
To come in the gates from the eastern side and so he was so he was sort of declaring war perhaps the challenge of two kingdoms and I think that's a significant part of Palm Sunday and the whole week that -- also.
When you when you guys you writing this book killing Jesus they explained to me.
Is there anything that you discovered his view a -- of written about the -- of President Bush and Pope Benedict didn't and Barack Obama and then do you read a lot of books and the faces what your best known for in issues of faith and christianity.
Is there anything investigating this book.
That you didn't know before.
I that if -- discovered as I did the research.
How really there was a very small group.
Of Jewish leaders who were corrupt.
-- who were trying to control the -- trade.
And who conspired to betray Jesus the idea that the Jews.
You know as a whole.
Crucified Jesus so to speak or that somehow they should be held accountable that's one of the great -- of history.
And so I don't think we'll -- I bet two million -- very.
Clear though is it was those rabbis those in power.
But it was a Jewish people that -- following Christ Christ himself being Jewish.
Yes he was very popular fact that small corrupt group of religious leaders.
We're afraid of people afraid they would ride in his defense -- -- support of Jesus that's actually why they tried him overnight.
And we began to walk to the city streets the next day you know going to go golf the people were weeping and wailing so.
This alive -- anti Semitic lie was really came home to me again helps him all the group were really anti Jesus and has sort of -- that I was rentals and power to impose and yes it didn't end.
So the unknown conspiracy behind this system to look at you sub title is if you are sum -- up.
The idea no conspiracy is that that the small group of corrupt religious leaders have been hunting for Jesus almost from the beginning.
Not only that they try to kill him of course in the early days -- when he was two years old Leo we know the story of the slaughter of innocents but.
All throughout his life if you look at the new testament they they began to conspire to kill and they heard this teaching in the -- council together as to how to kill him.
So it was a conspiracy that they carried over to his entire life -- his entire public ministry admitted.
Came together in those events we were just talking about I think it's -- it's more of a conspiracy than just the last minute sort of explosion in Jerusalem during passover.
Kind of book as we got a right here is killing Jesus Stephen Mansfield is the author great investigative reporter and Stephen -- book.
And -- we really appreciate -- Willis thank you always great Sean thank you.
