Right now the US ramping up its offenses in the Pacific in response of the dangerous threats coming out of North Korea.
How the Pentagon sending in advance missile defense system.
To the Pacific island of Guam two years ahead of schedule.
John Bolton former bastion of the UN back with -- Fox News contributors are good morning to you.
I've got a lot to go through here but yesterday you said the north Koreans even for them are acting outside their normal.
Playbook -- -- mean by that.
Well I think their rhetoric is much more belligerent they've used up all the phrases they've used before they've gone beyond that they've taken a number of steps.
Cutting off hotlines to South Korea stopping South Korean employees from coming to the case -- industrial park now.
Moving missiles around inside North Korea.
All of which show that something else is going on here -- not that I think there's a threat to the United States at this point I don't think they're capable of that.
But it but it said it's a complicated neighborhood over there got South Korea and Japan also concerned our troops in both countries and on Guam.
So -- given the nature of this regime which is not rational and our terms it it's definitely worth being concerned about -- three more headlines here -- -- -- the North Korean Army apparently said this today.
The moment of explosion is approaching fast.
-- interpret that.
Well I think this is an example of rhetoric that's beyond their normal playbook and and whether there.
Trying to provoke something whether they're trying to make a point all of this is very hard due to read in a regime that's just not transparent the say the least.
And doesn't think along the same lines we do what the north Koreans are trying to get from the it.
Is acknowledgment that they are a nuclear weapons state they see a week White House a week president they think they can push him into it this is the kind of environment.
Where miscalculation can take place on their side -- on our side let me show our viewers bit of the area here north and South Korea we've talked about this for a while obvious to refresh the geography.
It would appear that Japan -- -- just based on its location.
Would be under a much greater threat if it were to launch some sort of missile I think you'd agree with that.
ambassador Guam is down here but still well within the target range there's a report that North Korea could launch a mobile ballistic missile in the coming days or weeks that came out about ninety minutes ago what does that.
Well I think -- shows that the north Koreans are thinking about had it.
South Korea Japan and the United States and they don't have to drop a missile on Guam what if they just -- one near Guam.
Fifteen years ago they put a typo Dong ballistic missile into the Pacific east of Japan which obviously was clear to everybody in Japan meant they could put one somewhere on the islands themselves.
So I don't think they're foolish enough actually to attack Tokyo.
But how about if they put a missile a hundred miles to the east of Tokyo that this is the kind of thinking.
That they're going through and one reason we need these missile defenses is there accuracy in North Korea isn't that great so.
They may -- east of Tokyo and may miss and hit Tokyo that's why this is a troubling situation where you're arguing is that even to launch one even if it lands in the -- somewhere.
Would be enough to provoke.
Or perhaps a reaction from months.
Well or from South Korea or even Japan let's not forget we're not the only player on our side of the equation and in the past couple of years the north Koreans have sunk a South Korean Corvette -- -- innocent South Korean civilians in neither case.
-- South Korea retaliate and we've got a new president they're now public opinion polls show the South Koreans are not happy about these kinds of threats.
And we we ourselves and I think get correctly have put the South Koreans more forward in terms of determining what a military response would be to this kind of property interests and so I think it's a mistake to think all -- -- out there -- we have sent what the B two stealth bomber flew about a week ago we believe it's back in the state of Missouri now.
You have the -- F 22 fighters that were deployed to this military exercises South Korea.
The USS McCain which is the destroyer the Decatur which is the destroyer also.
What do you think of our reaction.
Hearings I think it's basically -- appropriate I think you need to show some strength I think the administration has not been strong enough to be sure and yet we had news reports today.
That the administration thinks well maybe it was too strong it's gonna dial it back a little bit.
The other maybe one American response worse than a week response and that's -- hesitant inconsistent.
Contradictory response and I'm afraid that's what were beginning to get from the White House.
That will simply encourage the north Koreans one more thing and I've got about thirty seconds for this I mention the missile defense system being deployed in Guam two years ahead of schedule.
Is this administration now rethinking its whole strategy.
On missile defense when you go back four years when.
The system in Poland was basically ended.
Well I wish it were true it should be true I don't think it is true they fundamentally don't believe in national missile defense because they think it's destabilizing but it's a good opportunity to have a debate in congress.
-- why we needed.
Thank you jumble and mr.
